Agreed, particularly after what ended up happening to him later in life (same for Axl Rotten).

Oh totally. I ran into Balls at a Life of Agony concert in 2005ish and he was the happiest, friendliest guy ever. He was just happy to be recognized, introduced me to his wife and wound up talking with me for like an hour about wrestling, music and being from NJ.

or Skull Von Krush. Lord I'll never forget that for 2 shows for some reason the crowd turned on RVD to root for Skull, including at ECW arena. I also remember taking the bus trip to the Arena that Skull was the special guest on the montly bus trip to the Arenaand when he revealed what the New Movement was... well one friend of mine was really hoping it was some sort of Mussolini inspired Fascist gimmick.

It was not. My friend was disappointed

I forget...what was the New Movement?

Balls is criminally underrated by people because his bread and butter was hardcore stuff but he was actually pretty good. In terms of having RVD's best singles matches you could make a strong case Balls is second only to Jerry Lynn.

He had a ton of great matches with RVD. It is a shame he didn't focus on more straight up wrestling.

  4. 1)Randy Savage vs Mitsuharu Misawa - Savage, as he more widely known and referenced culturally.

2)Ultimate Warrior vs Ricky Steamboat - I couldn't figure this one out. Like lots of kids fell in love with wrestling on the surface because the Warrior, well, he's the Warrior. But the ones who would stick around appreciate how great Steamboat is as a worker. And that influenced future wrestlers more so.

3)Jake Roberts vs Chris Jericho - Jericho, as his longevity and the variety of his body of work are more impressive. Also, Jericho is a great representative of prowrestling to the outside world.

4)Big Show vs Jeff Hardy - Hardy, as his tag team work is amazing and that parts of his life are a cautionary tale.

5)Edge vs Batista - In ring career, it is a wash. But Batista has had a more successful post-wrestling life.

6)Daniel Bryan vs Randy Orton - Bryan.

  5. It's funny...I went to high school there before they had the mini arena. My friend teaches there and said it was very distracting having the WWE trucks outside the classroom all day.

The last time WWE ran that building was right after they relaunched ECW with a so-so show.

To me, the good matches argument is dated. Most wrestlers nowadays can work and regularly produce average to above average matches.

This. There's so many better workers that I'm more drawn to ones that have better gimmicks.

  7. I keep wondering what their definition of being a success will be, especially on the live event run. Are they content running--and probably selling out--the smal/mid sized venues that ROH and NXT book. Or are they aiming bigger? I think at this point I'm less interested in seeing who is on their roster and more into what their goal is.

That was Smackdown's punishment for getting over on its own.

I'm surprised Netflix didn't try to pick up Lucha Underground considering they were showing the first seasons. Then again given how abysmal the current season apparently is, that's probably not a big loss.

I finally got around to watching Lucha Underground when the first two seasons were on Netflix. Is it worth watching going forward?

But then, you have the case of No Way Jose and the IIconics. In both cases, they're still lower-tier workers- No Way Jose an opener who's just there to get the crowd moving, the IIconics as the female comedy specialists on the roster. On paper, they'd both be MISS...but at the same time, we saw enough from both acts that we could likely say in NXT "No Way Jose's peak on the main roster is basically 'fun opening match guy who gets the crowd moving', and the Iconic Duo's peak was "they're goofy comedic heels who can show up, get clobbered, and get their heat back on the mic." They are both in low levels, but they're at the EXACT spot the WWE was aiming for and doing well at it...so even if their spots are low, you'd have to argue they HIT.

THIS. But as fans, I think it can be hard to admit that a character that we've invested in has an upper limit.

As for the Bayley stuff, I would say that in addition to Alexa walking all over her that the ongoing frenemy story with Sasha hasn't helped her at all.

Random thought while watching Raw: I noticed the cameramen a lot during All In and not at all during Raw.

Something I'd like to imagine Cody and the Bucks improve upon in their future endeavors.

My wife was passively watching All In, because she had no choice, and pointed that out to me. Once I noticed it, I couldn't un-notice it.

There's a few stand alone stores in NJ.  I think there are a few rest areas that still have them integrated into them that have not been replaced yet.

This. One opened in the last five years or so I think. You get all excited, then eat at one and immediately remember why you never go there.

I want to say about 12 or 13 years ago when his contract was coming up for renewal, and there were rumors he might leave.  I always thought if he went to the WWE, he could have been repackaged as a new Dudley brother.  Needless to say, I should probably never book a promotion.

Don't doubt yourself; I can totally see that now. Wow.

One other thing, regarding Cody/Omega: I wonder if they went out there, thinking they might have just seen Hiromu's last match. Juice and White presumably were making their entrances before he collapsed backstage, but surely Cody and Kenny were aware.

Yeah. I could see that completely throwing them off. That said, the Juice/Switchblade match was really good.

Pffff, they did that all wrong. Too respectful with the sad tinkering piano and solemn voiceover. It should've been soundtracked with a heavy metal chugachugachuga riff and some deep voiced dude shouting through all his plaudits with nothing but footage of him murdering jobbers being shown

Watching him mow through jobbers was terrifying as a kid. Especially all the commentary about how he had broken backs left and right with the powerbomb.

upon first look, it looks like the ESPN+ deal is in ADDITION to fight pass.

it specifically mentions you can watch Fight Pass through ESPN+ for an additional charge, so i think they are two separate entities.

It's probably in the same vein of how Amazon Prime offers me HBO.

Holy shit, I'm not even through an hour of today's What Happened When and this might be the best episode yet. Tony riffing as Mean Gene is hilarious shit. If that wasn't enough, then his constant digs at Conrad getting a WWE check now, Conrad getting in digs at Tony getting paid $.25 for MLW (and Tony later saying if you watch a month of MLW I'll make a $1), and then Tony riffing about Johnny B. Badd, DDP, and Col. Robert Parker is amazing.

I'm not sure I've ever laughed this much during a wrestling podcast and there's still 2 hours left.

All of this. I was crying from laughing so hard at the Okerlund bits on the way into work this morning.
