    2014 G1 Climax

I don't think that was Liger, but the Sawyer powerslam nod was awesome just the same. What is Tanahashi's injury (or injuries)? My friend, who rassles, said some of the ROH guys were telling him that Tana couldn't even sit down on a chair comfortably during his recent time in ROH. Sounds awful. Just finishing up day 6 and the high end stuff isn't anywhere near as good as last year's G1 matches but it's been solid nonetheless. Styles has really impressed me with his work in general and his heel persona. Very strong showing from him so far. Just once, though, I'd love to see somebody go for their finisher and hit it the first time. Just once.
  2. Nah, man, that's a time missing injury if ever there were one. Disgusting.
  3. I was fortunate enough to get Gary Hart's book right from the website. (I say 'fortunate' because apparently it's out of print and they sell for quite high prices on eBay.) It's really good. It was the first pro-wrestling book I ever read, so perhaps that plays into it as well, but it was highly entertaining, engrossing and educative. None of the other books I've read afterwards were as good by far, and they were still very good (Lou Thesz, Jody Hamilton and J.J. Dillon). Hart goes into details about angles, creating certain gimmicks, pay-offs, rivaling promitions, the entire Van Erich family... You can open it on any page and it remains as great as the first time. For a guy who was such a booking genius, you'd think he would've been smarter when it came to publishing an actual book. Seriously, how hard can it be to reprint this thing? He died before it was published. Oddly enough, Austin was berating the co-author, Philip Varriale, on the Christopher Daniels podcast saying he needs to get that shit out on Kindle and another print run. I'm with Roman, in that Hart's book is the best wrestling book I've read. I've heard some things since that call into question the validity of some of Gary's statements but it's still awesome. His stories of Jardine alone are worth the price of the book. Inside the ring, Hart made him sound like the Undertaker before the Undertaker was a thing (rope walk, super agile big man with a tough as nails persona) and outside the ring... let's just say you made sure you were on Don Jardine's good side.
  4. Apologies if previously posted, I couldn't see it in the last handful of pages.
  5. He was talking about good movie-licensed games after the SNES. I was a little confused at first too. NHL '94 is the shit and still one of the best sports games ever. I found NHL '96 too floaty and fast for my liking but some prefer it to '94 (heretics, I say). Did anybody else play the shit out of the gimmicky SNES games like Battle Clash with the Super Scope and Mario Paint with the mouse? Fun times! I also really enjoyed SimAnt but I imagine that would be best played on an old school PC emulator. Ah, and WWF Royal Rumble was a game I would literally pray to God that the local rental shop had a copy available every other weekend (this is how much of a heathen I was/am - I didn't go to church, was skeptical at age 8 of God's existence - but prayed super sincerely for a wrestling video game rental). Playing it now is awesome just for the sound effects alone. Final Fantasy III/VI is the best game of the generation in my opinion. Just incredible characters and sweet, sweet RPG gameplay. The strategy guide had the most bad ass art.
  6. So, my Canadian ass won't be able to watch it on my computer or playstation, instead I have to pay for a channel? Am I getting that right? Right now, I'm paying for the network and unblock-us, so I guess I'll continue to do that.
  7. Booth isn't bad. He was just getting back to form at the tail end of the last season after a string of terrible injuries (mostly coming from him training like a mad man). He's got poor vision, can't pass, and doesn't have a great shot but he will always put his head down and take the puck to the net. I would like to see some of his play from his Florida days when he was highly regarded as a player being held back by his situation and compare it to some of his Van play.
  8. I watched that last month and was impressed with Mero. It goes a little long and has some sloppy bits but overall a really fun match that highlights Mero's strengths.
  9. I was having them. I installed Adobe Flash for chrome manually, then typed "chrome://plugins/" into the address bar and disabled the flash player that says "PepperFlash" in the location (make sure to click on "details at the top to see which is which). It worked flawlessly after that. Very annoying though.
  10. I know the Austin-Ambrose parallels are getting overdone but I can't help but get a sense of '96-'97 Austin when watching Dean whoop ass. The above gif is akin to Austin sneaking up on Pillman before giving him a swirly. While I think Ambrose's personality has more Piper than Austin, the way he acts outside the accepted and normal parameters of WWE Superstar behaviour is just like what Austin did during that time period (and like Jrag said, the announcers need to be perplexed by his behaviour not supportive, remember Vince and Ross on Austin). Dean is so abnormal when juxtaposed with the rest of the roster he feels entirely special - because he is in the ways Piranesi has mentioned in the Raw threads. It's wonderful to watch and something that can't be done very often and you need a unique, weird kinda guy like Ambrose to pull it off.
  11. Yeah, I was waiting for Seth to yell "HE'S BITING ME! GET HIM OFF!" during one of the pull aparts. Missed opportunity. The Rusev/Swags feud should culminate with a flag match at SummerSlam.
  12. Um, wow! Detroit's new arena for the '17-'18 season. The drawings miss out on the stabbings and such but that is beautiful.
  13. You'd think they'd be able to see that sort of black and white thinking is what is causing so much turmoil in Palestine to begin with. As for the Borini sale, I like him, think he'll be a good player one day but I'd take 14m in a heartbeat for him. We're usually made mugs of in the transfer window but getting 21 million for Borini and Assaidi is a nice change, if only temporary. I'm sure Lucas, Agger, and Reina will be loaned out to Rafa again. I wonder if there's even a hint of truth in any of the Reus bullshit going around on twitter and the lesser papers. He's in a bit of a shitty place after trying to move to Barcelona, turning down United, and now without a suitor. I'm sure he'll be more than pleased with staying in Dortmund but that shit is kind of awkward.
  14. He's probably going to coach the national team. Edit: It would appear you're right on both accounts. Juventus losing players and likely the Italian job. Here's what he said about his departure:
  15. So, instead of grabbing a first line centre, Nashville gets three second line centres!
  16. McDermott looks heck of slow on the dribble but his release is so nice. Wiggins and Bennett have looked really good for the Cavs in their three games. Fuck the Kevin Love, keep the Wiggins! Or make Flip accept your dog shit Dion Waiters and draft picks. Wiggins has had some nice midrange game in the first two games. He just floats in the air and he has that ridiculous step (two steps from the three point line to the hoop!) and putback pounce. Look how casually he does a 360 behind the back dunk in warmups:
  17. I dunno. Hard to praise Riley when he had to max out Bosh and then get Deng. Granted a 2-year deal for Deng is reasonable for the Heat. Not sure what Deng was thinking in taking a short deal. Deng, Bosh, Wade, McBob, seems like maybe a 6-7 seed out East if Wade plays a few more games. I dunno...That would get killed out West. Dallas has to be sweating this now because if they don't get Parsons, they're down to Lance and not sure what else is available. How would a team with Lance and Monta operate? Like that would cause some sort of universal implosion shit.
  18. I looked at the link Bobby posted and the first link within the link (Hans Zimmer fart) has an image of her sitting beside a spotted cat.
  19. He sells differently more than a few times throughout the match, protecting his face, holding it after taking particularly hard strikes to his eye. I just watched the match again a few days ago and that's one of the things I noticed this time that I missed the first few times I'd watched the match.
  20. It certainly looks like a cheetah (though, it would appear some claim it to be a leopard) and they are listed as vulnerable by the IUCN Red List. Factory farms are disgusting, unethical, and incredibly damaging to the environment. You'll get no argument from me there.
  21. Wait, when is it decent to hunt endangered and vulnerable animals? That Spielberg pic is funny though.
  22. Yus. Surprised and a little disappointed at no YNWA reference, though. :/
  23. Mag 7 run-in in 5, 4, 3, 2...
