  1. Well, I’m not afraid to admit when I’m wrong. They finally proved they don’t need Punk.

    Excellent show.

Danielson and Starks had probably the best match in Stark’s career.

Omega/Soup was a great and nasty match.

OC just got MADE in that match with Mox.

    Classic AEW “underpromise/overdeliver” method.

A Young Bucks victory lap in a 30% full United Center is one of the reasons why right or wrong, I stand with Punk.

If this ends up being the death blow to AEW, at least I can take cold comfort in these assholes putting over the 2025 equivalent to Rybaxel on Main Event someday (probably under the names Jason and Jeremy Buckwalter or something similarly stupid).

I hope they keep the brand split a little bit, even if its not official. I like BCC and Jericho, but it was nice having a show where they didn't dominate 25% of the TV time. Let them stay primarily on Dynamite doing their thing and give some of the other stars a chance to shine on the other.

If both shows just end up being the "same" in regards to wrestlers and style, I'll probably just end up not watching Collision anymore as Dynamite is enough Dynamite for me. I stopped watching Rampage a long time ago as it just felt like a lesser Dynamite extension. But we'll see how things go in the next month.

I still think killing the Dark shows was a mistake, because the “WCW C-show” style and booking popped me as someone who loved those times. All it needed was an AEW TV title to defend on there and you had gold.

  4. Having taken some time away from the initial shock, I can clearly say that this sucks, because Punk was the reason I got into AEW despite not watching most of his WWE run because of my refusal to watch WWE, and there still being no way I’d watch WWE with him on it again (but that’s a discussion for another thread).

All I know is, I’ll probably still watch AEW with him gone, but with the detachment I had when he was hurt/suspended last year. They had months to prove they didn’t need him, and failed. And I am trying to avoid hyperbole, but I do think this is going to be the point where AEW crumbles and either becomes another Impact AT BEST, or closes down.

WYTS on defector starting with the Bears. . .

The Falcons one had its share of “Georgia’s a natty-caliber team now, why am I wasting time with the Falcons?” posts.

I anticipate the Cleveland one next week will either be sparse or have a lot of “how I spent my fall not caring about the Browns since they signed Watson” posts.

Talking out both sides of your mouth while lovingly tonguing corporate balls takes an incredible amount of talent.

Also, "well there's no new TV...let's check out this pro wrestling thing!" said nobody, ever.

A pandemic that brought scripted, reality, AND sports television to a sudden halt didn’t bring more eyes to pro wrestling, who thinks a strike will do it?

  7. If James Harden is in a 76ers uniform this fall I’m thinking my once-in-a-decade attempt to get into basketball falls on its ass yet again.

Or I’ll just say “screw it” and become a Lakers fan.

  8. That old GIF was from around the time WWE ran Fake Trump/Fake Rosie O’Donnell, the match that made the fervent WWE hater I am to this day, so I surely would have been agreeing to it without an ounce of irony or self-awareness.

Then again that was also when I was watching the worst, most Russoriffic offerings TNA put on screen and forcing myself to think it was good, so maybe there was a hint of self-awareness buried in all the delusion after all.

I'm working on this as well, got Thief for my first job which is both good (great damage and avoids a lot of attacks) and bad (you can't buy weapons they can use until the second town). I'm debating turning the two who don't have weapons back into Freelancers until I get to that town, it'll depend on how things go in the ship graveyard.

If you have thieves I imagine just flee all the time? Once you get the Chicken Knife and Mug, the one thief you have left is likely to be a bazooka.

  10. Not XVI, but I’ve been playing Final Fantasy V because it’s Four Job Fiesta season (in short; you are assigned four Jobs as you progress through the game and can use only those Jobs, and there are several variations). I cheated because I rolled for my Jobs early, and got White Mage, Time Mage, Ranger and Chemist.

White Mage: standard healer, you know the routine. However as you can imagine battling anyone not undead is a pain. So I invoked a rule from one of the first years where you can use a Freelancer (no Job equipped) to give some physical umph until you get your second Job.

Time Mage: mainly deals in status magic (Slow, Haste, Regen, and so on), but their most useful ability early on is their ability to break elemental Rods (think the classic Throw ability except instead of just throwing it you break it and it casts a level 3/-aga spell), which makes elemental bosses a snap.

Ranger: Physical class that specializes in bows and can deal damage from the back row. They also have an ability called Animals that summons various woodland creatures based on an RNG that rolls based on the user’s level, and can either attack enemies or heal you for free. Of note is the ability Rapid Fire which lets you attack four times in one turn, similar to the X-Fight/4x-cut ability. Why’s that important? Well, there is a weapon called the Chicken Knife later in the game that is powered based on how many times you flee from battle (more fleeing = stronger weapon), but it also has a chance of attempting to flee instead. Rapid Fire, as well as several other action abilities, override that and guarantee an attack each time. So… carnage.

Chemist: I haven’t gotten this yet, but it’s probably the most powerful Job in the game solely on account of the Mix ability, which lets you combine two items into one. If you know what to use, you can do ridiculous things like full heals, debuff enemies, and even increase your party’s levels for the entire battle. Imagine building up a Level 99 party in just a few turns. Yeah.

Anyway, I’m about to go into the dungeon where you get the fourth Job, and once I do it will be time to grind for Rod money and Mixing items.

  11. I just wanted to say that in the middle of BOS/MIA Game 4 I put $10 on a reverse sweep because I was convinced it would happen as the captain of the “NBA is a work” brigade, and I had a chance last Sunday to cash out for $48 after it was tied up, or let it ride and try to win $60.

Suffice it to say it didn’t happen. They can’t even work a playoff series right, and right now I hope the Nuggets sweep the whole thing and win the rest of the games by 40.
