  1. I’ve really soured on remasters and remakes lately, I don’t have a strong aversion to them, but lately I just feel like something is missing. Past tear or two, I’ve enjoyed enjoy playing the originals - usually on original hardware - more than the next-gen port or remaster. If you subscribe to the ‘video games are art’ theory, it seems like something is missing if the original design team isn’t involved. Inevitably, something gets changed, either because of differing design choices, the original source code being lost, etc. I don’t have anything against remasters, but, for me, I enjoy playing the original BioShock on a pc or my X360 a lot more than I enjoy playing the remaster. But it’s very much a ymmv thing, so… I do appreciate that Series X let’s me play the last-gen versions of a lot of my favorite games - RDR, BioShock, Ninja Gaiden, Halo - with better technical performance. Best of both worlds. The original design choices coupled with shorter loading times, more stable frame rates, better resolution, etc. But I also have a working og Xbox and a couple X360’s with about 4gb of my favorite games installed on usb drives, ready to go if i want to play Halo 3 on the original hardware,
  2. I just spent 10 min or so trying to embed a link. Tried multiple browsers. None of them worked. I think I’ve finally hit my tipping point for now, lol. Effort is definitely outweighing gains. Maybe I’m come back in a few months or and see if some of this has been fixed. If not, well, it’s been fun. Ish.
  3. Same. I couldn’t’ care less what the audience scores are. Don’t trust them at all. The backlash against professional critics - and professionals in general - is kinda funny given that an awful lot of people want to tell me how many stars they give a book or movie or post formal reviews. In general, we’ve become a society of skeptics who think we know better than people who study these things for a living. I had a coworker self-diagnose her medical issue then tell me then she wasn’t going to a doctor because “what would a doctor be able to tell me about my health? .” I had no idea the M in MBA stood for medicine. I need to recheck my diploma. I may be qualified to hang out a shingle and didn’t know it.
  4. In hindsight, Boston should have punished Udoka by letting him coach the Nets.
  5. Ime Udoka? Boston removed the interim tag from Mazzulla’s job title and gave him a new contract, so Udoka is going to be job hunting. Not sure what the rest of the league thinks of him, but he’s potentially a splashy hire. I still don’t believe he was fired just because of a HR infraction. There were hints that the relationship wasn’t quite consensual or that he stalked her afterwards or something, but that talk died down awfully quickly, I heard a rumor he slept with the owner’s wife. I’m skeptical but it would explain a lot.
  6. Yeah, that last part makes me wonder if he decided it was time to leave, or if he lost a power struggle. I’m not basing that on anything except my general cynicism. I don’t watch the show or hear anything about the show. I’m not even certain I’d recognize Ryan Seacrest if he came to my door.
  7. During his short feud with Jungle Boy, he was doing power moves like the chokeslam with his other hand/arm.
  8. I watched NXT off and on while Corbin was there. Apparently I wasn’t paying much attention. The internet tells me Corbin’s history with McAfee was referenced their feud. I must not have been paying attention then either. I do other stuff while wrestling is on and have gotten good at tuning out the background noise to focus on emails or Amazon or whatever.
  9. I didn’t know Corbin briefly played pro football until just now. You’d think the company would at least mention that (they may well have, but I either missed it or was tuned out if they did). Where’s Jim Ross when you need him. His Wikipedia entry makes his background sound fairly interesting.
  10. Barnes and Noble is running a buy one, get one free sale on Image this month, so I am loading up on Image. Almost compete run of Invincible arrived last week. Complete Black Science and Wicked + Divine scheduled to be delivered today. Think the sale runs to end of the month, so I’ll probably grab Black Magick and East of West next week. Finished up Azzarello’s 100 Bullets over the weekend. Probably will start Black Science tonight or tomorrow.
  11. I never understood why the Raiders tried to trade him in the first place. On the face of it, it makes no sense for either party. Trades can’t be finalized for a couple days yet, right? So the Raiders ran the risk of having another team verbally agree to a trade, keeping Carr on the roster and having the $40 mil become guaranteed, then seeing the other team back out a few days later when it came time to sign the paperwork and make the trade official. Granted, teams don’t bowl out of trades that often, but it has happened. Trade only made sense for Carr if he thought there wasn’t a market for him and he’d end up signing for a lot less than $40 mil. That doesn’t seem to be the case. I kinda want Rodgers to step out of whatever cave he’s in for his darkness retreat and find out the Packers decided not to wait and traded him. Though other GMs are presumably too smart to trade for him without some assurance he’d actually play for them instead of retiring. I’m a fan of Rodgers the player, but the will he-won’t he drama has worn thin, as has the whole thing with the psychedelics and the darkness cleanses and whatever else. As someone else said, most qbs would get torn to shreds if they talked about shrooms and pilgrimages to the desert while their play was declining. I don’t even think it’s a race thing. What would we say of Jimmy G or Kirk Cousins announced they were going to go sit in the desert to do some shrooms and commune with crystals? Rodger strikes me as a shallow guy, so his counterculture deep thinker routine makes me laugh.
  12. Omos just standing there while almost every other person in the shot jumps up and down and does the fist pump reminds me of the time the roster tired to do Kofi’s fake Jamaican entrance routine. Cena just waved his hands a few times in a bad pantomime of Kofi then gave the camera a shrug and a “I dunno what the heck I’m supposed to do” look. Also, as much as I appreciate Corbin giving me another reason to root against Duke, my brother and wife went to UNC so I don’t need the help.
  13. Planning to go this weekend with the wife and some friends. A couple of us were talking last night that maybe we should go to something else since Quantumania is getting bad reviews. The consensus was “nah, this is fine”. All we really want out of it is some special expensive-looking fx and elaborate stunts. Superhero movies rarely work for me when I watch the, at home, but they are well-suited for the crowded movie theater experience.
  14. I’m sure I’ll regret asking, but how is a comment about logos “ableist”. I am confused. to be honest, I do not consider those logos to be three separate logos.
  15. I’m not really into Waller or the angle, but, yeah, I’m curious despite myself. It feels like they’re building to Shawn-Grayson but that’s probably out of the question, so I dunno what the payoff is going to be. Ok show, but I’m not really into NXT right now aside from the NXT UK crew. Pretty Deadly steal every segment they’re in and I’ll definitely show up for Dragunov, McDonagh and Bates. I think I’ll enjoy Bron on the main roster but he really does just seem to be treading water here. Jinder is probably not the right guy to lead Bron to better matches. The Briggs-Jensen-Henley-James stuff is so silly it’s growing on me just a little. It in no way needed as much time as it’s gotten already though. Hopefully Jensen finally loses his virginity at the next PLE and they move on. i think Jacy and Gigi both flounder without Toxic Attraction.
  16. Meltzer says it could be Grimes, but he’s also reported the Bo Dallas rumor.
  17. If they want Jerry Jones to laugh at them…..
  18. Well, as long as you’re being adult about it….. i’m kidding. I’m tired of giving toxic fans a pass. I agree that Wells isn’t much of a writer. Which is why I am not reading it. My suggestion would be to read something else if you hate it that much. It’s a comic book about a fictional character. If you want to read Spider-Man, there are several decades worth of material by dozens of writers who have better takes on the character than Zeb Wells. For that matter, Marvel changes up creative teams fairly frequently, so odds are good Wells will be off the book soon. You could just wait him out, Putting Wells name on the cover of a book is usually enough to convince me not to buy it, but I’m guessing he is a decent-enough guy. Lobbing f-bombs and hatred his way because you don’t like his writing is fairly infantile, imo. But, hey, you have your reasons. In fact, I’ll be surprised if you don’t write a paragraph or two explaining why it’s really ok to hate a dude and probably his wife and kids because you don’t like the latest plot twist.
  19. I got up hung over one Saturday in September and threw up on everything I could find. My car, a mailbox, the sidewalk, a water fountain. Finally staggered into a park and barfed into the river. Kinda wish I had chosen a spot that wasn’t a few yards from a family reunion, but you know what they say about beggars and choosers. That was September 18, 1991. I remember the date because that was the date my fiancée decided she was calling off our wedding even though the ceremony was only three weeks away. It was also the date I realized I was full of shit and attended my first AA meeting. Good times, lol. i drank way too much gin back then, but really it would take less time to list the adult beverages I wasn’t overindulging in college than the ones I was. edit: I should mention thwt the wedding was postponed, not canceled. We’ll celebrate our 31st anniversary in June.
  20. A lot of us have suspected for years that Dave is actually a robot. He does a pretty convincing impression of a normal human being, but it’s not flawless.
  21. Seems like more chit-chat at work about the halftime show than the game itself. That’s good, I guess, if you’re young and hip. I think it’s just reminding the rest of us that we’re closer to getting a tap on the shoulder from the Grim Reaper than we’d like to think.
  22. Is that Eddie Edwards with the Mohawk (2nd poster, middle row, left side) or did Shawn Spears end up in TNA?
  23. Yeah, I’m probably going to buy PSVR fairly soon after launch unless there are shortages. I don’t enjoy VR and am not at all convinced it’s a good way to spend money, but I suspect the Horizon game will be enough to sell me. I may wait until they actually announce the often rumored but still unconfirmed Half-Life: Alyx port.
  24. On the replays it looks like Bradberry interferes with Smith-Schuster twice. It looks like he definitely grabs JuJu’s jersey when the play begins, as juJu crosses the line of scrimmage. Then JuJu runs sideways to his left a few yards and Bradberry puts a hand on his back as Schuster-Smith starts to run downfield. A lot of people are singling out the second contact and not replaying the first contact a second or two earlier. Bradberry admitted he grabbed Smith-Schuster’s jersey. He was hoping the refs wouldn’t call it. Personally, I”m not in favor of letting them play. If it’s a foul, you’re within your rights to call it. Doesn’t matter what the score is, doesn’t matter how much time is left in the game, doesn’t matter if you didn’t call it a foul earlier. I I hate to see games turn on minor fouls too, but it’s like arguing that I didn’t deserve a speeding ticket because I sped through the same area and passed the same cop yesterday too and he didn’t write me a ticket then. And, honestly, if you”’re going to foul a guy in that instance, with the game on the line and almost no time on the clock, you need to be smarter than that. I’m not very sympathetic to a dude that holds on a deciding play of the game but thinks the ref may not feel like calling it. Why wouldn’t you call “ticky-tac” fouls on a play that important? Deciding to swallow your whistle is another way of deciding the game. Also, I played golf with Don Nehlen a few times after he retired and once asked him about a game WVU lost in the last minute on a debatable call. His attitude was that teams have 59 mins to build a lead and, if you don’t want to lose a game on a bad call at the buzzer, you should probably do enough in those 59 min to make sure the call can’t hurt you. That advice works for me. That said, it certainly looks like Mahomes just overthrew the ball so I am not at all certain it was catchable to begin with. Not certain it wasn’t catchable though.
