Sorry for the piecemeal recap. But man, Bayley/Naomi were tearing the house down until Tiffy Time showed up to run the proceedings. Best Naomi has ever looked. They need to run that back and let them have 15-20 minutes. Bayley is the absolute best. Naomi has always had really great athleticism and flashy moves and reacts well when taking damage. She’s just not-so-good at connecting all of that together, so a lot of her matches look disjointed. Bayley thought is at the very elite level of knowing how to tell a story in the ring. It’s in a way a perfect pairing. Naomi has all the ingredients, and Bayley is the Master Chef.

This is good point about Naomi and one of the reasons why her and Shayna have good matches, Shayna does a bunch of little things (staggering, delaying getting up) that makes Naomi's offense look better.

Need to make a list of all the dumb terms they've used to try to disguise "hey it's a promo seg."  How they haven't gotten to "scrum" yet is anyone's guess.  Honestly, Chris' next reinvention should be a middle manager type who talks in business buzzwords.  He should tell Hook that they'll take this offline and circle back to touch base on their action items so they can strategize once they've gotten a 10,000 foot view and buy-in from the leadership.

Eddie Kingston addresses his enemies is probably my favorite alternative title to promo segment.

Also that last sentence is triggering for someone who is using his lunch break to get away from the corporate world. 😂

Mina Shirakawa wrestled on the Zero Hour of ROH Supercard of Honour, 5 days before Dynamite. And interacted with Mariah May, after her match. To say "Oh Tony Khan assumes everyone watches everything, of course he expects us to follow Stardom", that's pretty disingenuous. She was just on the YouTube channel of a Tony Khan less than a week ago.

Where was this "Nobody knows who Stardom wrestlers are!" energy when Giulia showed up in NXT, eh?

So this is a bit disingenuous IMO. Yeah, Mina worked a Youtube preshow that's sitting at 22K views for the secondary brand of the main company then came out in a city that isn't a mainstay of the promotion and most likely doesn't have fans that are tapped into Stardom. Comparing that to an onscreen appearance at a tentpole event where your crowd is going to lean more into other promotions isn't the same.

With that said, I know who Mina is because DZ used to post pictures of her before so I followed her on IG. Also that theme music is a Jimmy Hart style rip off of something that's played at sporting events all the time which I thought was hilarious.

Je'von Evans has a decent chance to be a star.

That man was floating during his match. It's always fun to see guys be that graceful flying around.

Cody's main appeal is that he's so goddamn earnest and corny that is somehow works which is rare in most of entertainment.

The backfill on the Chase U stuff is insane and I'd love to be in the booker/writers session where they hashed this out. I feel like dark liquor was consumed at some point.

I'm more worried there aren't enough actual tag teams for both main roster shows to justify 2 sets of tag belts but maybe not? There's 7 non champs on Raw and 6 on SD counting AOP after their NXT run is done. Maybe another if they keep Wolf Dogs together.

Excited to see where everything goes. Also I agree with the folks that think there's something missing from Jey Uso's presentation once the bell rings. He's gotta flesh out the moveset or how he does the moves or something.

I need to do a ticket too, I'm in the same boat.

I'm envying the shit out of your Waller and Davenport cards; I know I mentioned it before, but green Tyler Bate has only a 52 technical submission rating and you have to get 5 tapouts to get him to blue. Even using the Gordian Knot boost to his skills, I have only gotten 2 and that was by playing against Silence the mime and using the Move Thief Payback to do his LeBell Lock (and you'd better beat on him for a WHILE since you only get one shot.) Right now my main cards are Land of the Giants (boss faction) Undertaker, Showcase Steamboat, Hollywood Batista (picked up from the women's story) and Next Gen (boss Faction) Cody for the men, and Showcase Charlotte, Bianca and Asuka with Controlled Bliss (boss faction) Iyo to round it out.

Speaking of the women's story, it is very silly but mostly fun. After the "welcome to the big leagues" stuff, you are given FULL CREATIVE CONTROL and get 3 single chapter stories: you can help Liv out by taking her booking on a thinly-disguised Hot Ones goof involving smelly cheese in hopes of raising your Hollywood profile, learn the path of cruelty and terror from Rhea, or unleash supernatural evil with Alexa's help. All 3 have the same number of side quests, and follow the same pattern--get an introduction from your mentor, surpass them, do a couple of side stories and then come back to them for a blow-off, after which a Face of Foley offers you a one-chance bonus match. I have done the first 2, am about halfway thru the Alexa chapter, and I think after this it's gonna ask me which persona I want to take into the final chapter. So far my favorite parts have been in the Hollywood path: toward the end, you get so exhausted juggling wrestling and outside gigs that Chelsea Green successfully

      Hide contents

begs her way into being your personal assistant. She is incompetent and easily bored, so she hires Tiffany Stratton to be HER assistant and demands that you call Tiffany to ask her to call Chelsea to add things to your schedule. So you beat both their asses.

Like I said, dumb as hell but with kind of a goofy charm. After i finish this, I'm probably going back to Infinite Wealth before doing the men's story, but I will probably continue to do my Universe (went with the classic mode and decided to wait a bit on doing a superstar mode game) and Faction matches some.

The Andre the Giant boss card you can get from Faction Wars is crazy good (high vitality, doles out tons of damage, oddly high power submission rating, and a bonus skill that fills up the stun meter fast and another one that reduces your recovery time so you don't stay down as long). I also hit on the ruby Dom from the Heat pack so that's a nice bonus. Also the Emerald Indi you can buy from the Token market is sneaky good because her speed is like 88.

I'm running the Faction Boss Andre, HBK '94 from the Showcase rewards, my Ruby evo Waller, and the Ruby Dom from the Heat pack for the men and Ruby evo Blair, a ruby Becky from a Live Event (any stats that aren't the same are one point higher with the live Becky versus the showcase Becky, but the badges are different) and Ruby Bianca and Rhea from Showcase mode. I do have a the Ruby Savage from the Live event you need the Gunther card for, and a Ruby Finn from a live event. Other women's cards are a Ruby Trish from the Heat pack (lucky me) and a Sapphire Charlotte from a live event.

Also I see they released the 40 Years of WrestleMania DLC today so I got more cards but they're all Golds so meh.

Which one? Hardcore Revolution or Anarchy Rulz?

Warzone was bad, and so was Attitude, but I spent a lot of time with them, especially because Warzone was such a leap from the LJN WWF games that Acclaim was putting out.

I remember playing a lot of WWF Raw on Genesis as a kid which was good for me at the time and getting the GamePro with the special moves was pretty fun. I remember Doink having a crazy move. In Your House was fun for the time as well (rented it from Blockbuster a few times) but the AI got super tough. Warzone was a game changer for someone who didn't have a N64 for the AKI games and WCW vs. The World was never in stock around me. I had tons and tons of hours into that game and remember saving up money to buy Attitude from the mall when it came out. But yeah looking back, those were awful games.

I never got that far, but the tutorial stages are all the same quest ("do X Y times and then win") but the dialogue between them is entirely different; it's all about putting over the Junior division as unique and dynamic. Champion Road Beyond, meanwhile, is completely differenr--it was written by Suda51 as a sequel to the infamous Fire Pro 3 story where Ric Fl...I mean Dick Slender kills your tag partner and your hero commits suicide after winning the belt. It doesn't have the stat management, etc that the NJPW modes do, just a straight shot thru a series of matches with a story that isn't even Suda-level crazy.

The final match in the junior mode is Omega and I had a moment where he just went crazy spamming V triggers and snap dragon suplexes where I almost lost and I got a pin on a springboard moonsault because I got worried.

the Suda story is pretty good but yeah it's not super crazy or anything.

As far as 2k24, I had to open a service ticket with 2K to get my Gunther card since they swapped out the rewards but I got some extra VC from them because of it so that was fine. The Live Event you need the card for is a 6 man battle royale which is full of nonsense since you need to beat it 4 times to get every reward but it took me about an hour. I like MyFaction because it forces me to get familiar with other wrestlers that I normally wouldn't use and get an appreciation for their movesets. Like I love using Blair Davenport now because of the mode since she was my only good woman's card for the first 3 weeks until I beat the Showcase mode and got a Becky card from one of the weekly events.

Also, the voice actor for the men's My Player mode is awful. Who thought it was a good idea to keep that audio?

  7. Same with the No Mercy Mods. I kinda got the TNA vs. ROH mod from back in the day working but nothing past that. I have a mod downloaded that I couldn't figure out so it's just sitting on my PC. Insert old man yelling at cloud pic.

  8. I think Fight Forever kinda got the collision stuff down from the old AKI games, but yeah I know what you mean. FirePro is similar in that sense that big moves feel like big moves. 2K is kinda close but with the visible meters you pretty much know where you stand with taking down an opponent or if you're cooked.

Going back to 2K, I did the live event triple threat with Auska and Bianca to get the Sapphire Charlotte card and in my first attempt, the most WWE thing happened, Auska tossed Bianca out of the ring, I attack Auska and hit my finisher on her, BIanca gets back in the ring, hits a move on me which puts me in stun status, tosses me out of the ring and she hit her finisher on Auska and I can't get up in time to break up the pin. So I guess the gameplay is pretty realistic. 🤣

Winning the fantasy Rumble in Showcase gets you a bunch of Ruby and sapphire cards, other than that it's just Rise that has Faction card rewards (and those are all the fictional rivals from this year and prior years). As for the boss cards in Faction War, once you've beaten the 4v4 at the end of a stage those cards unlock in the Faction Wars shop, and can be bought permanently with the unique points from that mode (not MFP). Emerald are 3k, Sapphire 4 and Ruby 5. I've got enough to get a Ruby but am waiting to see how the run I'm in the middle of shakes out before I buy something that may not end up what I want.

Did the five bonus chars from the 40 Years pack unlock at launch or are they coming with the WM40 arena after Mania? Now that I've gotten all the Showcase stuff that buying that version unlocks I'm tempted to spring the extra $20 next paycheck but don't want to if I'm buying nothing today.

Are you referring to the Cody, Dusty, Pharaoh, and 2017 Rhea and Bianca cards? I don't really use Rhea and Bianca too much now since I picked up better cards but the Cody and Dusty are still in my lineup. Since I run strikers usually Pharaoh doesn't really work for my lineups, but it's a good manager card to have. Nice to have but not a necessity. I'll have to do a few more Faction War runs to get more points.

These free agent cards as rewards in the Tower mode of MyFaction are bullshit. Roman was one, given out as an apology FOR THE GAME DELETING YOUR DATA. Dakota Kai was the reward for Week 1. Karrion Kross is the Week 5 reward.

I had enough MFP to buy a Heat pack. What did I get? A bronze card that’s a CAW - which is another thing, for such low ratings those characters are WAY more tough than actual wrestlers. The triple threat in the first part of the Proving Ground? Bullshit. The little cruiserweight Kombucha was picking up OMOS for moves. I used Montez Ford to unlock Omos today and he was knocking me down on running attacks due to weight detection. Insane.

I like MyFaction as a replacement of 2K19’s Tower mode, but goddamn it’s pretty skummy sometimes.

I’m trying to evolve Bea to a Ruby card right now but there’s not even a lot of women’s matches, which is why I’m doing runs of Faction Wars. Which is much better this year due to the new tag rules. I’m in the middle of a run right now and had enough points saved up to unlock a Ruby card Charlotte which was nice.

How did you get a Roman? I didn't have a data deletion issue was it automatic or something?

I just kept replaying some of the easier proving grounds matches to evolve Blair and Waller.

And don't get me started on those CAWs in the first run. Silence is comically overpowered especially if you're trying to play on legendary to get the additional medal for more rewards.

Its sad, but I'm not really sure there are strong arguments for that being an incorrect train of thought. People prove to be dumb and/or ignorant so often just in general.

This plus the clip floating around online of Cardona/Maki Itoh with his low blows to her not working is an interesting contrast.

The monetization is SO much worse this year. I bought two packs with my match and challenge winnings, one from each of the 2 types available right now. I got a green Nash from the Legends set, which was cool because I needed a powerhouse. The Heat pack gave me a green Corbin, which would have been awesome if i hadn't bought a Corbin with the same overall rating with my first batch of token rewards literally 15 minutes before. As for basic v deluxe: the Deluxe packs give you a higher percentage chance of the "main" character card being better. If you press square on the item you're looking at, it'll tell you that you have a 100% chance of getting 1 character card and then the relative odds of having at least 1 of the other types, then if you press R2/RT it will show the odds for each rarity within that card type. I usually buy the Deluxe a couple times per set and then switch to regular, because if you just keep buying deluxe you're going to start getting duplicate cards that pay out in pitifully low numbers of Faction points.

In 22 and 23, I was able to enjoy this mode for months without spending any money. It feels like that's gonna be a lot harder this year. (It doesn't help that I picked Technician as the class for my starters, and while Nattie is progressing nicely toward her final form, Tyler Bate's submissions suck so hard that i may never even get his first level-up. Really wishing i had made literally any other choice)

I bought a pack from each series that's been released and it wasn't great but with initial packs having a Blair Davenport and a Grayson Waller that I was able to evolve from Emerald to Ruby has been a big help. On the men's side I got the Elite Cody and Dusty cards and the locker code for the Elite Cena so my men's lineup is decent right now. Women's side it ok with a Ruby Davenport, Ruby Becky and I got an Emerald Indi Hartwell from the token marketplace and the gold 2017 Bianca from the deluxe edition. And I have Sapphire free agent Karrion Kross and Dakota Kai cards if needed from the weekly towers. I'm trying to stick with strikers based on what's the easier playstyle with underpowered cards. That submission only tower was nasty though. I'd have to hit like 3 finishers then slap on a submission to have a chance.

With that said, I'm digging the Faction Wars, I just wish some of these cards you acquire during the runs you can keep. I picked up a Sapphire Trish and Eva and I'm like "Damn, these would be nice to have in the lineup."

I need to try out the other modes to get more cards eh?

  12. Got the Ruby Becky Lynch today. I'm wondering how this MyFaction mode will play out long term. The packs you can buy now are pretty garbage (I haven't gotten one decent card aside from a Gold Waller which didn't matter because I got an Emerald Waller that I was able to upgrade to a Ruby. Heck I got a Gold Santos manager card in a free pack from logging in 5 days this week. I'm also trying to figure out if buying the Deluxe pack is better than the standard pack too.

  13. Also for anyone that plays MyFaction, for those tiered rewards, do you have to do anything to get the rewards for the higher tiers or is it just RNG? I did the 6 woman tag match one with the Ruby Becky Lynch and got the lowest possible reward but I don't know if I need to do something different or if I just have to play a bunch of times to get it.

Also I've noticed there must be a mechanic that you can only breakup so many pinfalls in tag matches which makes those matches odd at the end.

It’s funny how salty so many people seem to be bout their rating this year.

Some of them are way different from last year. A lot of folks got downgraded (Theory and Waller stand out the most to me) and like Cliff Hanger said, the NXT main eventers are like 5-6 points lower than last year. Big E's downgrade is particularly egregious to me, the man is injured you can't just put him in the 70s for that!

  15. As someone who bought the super duper special ultimate edition, I have some MyFaction slots to unlock:

Someone between the Elite Cody Action Figure and Elton Prince

Someone between The Hurricane and Ilja

Someone between Seth and 2015 Seth so I'm guessing another Seth variant

Someone between Trick Williams and Triple H

The all have a MF indicator next to the slot. There are unlocked people for me with a SHC indicator (Andre, Bret Hart and '92 Bret are examples) so I assume they would come from the Showcase mode but they were available for me once the game unlocked for me last night. It was actually kinda cool to unlock guys after I played the showcase mode last year after holding off for so long so I assume there won't be extra guys for me to unlock after that.

And I can't see myself dumping money into MyFaction if there's only 4 people to unlock and they're most likely variants of existing wrestlers.

  16. Yeah, if you look at the actual NIL distribution it's like most of life, very top heavy so there were always going to be more guys who took the $600 and copy of the game than not.

Arch's PR person already tried to spin it and say he wanted to wait to become a starter before being in the game. Sure bud, that'll make a big difference.

  17. The model choices are always interesting in these games too. Like Josh Briggs has his usually jeans and plaid cutoff outfit but Brooks Jensen has his red shorts with stripes side and slick backed hair from his brief run with Kianna James last year.

I think playing back to back years in 10+ years for me helps with the mechanics for this game since there's a lot of stuff you can do. But I'm digging it again. Just gotta wait for the creators to fill out these rosters a bit.

Taking apart and cleaning my PS3 controller ended up taking a whole lot longer than previously expected but boy do I have a great understanding of the PS3 controller now. I feel like I need to start hording controllers for 10-15 years in the future when suddenly I find myself needing them.

I need to take a look at my PS5 controller since I'm noting some drift on the left analog stick.

  19. Finished up my NG+ of FF16 yesterday and got the Platinum in the process for my first PS5 Platinum. I enjoyed the 2nd playthrough and using the different abilities in all sections of the game. Getting the ability points to use different combinations of abilities with the Ikons was fun and my strategy changed a lot over the course of the playthrough based on if I was dealing with a boss/big stagger enemy or waves of lesser enemies.

  20. Working through my 2nd playthrough on FF16 on Final Fantasy mode. I'll actually platinum the game once I finish it which is rarity for me. Maybe I'll actually play FF7 Remake after. Or I'll be stuck playing 2k24 when it releases.
