  1. Toni's new gear was cool. Switching to pants is a great heel move for her. Although we knew Allysin was there to do the job, it was still competitive. In fact Allysin looked rather strong having Toni beat with the finish and getting the run ins.

I think Kay would be good for the ROH brand. She worked there sporadically before.

I haven't been feeling the Outcasts from its genesis. Unfortunately the stable still has steam, they have merch, and they're the 3 biggest female names in AEW. We'll be seeing them a while longer I imagine.

Women's tag titles match was building to something solid until that double stomp/powerbomb combo hurt Dakota. They went to the finish quick and it worked well enough. Hopefully Dakota is fine.

Yea hopefully it was a work. It kinda-sorta tied into the finish with all the confusion but something seemed off. Poor Dakota.

Bianca's celebration ceremony seemed like it got cut for time. Good to see Asuka return and make a clear "heel" statement by misting the Champ during her celebration, in front of her family, in her hometown. The layers of disrespect here 😤

It looks like they're possibly moving into a 4 way situation with Bianca v Asuka v Bayley v Iyo. That title needs to come off Bianca and this will be the best way to do it and keep Bianca looking strong. Transitional champion or not they need to take a moment and create a title picture that has more viable threats.

  3. Kelly vs Masha was good. Two battle hardned women with a well of offense working a snug match. Got decent time too.  Masha Slamovich is the campiest wrestling name for me so despite being one of the best on the roster she'll never win me over as a  character.

Speaking of characters The Coven comes across as forced. Taylor Wilde and Kilynn are not witches... even if they're holding tarot cards on the way to the ring.

The tag was a solid match. I'd like to see Jordynne and Kilynn in a 1v1 slugging it out.

Trinity looked/sounded good backstage with the promo and got a good response for the save.

How did we not talk about Sareee's produce show on 5/16? This thing's only got four matches but it's loaded.

    1. Riko Kaiju vs. Yurika Ota
    2. Miyuki Takase & Ibuki Hoshi vs. Arisa Nakajima & AKARI
    3. Jaguar Yokota & Nanae Takahashi vs. Kaoru Ito & X
    4. Sareee vs. Chihiro Hashimoto

Matches 2 and 4 on paper should be great, and I'm really high on Riko Kaiju so I think the opener should be a bunch of fun too.

Saree & Chihiro have had some good matches in SENDAI before so I'm sure that it will deliver. Cool to see some another solid SENDAI talent with Takase.

I’d be real tempted to make Rampage women only a couple times a month once Collision starts…

That actually isn't a bad idea. They did so with a few episodes of Dark/Elevation. NxT has done it a few times as well as Impact.

Even as a women's wrestling fan, I don't think AEW could pull that off regularly, but at least once a month, using Rampage to feature the female roster, develop their characters, and further storylines could work.

Interesting that Anna Jay vs. Julia Hart is heel vs. heel but in terms of how the match is worked, they made the decision to put Julia in the face role. I wonder why. It's just weird seeing the person from the spooky powers stable getting beaten down for a big chunk of the match.

I feel like Julia has a history of getting more of a face reaction. I thought the match was pretty even though and both women kept their heel essence. Equally vicious and underhanded with each other.

The match wasn't bad to me, but the hiccups seemed more memorable than the good. Julia's failed kickout after the gory bomb on the chairs (that was a 3 count 😆). The superplex didnt land on the chairs and considering that was part of the finish I'll remember that the most unfortunately.

What exactly is Anna Jay's character? They keep booking her in these hard-core match situations but I don't feel that's a real element of her character. Add that to the fact that she loses most of those matches and/or something goes wrong... I'm missing what the end game could possibly be here.

  7. Debuting Zoey Stark the 1st week with no vignettes or any kind of build up and pairing her with a character like Nikki that's been MIA for months now was a bad move. The crowd could have cared less.

I'm a big fan of Stark. I feel like she needed that moment in NXT that took her to another level though (the title). Looks like they'll give her a few wins and just to start using her as a hand before long

Trish vs Lynch is not what I want in 2023. I'm sorry. I understand that there aren't anymore true stars for Becky to beat until they can position her into an angle with Rhea but I dont think this match is going to translate well in the ring.

  8. Nice debut for Trinity. She seemed comfortable presenting herself to a new crowd, talking on the mic, and she looked happy doing it. Doesn't seem to be much change character wise and I don't think there needs to be. The GLOW is cool, fun, flashy, and all that good shit. It's hers.

It sucks that as amazing of an athlete Trinity is she doesn't have that resume of matches to fall back on. On paper Trinity vs most of the current KOs doesn't sound all that interesting until we can see what Trinity can do in the ring without the restrictions.

Impact and NJPW have a solid working relationship at the moment so even if Trinity doesn't make it to Japan I still think there's a possibility we'll see her associated with the STRONG brand.

  9. PR was a hot crowd all night long for a pretty solid show.

Bianca has now entered that John Cena/Trish Stratus phase of booking. While people may look at maybe the 5-10 smarky cities the WWE visit a yr and say: "Oh they're booing Bianca" "They're turning on Bianca"... she's still incredibly favored and is going to be the face of the division for a few more yrs to come. If they do turn her heel, great. I just don't think that's gonna happen anytime soon even if she's getting mixed reactions like she got here.

All that said Bianca vs Iyo was amazing. Bianca has proved time and time again that she's a natural. Iyo needed a hot crowd that was going to pop big for her offense and she got it. Hopefully they can add some layers to this whole Dmg Ctrl storyline and it works out well for Iyo bc there's a lot more she and Bianca can do in the ring. I'd like to see this boil down to a 3 way of Bianca vs Bayley vs Iyo with Iyo breaking away from the faction and taking the title.

Loved the crystals in Seth Rollins gear. She's been killing it with her looks.

I didn't expect much from Rhea vs Zelina. I just don't think Zelina can keep up in the ring with the top tier women. Every big match she's in feels like her opponents are dailing it down.

Kudos to Bunny for breaking out the strong style moveset. Pretty entertaining match with the run ins.

Cody is definitely the new Peoples Champ. Loved that sign. He needed this win to keep the steam.

  10. I heard the name Eddie Kingston for years but never went out of the way to check his work out, so I'm thankful for AEW giving him exposure on a national level. Other than being great on commentary... I love his ring style. He and Jay slugged their way through a nice match. I felt Jay White has had a good NJPW run and he found more success than I thought he ever would.

Rosser vs KENTA was interesting. I'll have to check out Rossers work with Lawlor, but I didn't really like this match. I remember reading an interview where Romero put over Rosser for being a hard worker, but bringing him into NJPW was a hard sell. The guy just isnt known for standout matches. In a match vs KENTA on a sold out show for a title... it felt a little too slow paced and underwhelming. KENTA working matches like this 20 yrs ago would have probably saved him some injuries.

Kairi vs Mercedes was MOTN for me as it should have been. I knew and hoped Mercedes was going to walk out champ, otherwise what would the end game have been? Immediately draw spotlight and attention to that title and a huge star. There was just enough of everything in this match and it came with very few hiccups. Hopefully Mercedes ends up in the ring with Kairi again as there is another level I feel those 2 can take it too.

NJPW is undoubtedly the largest promotion in Japan so I never understand why production of their shows always struggles. I don't know if applies to what makes it to Japanese TV but every stream I've bought has had some sort of technical difficulty, usually audio, that makes me question why such a successful company encounters so many hiccups

  11. That 6 woman tag was fun. Not sold on Hayter at the moment. The crowd loves her, but much like Toni I think she lacks camera presence and charisma when she isnt wrestling her ass off. I don't think there is a better female athlete on The AEW roster than Athena nor a more natural baby face than Willow.

Everything about Willow is clicking right now. She's literally lightning in a bottle. Sadly I don't think she's taking Jade down so not taking great advantage of all of the steam and momentum is questionable. What are they doing with Nyla vs Jade? This is the second time they have teased an angle with them...

Best AEW women's singles match in how long?

    A long time.

Hayter vs Willow was way better than it should have been considering the two haven't crossed paths much if at all to my knowledge. A well paced, hard hitting match. Didn't like the smarky crowd cheering the heel, but at least the match was really over. The 6 woman tag on Dynamite should be interesting.

  13. Trey Miguel and Rocky Romero tore the house down with their match. Crowd got super into it, they gave it a good amount of time, Romero controlled the pace like a true veteran, and Trey looked super solid in his 1st defense. A lot of innovative stuff here from both, but Rocky reversing that Meteora into the single crab was seamless. I'd love to Rocky regularly appear in impact. I think he fits in well there.

The IInspiration debuting with a "Mean Girl" gimmick makes sense. Impact is the cradle of life for that gimmick with females. They looked good as always.

  14. Yea ultimately I think Mandy's "glass ceiling" is that she isnt as good. Athletic, charismatic, but she isnt stringing together stellar matches.

I think the landscape has changed and the opportunities that girls like Alexa and Carmella had are harder to come by nowI so moving down to NXT and working this angle as Toxic Attraction is going to be a saving grace for her career.

  15. The Tbs title is perfect for Jade. Shes a star with a big win record that they need to keep away from the main title.

Jade vs Sky was not very different than what we've seen before. The post match run in with Rosa seems as if they're going to carry this feud into the tournament.

  16. I'm not a fan of the Bucks at all, but Bryan is GOAT so I had to see him kick the shit outta the Flying Grayson. Good match.

Jade/Rosa/Nyla was ok considering no one in the match was particularly good or seasoned in the ring. Kudos to Nyla though as she is a trooper and always gives it everything. I have no idea why they were so interested in protecting Rosa that they couldn't use the Jaded after the chair shot for a solid finish.

Rosa needs to ditch the side step drop kicks. They look terrible and weak. I dont particularly like her. I think the way she innovates and improvises during matches arent well thought out and even unsafe. I cant doubt she is a hard worker though. There arent many that are staying as booked as she is while running their own promotion at the same time.

Jade is a star and while it's hard to see visible improvement at this point at least she isn't looking worse. I hope she and Nyla have more chances to work against each other. Nyla has the size to move Jade and direct her.

  17. Kyona leaving Stardom before her return is a shock, but to hear that she is possibly taking on the role of producing her own shows is exciting. Hasn't been much of that in recent yrs. Still hope a venture into the US is open. She could definitely work lighter and extend her career a few more yrs.

  18. I thought Empowerrr was a pretty good show top to bottom. I do agree with the technical difficulties. Camera angles were off and the overall production quality struggled, but too much awesomeness came out of this ppv to hark on it.

The tag tourney was great. I dont think there was any doubt the Hex would take this, but they fought their way there nonetheless. Never seen Marti work like that. She looked good. Great tag maneuvers.

Kamille and Leyla was MOTN. The finish was a little soft with that spear but they were going at it all match.

Kong retiring was a surprise and bitter sweet moment. One of my all time favorite wrestlers. There will never be anyone close to her level of greatness.

  19. Franky Monets debut last week was awkward to me bc I didn't really get the character. Are you boujee or are you "wera loca"? Another appearance from her this week and I'm already ready for them to drop the character.

Good debut for Sarray. Having seen her work before, I was still surprised with her adaptation to a WWE while maintaining those screamy joshi mannerisms. She gave me Sakie Hasegawa vibes with that rolling savate + uranage combo. Glad she kept that finish

Zoey continues to impress me every week. An incredible athlete and she looks so seasoned even though she's relatively new. I just hope something can develop there character wise. She's got the crowd behind her and she's gaining attention from viewers.

    Go away Toni Storm

  20. Shocked by them letting Joe go, but hes been out of the ring for some time and I think that pushed the decision.

Billie and Peyton had their magic together and once creative split them I felt their futures were kinda bleak. Just odd that they'd release Billie as she just made a WM appearance.

I'll be interested in seeing where some of these men and women end up. Mickie can still go and loves wrestling.

I dont like these mass releases. There shouldn't be a day where you decide that all the "loose ends" are cut. Some of these people are floating in limbo for months or yrs. Just seems like it would be more professional and courteous to monitor and make decisions about people's careers on an individual level.

  21. Cool news though all the details are still being put together. It was great to see Stardom grow and expand on their own but getting acquired by the biggest promotion in Japan cant hurt. With the increase in presentation and production value their business will continue to grow.

Keeping them separate yet marketing them together internationally is smart. Doesn't hurt that these girls will likely be looking at better pay, health care, etc that comes with being signed to full time contracts.
