  1. This PPV will be available for purchase on DISH after their agreement with the UFC was renewed.
  2. I am surprised that the International Boxing Hall of Fame hasn't done this. It's the best way to get in borderline fighters or perhaps guys who wouldn't be close but have nostalgic qualities. Anytime you start a hall of fame, you're going to start with pioneers and/or people who should no doubt be in. However, unless you have this amazing history or only choose a select few every year, it can only go down from there. It's very easy to go from great to very good to the Hall of Fame for good to semi-decent retired athletes. The boxing one in Canastota doesn't really have a depth issue or a bunch of questionable inductions, but we're getting into some murky territory now where a bunch of potential candidates held a tiny sliver of a world title or legitimate claim to one. I love Arturo Gatti. He had some downright amazing and brutal fights. I wish more boxers were like him. He truly lived up to his moniker. With that said, in no way was Arturo Gatti a Hall of Famer. He got utterly destroyed by every great fighter he faced. The thing is...he didn't face many. He went up in weight to fight Oscar back when Oscar was promoted by Univision. He got blew up into a thousand pieces. Then he fought and defended his cherry picked super lightweight title against Floyd and had zero chance of winning. Mayweather gave him one of the worst beatings I have ever seen in boxing. The thud from that one body shot to the kidneys Floyd landed in the final round before Buddy McGirt stopped it in the corner was sickening. You could have heard that even if the ring wasn't mic'd overhead. That's it for the best fighters he ever fought. The UFC Hall of Fame isn't an ultra, legit venue but it can provide discussion. The one thing, besides a glaring omission like Frank Shamrock, that it will be confronted with is that type of problem I've stated above. I love Matt Brown, but he shouldn't be in unless he has a hell of a career resurgence. However, I would not protest too much if you decide to put in Matt Brown vs. Fighter XYZ that got everyone talking. That way you can keep things clear and show the context between eras and watershed moments.
  3. I like that fight hopefully it gets finalized. No offense to Pennington, but Reneau is definitely a better matchup for Holm on paper in terms of entertainment.
  4. Jeff Blatnick is being inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame along w/ Matt Hughes vs. Frank Trigg 2. BTW, it looks like Bonnar has been moved to a "Fights" wing of the HOF for the first Griffin fight. A potential bout for the 7/15 San Diego card is Holly Holm vs. Marion Reneau.
  5. Dave Doyle ‏@davedoylemma 2m .@arielhelwani Reports Ovince Saint Preux vs. Glover Teixeira as main event for UFC Fight Night in Nashville.
  6. Yeah, I am guessing that is what they're hoping for because otherwise we could see some apple cart tipping. Speaking of young prospects, I was listening to Cheap Seats earlier today. According to Greg Savage, people at AKA are really talking up Islam Makhachev as the next guy up. Someone said he might be better than Khabib. That's a ton of pressure to put on someone.
  7. Its interesting that alot of the outrage has been about Sansa being a 'child'. While I understand the character is a certain age I cant help but look at the actress and think Sansa is in her mid 20's. How often do they actually state her age anyway? Its not like they keep telling us "She is the most beautiful 14 year old in Westeros" or something. I really don't even think about that anymore. You can look at in the Tyrion/Tywin light as someone above put it. However, I think Sansa has had a few fakeout Girl Power moments on the show over the last couple seasons that it kinda strained her character development. I do get what they're trying to spell out (even if it is heavy-handed), but it has been at the expense of moving her along. Sansa and Dany started out being these doe-eyed, ignorance-is-bliss characters from the very first episode. However, once Dany got out the gates, she did not slow down in her progression. The payoffs are just smaller because she is ultimately isolated from everyone else. We did get a recent "what the fuck am I doing" moment though with her trying to seek advice from Missandei. With the inclusion of Theon, they are just trying to show that Sansa is not immune from the consequences of getting too big for your britches. Theon had the bright idea of turning on the Starks and rejoining his house even though his father didn't want him. Yara kinda gave a shit, but not really at the same time. Now, we have Sansa's involvement with Littlefinger and how hastily arranged this Bolton marriage was. Even disregarding what Littlefinger is capable of, she saw at the dinner that Ramsay was a deranged lunatic. Then, she thought that Myranda was trying to encroach in on her territory and frighten her away, which subsequently led to the fake Girl Power moment during the bath. Instead of throwing every she said out (which could/should change after the last ep), she could have taken some of that into consideration and tried to delay/postpone her marriage to Ramsay to buy some time. Essentially, it is like Theon at Winterfell just without the bloodshed. Littlefinger is the one who pulled the mutiny. Sansa ignored all the signs in order to be something she isn't. Now, the device in the way to show that wasn't the greatest. But again, I see what they were trying to do so I wasn't all up in arms.
  8. Imagine if that was your new Ghostbusters team. It would take months to clean the projectile vomit in theaters during opening weekend.
  9. I heard Colby Covington's handlers wanted to bring him up slow. Well, Mike Pyle is a giant step up from a guy is basically .500 right now who washed out of TUF Brazil and random TUF China washout guy. This is like a boxing prospect going from fighting 4 rounders against dudes who install hardwood floors for a living to an ex title contender in their first ten rounder. Mike Pyle ain't a world beater, but he can still fuck your day up if you've never been at that level.
  10. I dunno if it's to that extreme, but I am willingly to say that is one of the reasons the scene there isn't as vibrant as ten or so years ago. I wish there was at least Dream or SRC around so young guys can get seasoning and decent pay at the same time.
  11. I actually had more of a problem with the Loras angle (and Shaggy Bronn/Scooby Jaime obviously) than Ramsay Bolton Semi-Consensual Sex Hour. I don't like how the Tyrells fell into that trap that easy. I know the little snippet before the opening credits gave it away, but you would think House Tyrell (well at least Lady Olenna) would be more calculated than that. You would think Margaery would be like, "You know what? My brother has fucked ALOT of dudes." Do they not know how trials work?
  12. So is the character called Tiger Lily White now?
  13. They just waltzed into that place in broad daylight, walked up to Myrcella in the company of a Dornishman with their lillywhite faces shining, and were like, "Um, hey." Honestly, this would have been a better disguise:
  14. That may be just David Ayer. Fury had a ton of stuff out during filming. Plus, there were the stories about Shia LeBouf and then Scott Eastwood almost got into a fight w/ Shia and Brad Pitt.
  15. My thought last night: "Are Bronn and Jaime trying to Scooby Doo their way into the Water Gardens? This should go swimmingly." All they needed was the door gag and everything would've been complete.
  16. I dunno where I would rate the first Gatti vs. Ward bout. It was a really great fight and did a ton for each guy's legacy. However, I don't really have the same emotional connection now as I do for other bouts of that magnitude. Some of it may be irrational, but I think that way HBO has made the entire trilogy a sacred cow kind of hurts it for me. They shit on Barrera-Morales II after the fact, but they made it sound like the one sided sequel to Gatti-Ward I was better than the original. I thought Jirov-Toney was better than the third fight that won RING Fight of the Year. The fact that Gatti left the way that he did only makes them want to force-feed the narrative that all three fights were tremendous even more. If I had to make a comp for a person who really wanted a quick Cliff Notes on boxing over the last 30 years, Gatti vs. Ward I would definitely be on there. However, knowing I only have limited room for rematches and the like, I am sure I can find better representation for followups.
  17. Eric Jackman ‏@NewYorkRic 23m23 minutes ago BREAKING: @jagatt tells @arielhelwani on #themmahour that she is no longer with WSOF and is now a free agent Would anyone consider her going to Invicta a step down?
  18. I'd expect him to get someone up there. The Lim fight and performance was good enough to earn that.

  20. To be completely honest, the crowd never got to the same level after the Munoz bout and retirement ceremony. The Mousasi fight was in the cool down spot. They tried to get back up for the main event, but there was nothing exciting enough to warrant the same reaction as the Munoz fight. That hurt the quality of the main event a bit. Hell, the Delos Reyes vs. Sangcha-an fight had more heat than the main and deservedly won the Fight of the Night. The problem was Faber showed probably too much respect to Edgar in the middle of the fight. A Urijah Faber without the threat to takedown, quickly submit, or catch someone with a good right hand is basically end-of-his-WEC featherweight run, improvising Urijah Faber. Yeah, that guy is going to lose every round to today's version of Frankie Edgar.
  21. It was fun for the first two and a half rounds. After the first couple rounds, you see the pattern developing. Edgar fought a good fight. Faber...not so much. He couldn't get Edgar down or catch him in a scramble so he really didn't have a plan past that.
