I finally get to bust my wife out of the hospital today. I'll feel much better when she's at home where the kitties and I can take care of her.

Thanks for all the Switch suggestions. I ended up with Mario, Zelda, and Hollow Knight. All seem like pretty solid choices so far. My wife's been in the hospital so being able to play games with her while I visit has already justified the price for me.

I think I'll end up getting both since I'm too ADD to just play one game straight through. I'm all for hearing more game suggestions.

I'm definitely getting a pro controller. I have fairly small hands but non-ergonomic controllers give me hand cramps. I'm trying to decide if I want to get Zelda and/or Mario to start. Do I need to get a microSD card right away if I'm not buying digital games?

So the approvals for my promotion have been caught up in corporate bureaucratic hell and my boss has been kind of evasive, so I figured it had gotten spiked and she was avoiding telling me. Nope! She called yesterday to let me know the approvals had come through and they were backdating the promotion (and the raise) to June. So I'm a real salaried employee now. Does this mean I have to stop screwing around on the board and start working at work?

I thought God Of War was fine from what I played but the combat didn't really hit the sweet spot between Dark Souls weightiness and more traditional God of War craziness that they were going for. It all felt a little too sluggish.

Turns out it was somewhere in between. Looks like a small infection under the skin but probably not necrotizing fasciitis. She's in surgery now getting the area cleaned up. Thanks all for the good thoughts

3 weeks ago she got a cut on her elbow in the hot tub at her gym. It, of course, got infected and she got antibiotics. Seemed to be clearing up, until about a week ago it started draining lots of fluid. Over the weekend fluid started building up in and around her elbow and, more importantly, tiny air bubbles that you could hear crackling under the skin (which I learned is called crepitation). So we went to the ER at the urging of her PCP and they decided it was one of two things. Either a) something about her ehlers danlos and the physiology of her elbow is introducing air into this cavity via the wound and that's causing the crackling or b) necrotizing bacteria is slowly eating her arm from the inside and creating CO2 while it does. This would normally be pretty cut and dried except my wife doesn't always express infections normally and the normal method of finding out (which is basically just cutting open the arm and digging around) is risky because of her wound healing issues. So basically they're just pumping her full of IV antibiotics and waiting on the results of an MRI. My wife, the medical marvel.

Just got home from 7 hours at the ER with my wife. She either is fine or has flesh eating bacteria. That's not a joke, that's just the kind of shit that happens in our life. She'll be there for at least a day while they pump her full of antibiotics and try to figure out what's going on.

Hello Games announced pre-release that the GOG version wouldn't have multiplayer at launch and that it's coming later this year, a position that hasn't changed at all. GOG is offering refunds because people didn't want to wait for it.

My favorite local mystery is the murder of Albert Kunz, a Wisconsin priest whose throat was slit in his church. Theories that have been floated include Satanists, that he was killed for investigating sexual abuse in the church, that he was killed for covering up/committing sexual abuse, and that he was nailing the female parishioners and a jealous husband got him. Madison's cops are fairly shit at any police work that doesn't involve ticketing homeless people and college kids so we have a fairly high number of stone whodunnits, but most of them aren't as interesting as this one.

Dwight's staunch refusal to grow or mature in any way is so damned frustrating and this is just the perfect encapsulation of that. I will always enjoy watching the Rockets fans' joy turn to ashes in their mouth. That they came so close to their goal only to have it ripped away from them by the team that they both despise and emulate makes it all the sweeter.
