Oh man, what's Jinder up to? I haven't seen that dude in ages.

I was there the night he won the title. Might need to make my own power point on how WWE taking Chicago for granted that night lead to fans selling out the Sears Centre for All In.

In the 24/7 mix, chased down R Truth on a golf course in a non televised social media segment in the last couple of weeks. He also appeared on one of those IIconics skits (again on social media) squeezing into a t shirt and being generally likeable.

Im disappointed he never showed up in the Drew / Heath interaction last week to give us a 3MB reunion

Edit: like @West Newbury Bad Boy Said

(Is there really an anti-British English rhetoric that's serious? People over here in 'Merica still think the Queen's sounds classy AF and even would probably love a Cockney accent despite any of the "My Fair Lady" bias that might have permeated our culture.)

Meant mostly in jest, there was some friendly banter about Massachusetts accents / British English somewhere in a recent thread.

I’m equally jealous of folks like @Tromatagon who live local enough to go to Lucha Underground (when it existed). Well, now living in Oz the only wrestling positive is I can watch both US and Japanese wrestling without staying up ungodly hours.

Wow, Seth is really succeeding in working us, if his goal is to make himself look like a tit. I also agree on those SI comments countering Moxley being just bad form, whether you’re a company man or not there is a way to do it without attacking your supposed friend’s character.

I'll be glad to edit my posts for unclear pronouns in the future, but let's just make one thing clear: I am NOT your "pronouns pal." We're just not that close, for one, and I like to build my friendships on foundations other than the parts of speech.

Well, considering the recent anti-British English rhetoric and the fact that I hail from ‘ Sarf Lundon’ (a real cockney, not like Ospreay and those Essex mockney wannabes ?) it seems like language is more likely to be a foundation for division than unity.

Peace and love, my bredren (appropriating Jamaican patwah being another quirk of Londoners)

  4. Jungle Boy comes off very likeable in the skits and in his interviews with Jericho and Chris Van Vliet. He has a lovable look, and the undersized Rey Mysterio quality that kids are drawn to. Luchasaurus can be his Batista.

Plus, he could pass for a long lost Buck so they have that in their back pocket if they run dry on creative ideas down the road.

  5. It’s quite a sign of how far the women’s side has fallen off since the promise shown at the Evolution PPV and the hot period where the women were putting on some of the best matches on the show with the most buzz. And a testament to Becky how she’s still getting the star treatment despite the drop-off. As @LoneWolf&Subs mentioned, an injection of new blood would be great to respark the division and bring the match quality back up.

Also, Rollins is a mark for himself, sure, but aren't all wrestlers? I say this as a dude who thinks he sucks as a singles and screams "lifelong FIP in a main event tag team" as his natural ceiling

Pronouns pal. I read this thinking ‘oh cool, I never knew Smelly McUgly was a wrestler’ and then ‘he’s pretty full of himself’ and then ‘I’m a stupid idiot’.

As a midcard bully heel and maybe gatekeeper, yeah, he had a place. But after all this? I'm not sure he still will.

I still feel that he’s useful as a utility guy who can be imposing and is reasonable enough on the mic to fit into the mid card. But you may be right that the goodwill of the people has been burned through with the incessant spotlight.

Absence would certainly make the heart grow fonder. An excursion to brutalise the NXT-UK crew perhaps?

  8. Focusing on the positives, I really enjoyed the Bryan/Rowan/Heavy Machinery match. They seemed to be flowing well and having a good time, the crowd included.

Joe’s and Drew’s matches were fun too, although *again* two of my fave 5 take the L.

Baron Corbin has a place in the ensemble. This is not his place.

I listened to one of his previews wwe doesn't want you to hear, won't make that mistake again. Love the podcast when he has wrestling guests, but I skip all the rest.

Like Steve Austin, I feel that Jericho is a great interviewer and I never miss a wrestler episode. But equally, I would never touch the conspiracy theory / ghost / aliens BS with Jericho, and couldn't care less about the hunting / guns / truck jibber jabber in Austin's non-guest episodes.

But, to each his own. I won't begrudge a man his hobbies and you can tell they are passionate about this stuff.

As for non-wrestler Jericho interviews, I have enjoyed his conversations with Bruce Dickinson.

  10. It's a shame that the positivity around this week's shows is not borne out in the ratings.

Yes they are not the be-all end-all by any means, but Smackdown hit an all-time non-holiday low of 1.27 (last Xmas day was 1.24) with 1.8m watching. The 18-34 demo was a third of what it was this time last year (0.34 vs 0.96).

Surely they can't keep on tanking like this without some serious challenge at the quarterly shareholder call, or by FOX execs. Or do they just ignore it and keep swimming Scrooge McDuck style in the vast pool of Saudi and TV money and ignore the issues.

  11. DEAN got a mention in Todd Martin’s book review for Vader’s autobiography. Since Vader wrote the book with the assistance of a ghost writer but it is all written in the one voice from a first person perspective, it can break the spell of authenticity when the wrestler gives an oddly specific reference to an obscure detail that feels shoehorned in to support a claim, opinion etc.

Todd used a reference to Dean Rasmussen, author of DVDVR in the UWFi section of the book as a prime example of this, as he didn’t imagine Vader was an avid consumer of the DVDVRs back in the day. But who’s to say???

Oh the G1 is a thing?  I thought it died a horrible death because MINORU SUZUKI ISN'T IN IT AND THEY CAN EAT MY SHIT.  ALL OF MY SHIT.

I get that this is presumably indignation put on for our entertainment, but according to the rumblings he is a lot more broken down than he lets on so this may be a mercy for his health despite the frustration for those of us who want to see a Suzuki maiming for all the newcomers.

  13. Really enjoying MLW week to week and I agree with @LoneWolf&Subs in being impressed by their ability to create real stars on a shoestring budget and without relying on in-ring spectacles.

I do wonder if their niche will be taken by AEW once the TNT show starts. Or if they pivot even more towards the Lucha influence with LU over and the success of their Lucha-inspired and Hispanic acts.

  14. 15 minute sell-out, and enough folks in the queue to sell out a stadium. Every single step of their journey has been at least meeting if not exceeding expectations. From the initial announcements, press conferences, roster signings, TV deals, to the first PPV reception and buy rates, to the strong post-game media interviews, to now the second PPV in a row selling out in no time. This all has to look good for their business partners in Warner / ITV and hopefully result in a massive mutually beneficial push leading into TV.

I remain as sceptical as anyone else regarding their ability to book compelling pro-wrestling for 2 hours week in week out, particularly their ability to hit the right tone between the BTE/freaks and geeks circus and the dramatic, old-school sports-centric upper card. Also, with a smaller pool of legit stars, injuries could really throw them off track even with the best laid plans.

But it's tough to bet against them with the track record so far.

Re Spears, he will complement the relatively green midcard with his experience both in-ring and behind the scenes for over a decade between developmental and WWE main roster. As long as he doesn't wear us down with the 10 thing or encroach on the main event I'm happy with the signing.

Who else worked on GLOW? I remember Johnny Impact/Mundo being in one episode. Same with Alex Riley. Chavo Guerrero was doing some coaching I think?

Anyway, I'm surprised they gave Tyrus the boot so quickly. By most accounts, he fits right in with the culture over at Fox.

I’m pretty sure she mentioned the creepiness / discomfort in the Maron podcast and it was specifically the day of filming the backyard scene with Macchu Pichu’s brothers (Carlito and Tyrus). So if Carlito was back the next season, it does suggest an issue with Tyrus.

I think Yuka will be a breakout star, myself.

Also, looking at the present, a good fit for the Fyter Fest audience. I linked to her entrance theme in I think the DoN thread, but it is amazing in its over the top nutso animeness.

Id only heard Janela talking in out of character interviews where he’s laid back / hungover to the point of slurring his words so I want expecting much but that was a really creative and intense promo. Allin’s was fantastic as well.

Theres a pertinent reddit post currently about the need for AEW to consolidate their YouTube content, and I agree as they have BTE, Cody’s channel and the official AEW channel putting out different great content that you may miss if you don’t stay on top of it.

Edit to add the video here

Just going by @Zartan's post, I think "X-Pac heat" should be re-named "Shane-O-Mac heat".

The shame is that I felt the Shane / Miz program was pretty strong through to Mania...and then Shane just hung around as not just an onscreen character, not just as a semi in-ring competitor, but as a full fledged have-a-back-and-Forth-match-with-Roman competitor. Which is ridiculous and/or offensive depending on your point of view.
