So thanks to @AxBfor posting the ringside video of the Cardona/Gage match in the blood thread.  I don't normally check out deathmatches or even recall seeing a full one with Gage in it.  For one while I always respected Cardona but to let himself take all that is pretty insane for somebody that was in WWE for so long.  For another I think because it was Cardona it led to them milking the spots more to maximize audience engagement.  It had that big-time feel to it and to see them flip out when he won is pretty incredible.  I'm also really glad he won as that's going to extend the feud for at least a couple months.  So while they may have used Gage's main weapons I have a feeling the blowoff's going to be even more insane than that.

Maybe they'll do there own exploding ring match!

If he has a really great performance I would give him a contract.

Old school fans getting pissed off about him just shows how much the reactions are phony from people like Cornette. Like why would you hate the idea of booking this kind of dangerous white trash menace character, when that’s the kind of heel you’d book in the territory back in the day?

I guess it's because Gage really is that psycho white trash dude?

I'm not really a fan of him or the GCW/CZW death match stuff at all, and I'm really burnt out on watching AEW. But he's a compelling enough person that I'll definitely check him this out. This is definitely the type of side-show stuff that you need from time to time.

Eddie said in an interview recently that Cesaro was supposed to put him over before he went to WWE. I think it was Chikara, maybe? Wherever they were together before. Then Cesaro refused on the day of. Eddie appears to be a bit of a grudge carrier.

I would assume it would have been in Chikara, but a quick look through the end of Cesaro's time there it never looks like they had a logical match. They were doing a G1 style block tournament for the Grand Champion and neither Cesaro or Kingston were in the same block.

Match of the year for me currently is either Jeff Cobb vs Shingo or Walter vs Ciampa. America seems to have reopened but the rest of the world still has to deal with covid restrictions, curious how the rest of 2021 plays out.

Both of those were great. I think that match was my turning point on becoming a Cobb fab.

Is that Poppy's shoot voice or gimmick voice? Because holy shit I'm going to be hearing that in my nightmares for the next week.

I think it's somewhere in between the two. She's amazingly creepy.

As my G.O.A.T., I love way too many Bret lines - it's cheating, but I heard him say it before I ever heard the Stones: "Ya can't always get what you want, but ya get what ya need."

If that doesn't count, then the one I'll go with today is "Just wanna say hi to my cat, Smokey" from a random guest commentary appearance on Nitro (surprise, surprise: they sent him to the booth with *nothing*)

This is why we are friends in my head.

I love his quote from the WWE HOF..."Never spend the second half of your life getting over the first half."

    2.  Does death matches so isn't really a "wrestler" .  Which is funny since they had no issue with New Jack using this argument.

New Jack wrestled with Incredible Hulk hands on and based his gimmick on El Kabong ?

Is he addicted to banks and he robs drugs?

Anyway, I'm not a big deathmatch guy, but I'm really looking forward to the Gage episode.  He's an interesting character.  A lot of these deathmatch guys are.  I'm weirdly fascinated by them.  It's like they're folk heroes in a way.  There are a lot of wrestling fans who won't take them seriously, but the one's who do LOVE them.  People like to complain about them destroying their bodies or whatever, but let's face it, a guy like Gage would most likely be going from job to job, would maybe still be an addict and in jail (or worse, dead) if he didn't have wrestling as an outlet.  It may not be the "big time", but he's over as fuck everywhere he goes.  More power to him and all of the other deathmatch "freaks".

I'm right there with you. I've never been into deathmatches, but it fascinates me why they would do that to themselves.

Allow me to clarify. I'm sure people conceptualize that OMG is big, obviously. But I don't think people really internalized the idea that he's 6'9".

This. I always knew OMG was big and assumed he was close in size to Bigelow. But after the picture you posted; OMG is quite OMG worthy.

There is a Danielson vs. Nakajima match that happened in 2008 ROH (Glory by Honor). There even was a NOAH house show match Danielson & Roderick Strong vs. Nakajima & Miyahara. Obviously, all are different wrestlers now, but still.

    Danielson vs. Hiromu Takahashi please.

That doesn't seem right. WWF stopped sending talent over to work NJPW tours as far back as 1985, five years before the Tokyo Dome Wrestling Summit and subsequent formation of Super World Sports. The final NJPW talent showing up in WWF was the December 1984 MSG show with the famous Cobra vs Black Tiger match, and Inoki vs Dr. D David Schultz. Hogan's last NJPW match in that era was in June 1985 against Inoki.

Andre kept going over to Japan into 1986, but that might have been separate from the overall talent trade agreement.

Inoki vs Schultz sounds all kinds of interesting. Have you seen it?

Watched a little of the Filthy Island stuff and I am not sure if this is supposed to look bush league and amateurish on purpose or not.  it is clear they are doing a version of Fyre Fest with his crappy the service and food is.  But the actual product looks like one of those backyard death match shows that ran during the summer

Yeah it was intentional. Story line wise, it was revealed that Lawlor was squatting on the Von Erich's ranch, unbeknownst to them.

Ron Simmons's spinebuster worked because he just fuckin stiffly tried to shove you through the mat.

But I mean Arn Anderson is such an obvious answer that I assume it's because he's working for the competition that he's not on this thing.

Simmons' is my favorite. It just looks like he's waffling someone.

I may be misremembering, but I know at one point they were partnered with whoever runs MLB.tv and then they left, so it's at least possible.

Nope, you're right. The original version was powered by Bam Tech, and when Disney bought Bam the contract wasn't renewed. The current version is from Endeavor Streaming. I do have to say, the previous version was much more stable than the Endeavor one.
