Fuck, I forgot to comment on the completely arbitrary star rating system. There's no rhyme or reason to it. Again, I like and appreciate it because it's fucking hilarious for how weird the star ratings are. WWE 2K has done star ratings pretty well for awhile now so Yukes should have an idea for how that stuff would work, but in this it's just a bizarre mess. I had a tag match go over 10 minutes with a ton of reversals, including Punk reversing my finisher and then hitting me with the GTS only for Sting to break up the pin. It was probably the most exciting match I've had. 2 stars. Next match lasted 3 minutes with me just spamming strikes and hitting a few moves to get up to a special. 3 1/2 stars. Ok then, lol.

I think I figured it out. The star ratings seem less to be about how entertaining/good the match was and more how dominant you were at the game or your performance in beating someone up. So a quick squash with a variety of rapid moves would get a higher rating than a epic long match.

Again, I could be very wrong. But that’s what I’m picking up on.

  2. It’s pretty smart of them to make each PPV cycle into chapter blocks. I assume with future updates they’ll be able add more blocks/ storylines you can encounter. Kind of like how games like Fall Guys work with adding content each season. Right now they have blocks A, B, C. Maybe they’ll add like an D, E, F, etc.

👍 I’m having fun so far.

  3. Still on my Kingston play through. After beating Brodie for the TNT title, Tony Khan said a sponsor wanted to pay for me and a friends dinner. Took Mox on a man date. Anna Jay didn’t like that. Mox turned on me (no luggage scene like everyone else though) and then Anna Powerbombed me through a table. PPV handicap match. I like that our paths are slightly different.

    Who has it on Switch?

  4. Very fun. I’m happy to say as Eddie Kingston I won the Casino Battle Royal, only to lose to Jericho in true Kingston heartbreak fashion. Playing on normal still, so not a good brag. @Craig H is accurate in how weird RTE is. Inserting Kingston into these scenarios is funny. It is probably more fitting for a CAW. Lol Avocado toast. Lol planes. Good fun so far. Hopefully future patches provide exciting new scenarios. Debating on having Kingston join the Dark Order or not.

The CAW options are currently bad. But “The Octopus” is a usable ring name. So A+.

Not having tornado tags is silly. But I’m playing by myself and I’ll likely do 1v1 or wild 4ways.

I’ve played as Penta, Dax, Danielson, Mox, and Kingston so far. I have a lot more to discover. The Deathmatch was a lot of fun.

I like the punch and kick being separated. It gives more strike options. I often forget to kick though. But a chop combo ending in a kick is pretty sweet. I love the signature and finisher being different. Once you get good with characters it’ll be fun to use your signature to set up your finisher. So far the buttons haven’t been difficult. I love to taunt.

I feel the arcade feel gives it enough of a Street Fighter or atelier vibe in that intergender matches are not weird.

I’m excited to try online modes. I don’t do the mini games but maybe in the future.

Overall, I’d say the game isn’t worth its price point, but sadly everything I consider overpriced. This will replace nightly scrolling of TikTok. So for me, it’s worth it as a fan of this genre. I’m hoping for big future updates that we don’t have to pay for.

If Human Tornado didn't get that serious knee injury,  you gotta think he'd be one of the top guys in AEW or atleast in a big non inring position there like Excalibur. He was such a big name in the So Cal indies that he would been a part of the foundation of AEW. I could also have seen him in NXT in the mid 2010s when they were picking up Indy talent left and right

Larry Sweeney vs Orange Cassidy would have been beautiful.

And to me last night cemented Kenny as being the true Best In The World (sorry @The Natural but I’d take any of Kenny’s Okada matches over the main event, and I’m not sure Bryan could match the two Ospreay matches from this year) on a night that featured two others who make that claim. I think it’s a safe bet Ospreay agrees as I see in his tweet today he mentioned everyone in the company being “All Elite” but Kenny is “Above Elite”.

Although not a perfect analogy, but a fun parallel I like to use is Bryan Danielson or Kenny Omega is the modern Bret Hart or Shawn Michaels.

Thankfully (to my knowledge) there isn’t the same bad blood.

A lot of the Trio matches were fun but so much blends together in my memory.

I'm always open for another wager but I don't see anything quite tumultuous enough to bet on right now.

And @Octopus, I'm planning on writing up the thing for Weds night barring disaster and I'm really excited to pick at the meat of a match with a shoot injury that was worked like a worked during a performance where he also worked a shoot injury and the surrealism of all of that.

Honestly, I’m still thinking on the match a day later. I’m filing this under the Mox v Punk squash for odd retroactive building of enjoyment. What a fun weird match.

  9. It’s funny, in a GWE discussion I would both take a point away and give a point to Danielson from this performance.

For a MOTN likely Omega v Osprey. Ideological differences maybe stirring up in my belly with mixed feelings, but I was wiggling my legs like crazy. Very exciting stuff. It won’t be my MOTY but I can’t deny my wiggles.

Only caught the main so far. I thought it was an amazing Danielson performance and the story of Danielson running up the points and Okada staying in it by targeting the neck was very good. Danielson pulled out a bunch of tricks, including going along with the Yes Chants for the first time since arriving in AEW (which in my mind is a "trick") but was down to one arm limiting his ability to put Okada away, especially after two knees didn't do the trick. The adaptability was awesome. And then post match you find out he was actually hurt and just using his ingenuity and resolve to both tough it out and smart it through by coming up with believable variations that he could actually accomplish. It was 10th level chess. He was hurt, but made me think that he was just brilliantly feigning being hurt.

I loved so much about this match. A lot of it work and even the shift after the injury was interesting in retrospect to see how they changed things on the fly.

I feel it likely would be more enjoyable as a vacuum watch or surprisingly mid show. Granted, without the injury we would have seen the pace slowly rise and give it that big main event feel in the end. It was exciting seeing the slower pace be so captivating for a tired audience. If we didn’t get that injury, do we not get the realism of the seizure or even that seizure at all (idk, we’ve gotten it before)?

I think it was good and will likely be categorized as a Cactus Jack vs Sabu - Of Mice and Men match. Hopefully they play it back with Danielson returning the favor.

I’m now pretty convinced the seizure spot was on the fly considering it was right after the elbow drop.

Very likely a poor decision to buy time. Timeline wise. But very much Boy who cried Wolf because he’s done this before, but with the actual injury this time felt more real.

Until I sort this out, Danielson is in timeout.

Terry Funk is my GOAT. ALL HAIL GOAT FUNK!
