  1. When is Rashomon 2: Brawl Out dropping on Bleacher Report app?

Lots more details, backstage reactions to Punk/Elite Brawl Out
We've learned more about AEW Dynamite, the CM Punk/Elite situation, and more.

It comes as no surprise based on the content that unfolded on AEW Dynamite, but there were no explicit mentions of the situation or the parties involved in the Brawl Out 2022 situation permitted. This went for commentary, in promos, on social media or elsewhere.

In the days that have followed the recalling of the stories, those that have been in touch with CM Punk and Ace Steel have softened on the stance that the Young Bucks definitely kicked down the door. Instead, they've followed up with the idea that they could have kicked, shouldered or otherwise forced their way in. They said that "kicking the door down" was clearly a turn of phrase in that sense and should have clarified. The reason given was that Punk didn't feel like talking to anyone as he was either getting medical attention or had just been given it to take care of his cut. The side has also varied on what they've said caused Ace Steel to begin biting and throwing chairs, going from his wife being near, to him believing Kenny Omega was attacking CM Punk when he was trying to pull Punk off of one of the Young Bucks.

We have to reiterate, the accounts of the fight are wildly different from each side, and even different versions of each side, and shouldn't be taken as gospel. These are just what have been relayed to people close to them.

So far, talent haven't been told explicitly what is to become of CM Punk, but most of them we spoke with are under the impression that it's all pending an investigation. We spoke with numerous people on the staff and roster, who said that unless Punk's suspension is unpaid or he's fired, it's superficial considering he'll be out of action well into next year. As of Wednesday, much of the heat we're hearing on Punk was just as much about his scrum rant than anything. Punk had long been rubbing the locker room the wrong way, but one source said that blaming him for all of the locker room issues of late simply was not fair, as they had reached an all-time high when Punk was gone.

When we spoke to the AEW roster Wednesday, many indicated that after the show there was a much more positive vibe, with one saying it couldn't have been worse than the chaos of the previous days. That same source said that the situation was "out of sight, out of mind" for plenty of the roster who just wanted to show up and work. Another talent said the best way for all parties to make up the public embarrassment would be to get over the issues, make money for the company and highlight other talent along the way.

We're told that as of Tuesday, much of the roster didn't know what they were going to be allowed to say or if they could address it, and some of their content had to be adjusted accordingly. On Sunday, Fightful had reported that a top talent was set to take some time off, which Jon Moxley confirmed to be him. AEW sources had indicated that they'd planned on him being back by the Cincinnati show in October at least, but he ended up staying to help conduct a talent meeting, add star power to the show, and participate in the title tournament.

Kenny Omega, Christopher Daniels and Michael Nakazawa were all slated to be in Japan for Tokyo Game Show in relation to the AEW Fight Forever game. We haven't heard of them being pulled from that as of yet.

We've also heard the same as reported by Wrestling Observer that AEW Chief Legal Officer Megha Parekh was around for the situation as it unfolded.

Parekh being a witness is key and a good thing. Hopefully the investigation doesn't last long and they can begin to move on. Best case scenario is the one talent's take. Get over it, make money, elevate youngsters. I still think it's unlikely we see Punk again though. Maybe 6-8 months will help if he's still employed.

  2. I liked Meltzer's point in finding medium in listening to older generations in that some of the stuff they say will be outdated and not applicable, but some will be valuable and should be taken on. It's why the Regal line about not interacting with Page was interesting. If you can't find even something small to take away from Regal, you aren't the bright mind you think yourself to be.

AEW talent have heard Malakai Black granted conditional release

It looks like Malakai Black is effectively done with AEW for now.

Fightful Select reported last week that Malakai Black had asked for his AEW release in August, but that the request was not granted. AEW in an official capacity had told us the rumors that he was gone from the company weren't true, but it would seem they changed their stance.

Numerous talent informed is that they've been told that Malakai Black is done with the company for the foreseeable future, with many saying that he got his release. AEW sources claim that the release is highly conditional, which isn't usually the case for the company. Usually, AEW doesn't even release talent outside of disciplinary reasons, and requests for release are done on a case-by-case basis. We're told by many in the company that Tony Khan specifically wanted to retain Black, and hoped to see him as a part of the brand "for years to come." There were efforts to have conversations to salvage the working relationship that AEW believed were fruitful, however we're told that a meeting took place sometime recently and it was decided that if Black wanted out, they should probably allow it.

Black kissed goodbye and bowed to the AEW crowd after All Out.

Talent are of the belief that there are heavy restrictions on Black, and there may be more to the agreement, including conditions that would prevent him from wrestling elsewhere any time soon. Black withdrew from a September 9 indie show in Ohio, according to PWInsider. AEW sources told us that the door isn't closed on a potential return for Black as far as they've heard.

    Whole scoop from Fightful.

I said what I said before but just imagine being Garcia today.

Hometown. Career opponent. Title on the line. Just a couple of years ago in a life threatening car accident. In the middle of an angle with Jericho and Danielson, probably with a Jericho match ahead of you. Company that gave you all this on fire and you in one of the only announced matches and the one that was used to carry the town.

Oh yeah, and it just happens to be your 24th birthday.

I am really worried the match is spoiled by weird crowd atmosphere.

Clearly guys like Cody and Booker T also took offense when Punk tried to call himself a locker room leader.

A friend told me that story from Cody's appearance on jericho's show and I couldn't believe it. Who comes out and calls themself the locker room leader?! Did he get a little tin star to put on his chest too? Lmao. Booker's reaction was perfect.

MVP is tough, I’m going with Swerve because he did an amazing job of shifting to heel work both in terms of demeanor and offense to really put over The Acclaimed. Bowens might be co-MVP, he sold the fuck out of that knee which led to volcanic heat.

Swerve had a performance of a lifetime in that match. He drove the drama before the match and turned up the heat during. The slip off the second rope felt organic but if the point of the match was to make Bowens a super sympathetic face in peril, it had to have been planned, right? Omg is it a wherk or a shoot?! SRS save me!

  7. It's really not hard to see Punk's arrival either directly or indirectly leading to Cabana leaving the promotion. You really don't need leaks to put 2 and 2 together there. Pretty sure everybody here was thinking it could be a possibility. Think it was the Bucks that got him the ROH gig after the fact.

  8. How do you not take any action after you suspended Kingston for pie facing Guevara recently? Yeah, you got to fill Arthur Ashe but that would be brutal. Punk already showed zero respect for his employer for putting him in an incredibly awkward situation. If Khan asks him to move on, you think worked up Punk listens? If Khan shuts the scrum down you don't think Punk would just keep ranting off stream to the journalists?

Sapp, Meltzer, and Alvarez have all denied Elite guys leaking the Cabana rumours to them specifically and I believe Sapp was the one that broke that story. Maybe they were the ones that threw it out there among talent but they didn't leak it to those three.

  9. Latest from Fightful. More we hear, the likelier it sounds to me that Punk is done.

A ton of news, backstage reactions to Punk/Elite situation
The latest on CM Punk, Ace Steel, Young Bucks and Kenny Omega.

It was confirmed to us that Ace Steel bit Kenny Omega, CM Punk threw punches, and a chair hit Nick Jackson in the eye. However, there are conflicting views on who started it. Some we spoke with believed that Punk should have expected to be confronted after the things he said. Another person said that Omega and Young Bucks aggressively approached the locker room in what Punk could have construed as a 3-on-1 attack. We're told that the situation went on for "about six minutes," with Brandon Cutler, Christopher Daniels and Pat Buck trying to diffuse the situation.

Thus far, none of the roster or media we've reached out to have admitted to hearing from Tony Khan since the melee happened. We were told by another person high up in the company to not expect to hear much officially in the day that followed due to possible legal issues. Fightful heard back from Hoffman Estates Police Department, who said "Hoffman States Police Department does not have any police reports, nor any documentation that police were requested, during AEW All Out event for anything that allegedly occurred backstage. The only police response at the event was regarding a family issue in the audience."

Almost unanimously, the talent that we've spoken to haven't been in favor of the way CM Punk handled things at all that evening. Even talent that typically would back Punk up either said that's not what they would have done, or haven't commented to us.

We have heard the rumors of Punk sustaining an injury during the melee. The rumor has been echoed as "heard of" from people in the company, but we've not confirmed this.

There are several wrestlers who are not sure of their creative for Wednesday's AEW Dynamite as a result of this. Several longtime AEW stars said they don't understand how Punk couldn't be let go after this.

After we spoke on the Fightful post show about talent taking issue in the past about Hangman Page for working stiff, several readers tried to tie the two situations. We haven't heard of any connection, and we were told last year that Arn Anderson spoke with Page and let him know to lighten up. Page, even then, was generally well liked outside of that situation that saw a couple of wrestlers end up injured. We're told that wasn't connected to this, and that most thought Hangman Page and CM Punk got along well until this Spring.

There is some sympathy as it relates to MJF's return for some, but everyone was generally left in the dark regarding MJF's status for months and said it mirrored that of Punk winning the title in Vegas, and Wardlow beating him, but everyone speaking about MJF. Those we spoke to had not heard of any heat between MJF and Punk prior to Punk basically mentioning MJF as one of the stubborn kids he had to work with.

Re: Fish, he filmed himself giving groceries to a homeless person to put himself over. That is scumbag material and a huge red flag so nothing surprised me after that.

  10. Fightful sharing what WWE talent have to say. Interesting stuff and less the Nelson Muntz response I was expecting:

Reactions from WWE staff and talent for
CM Punk's media scrum caught the attention of EVPs in AEW, but also wrestlers around the industry.

There were numerous WWE talent that reached out to Fightful to get the notes of what all went down, as well as details behind the skirmish at AEW All Out. A top WWE star said that they believe that the CM Punk that they knew years ago is being highlighted.

Another WWE talent said that if it was a work, it was one of the most elaborate works they've ever seen. A third talent said much of the same -- "If this Punk press scrum thing is a work.. bravo." Both had contacted Fightful before Raw and said that they learned individually it wasn't a work, and expressed surprise that it even happened. There was confusion from both of those as to why Tony Khan would not comment in the follow up about Punk bashing the EVPs and not providing clarity regarding the people who launched the company with him.

"You can't expect a lot of people here to have a lot of positive things to say about Punk, and I think he's aware of that and has probably come to peace with it," one talent who worked with Punk in the past said. "I feel like he's trying to run things there, and it looks like he's doing it."

Another longtime main eventer told us that they considered Punk's actions unprofessional, and don't believe he's the company man or leader that he made himself out to be. That same person would call Punk "selfish and arrogant." This sentiment was echoed by several we spoke to, including some talent that worked on set with Punk at FOX.

A WWE official said that they agreed with Tony Khan that wrestlers not liking each other wasn't bad for wrestling, but said that in situations like Punk and the Elite's, that power had to be asserted in order to let everyone know that wasn't tolerable. The same official said that kind of thing didn't happen as often recently in WWE -- except for the likes of Chris Jericho and Brock Lesnar -- because talent knew that if they did that while Vince McMahon was there, they probably weren't going to be welcomed back. With situations where it did happen, like Alberto Del Rio, they were fired.

Another top WWE name told us that if the parties involved don't put their issues aside and make money with it that "none of them have business talking about drawing houses or losing fans or interest. They have a good show but this is still the biggest piece of business they've done and they have to capitalize."

We'll have more on this story as we get more info.

So they are saying they've heard (presumably from friends in aew) that it is not a work. They're right for calling out Khan for not stepping in but I get the feeling he doesn't want to offend Punk-sama and risk things getting awkward in the public eye.

100% agree with the last statement too. This could be something that brings AEW to the next level I was just saying was likely impossible.

  11. If I'm Khan, I'm immediately pivoting to Punk and company vs. The Elite. They gotta do whatever they're doing w MJF ASAP before this dies down.

Grand Slam is the 21st. That feels like an eternity, which is why these worked shoots or harnessing shoots into works is tough with twitter. It'll be old news by then.
