Are we that sure that The Elite go over here?

It seems like a terrible booking move. We've made it very clear that Kenny is back too soon and isn't at 100%. Kenny vs Ospreay is a money match, which becomes a nothing match if a shell of his former self Kenny goes over Ospreay. Ospreay beating the still injured Omega, and crowing about it as if it was at his prime, and then not coming back to AEW for months after adds to the build to that one in a big way. Even more so if Callis turns on Omega and sides with Ospreay, or you have Undisputed Elite come out and cost them the match.

I mean for that very reason, I'm sure it'll be one of the Bucks getting the pin on Aussie Open, which feels very underwhelming in the scheme of things.

Aussie Open/Ospreay vs Dark Order/Hangman finals with the Bucks or Omega helping Hangman get the win creates far more stories and intrigue.

I addressed the above in how you book the Elite to win while keeping money in Ospreay vs. Omega. Bucks have to carry Omega after Ospreay kicks his ass and they take out Aussie Open.

  2. She has very clearly called out people she's in the ring with on TV, so it's not shocking. I just looked up why Baker was trending and omg the reaction to her on there is hilarious. "FEMALE HULK HOGAN!" TOXIC!" "BURIES ANYBODY SHE SEES AS BEING PUSHED OVER HER!" Like, come on. I laughed at the one tweet joking Britt has shooters. ?

Maybe Rosa would get more promo time if she wasn't average at best on the mic. I don't know what happened but she used to be the shits in the ring and incredible in backstage pre-tapes as Kobra Moon, then she improved in the ring and now she's regressed across the board. Even pre-taped promos aren't doing anything for me. Such a strange career trajectory. Maybe she comes back as the best wrestler in the world when she's healthy.  Who the fuck knows at this point?

As for All Out, I mean, I'd belt Hayter but that's not happening, so I guess you run with Hayter or Britt costing the other and Storm taking advantage. That sets up two programs with Hayter/Baker tension and Storm defending like Moxley did until Rosa comes back.

    AEW drama of the day.

  3. Feel like Dark Order/Elite final was the likeliest outcome based on the Bucks/Hangmin interactions. They did a good job of planting some doubt with Page saying he's just supporting though. They're also doing a good job of playing up Omega's health questions. Bucks will have to carry him past the next round probably taking out one of the Aussie Open guys after Ospreay outduels not 100% Kenny.

Black, Andrade, and Pac feel like they've been in their own little universe forever and now Miro joined the club after his TNT title run. It'd be cool if those four were featured more prominently. Black with his back issues I get it... Pac is still based out of Newcastle, right? The Atlantic title deal is a nice touch for that. But are there any travel issues still? Andrade's booking is, as previously stated, beyond me, and Miro has done jack shit since dropping the title. Let's get them big boys going! All four of them should be constantly in a title hunt of one kind or another.

I haven't been watching whole episodes of Rampage and the reactions to this episode certainly aren't enticing me to even flip through it. Yikes. While I love Dustin, I haven't been a big fan of his recent outings the past 6 months or so. Hopefully this turn or whatever it is they're planning with him helps give him some juice for perhaps a final run.

Are Cole, Fish, and O'Riley all injured? It seems like they should be interfering in one of the trios matches or at least making their presence known as contenders at some point.

Cole and KOR are, yeah. Fish is fine and keeping himself busy by milking dry his one good joke about shitty CM Punk kicks.

  5. Update (read in the Gene Okerlund voice from WWF "UPDATE" segments of the late '80s/early '90s) on WBD and AEW:

    Quote

AEW-Warner Bros. Discovery News: One Hour? Language? RELATIONSHIPS!?
Fightful/Grapsody's Will Washington has learned some significant details around the relationship between Warner Bros. Discovery and All Elite Wrestling.

A source inside Warner Bros. Discovery talked to us briefly about their current relationship with AEW and noted that while they still have a significant amount of time left on their contract, AEW programming in its current form "makes no negative waves" and overall holds up their end of the deal quite well, particularly when it comes to ratings performance.

Both sides talked about how pleased they were with the House of the Dragon and Shark Week integrations during AEW's summer programming, noting how those are two of the most important properties in the Warner Bros. Discovery wheelhouse and there was a high level of trust in having AEW handle them.

Regarding some of the rumors on social media about upcoming changes to AEW programming, including one about Dynamite being cut to an hour, WBD was completely unaware of the rumors while AEW officials knew of their circulation, but both assured us that they were false. It was stressed to us that the notion of the two sides having an adversarial relationship at all is not accurate, as the two sides meet frequently to discuss AEW programming.

The Wrestling Observer Newsletter today noted that word had come from Warner Bros Discovery that they'd like the language toned down. AEW tells us that they believe this was a quote taken out of context from the all talent meeting on Wednesday regarding promos and talent going into business for themselves. The point was to stress that they could get network heat if they "fly too close to the sun" but we're told this was not an edict from the network.

"Makes no negative waves" seems like a gross underselling of AEW delivering good ratings especially relative to other sports/wrestling tv contracts.

Yeah. I was watching the cage match against Jericho from 2000 a couple of years back and thought to myself: "Why on earth were people shitting on X-Pac at one point again?"

He takes multiple brutal bumps in that, gets injured, but still makes sure to take the lion tamer on top of the cage. Guy was a champ.

  7. Don't think the signings from the last 6 months or so will be in. Id be surprised if anybody past All Out from last year makes it in before DLC starts dropping.

Edit: free and paid DLC were confirmed during the stream. They said in the past that they didn't want this to be a yearly release so DLC was always likely to keep it at least somewhat updated. I wonder if they'll get real ambitious and add things like features and modes not originally included or if all that is saved for a sequel if that's viable.

  8. Fightful update on the Thunder Rosa situation:

    Quote

Thunder Rosa-Jamie Hayter Heat, More on Thunder Rosa's injury
Thunder Rosa isn't competing at All Out, and has heat with a significant portion of the people that are, sources tell Fightful.

Fightful can confirm Voices of Wrestling's report that indicates that Britt Baker and Thunder Rosa can't stand each other, with that having been the case for well over a year. Still, the two attempted to remain professional and work with each other, and from what we're told remain open to doing so for the sake of simply doing their jobs. However, Jamie Hayter also had developed heat with Rosa after she got her nose broken in a match recently. Much of the heat on Rosa has emerged from her working stiff in the ring.

Word emerged shortly before Dynamite that Thunder Rosa was injured, and wouldn't be competing at All Out. Fightful Select had gained word that the original plan was for Toni Storm to emerge victorious and win the AEW Women's Title. Now, she'll compete for the Interim AEW Women's Title against Hikaru Shida, Dr. Britt Baker DMD and Jamie Hayter. We've not learned of the creative plans set for the title since.

We've had talent contact us on both sides of things regarding Rosa, with many saying that she's worked hard to help get other young women's talent booked, and others that perceive her as developing an ego and being difficult to work with. Those that we've talked to who work with her at Mission Pro Wrestling have had positive things to say about her leadership when she's around.

We've been unable to confirm their reports that Thunder Rosa hid in a bathroom after the Jamie Hayter spot. Rosa is said to have been injured, but the actual injury is unknown, speculated to be related to bulging discs. The extent of the injury isn't known, but it isn't a kayfabe situation by the company.

We've reached out to Rosa but haven't heard back.

She was calling out Shida iirc during their first match on PPV saying something very audibly "are you going to work with me?!" out of frustration. Fast forward and she sandbags and stiffs people (and it's not like it even looks good outside of the dropkicks).

    Nyu-nyu-nyuzu update! Latest on Kingston/Guevara:

    Quote

What happened with Sammy Guevara and Eddie Kingston, Eddie comments
In an update, we've learned much more about the situation between Eddie Kingston and Sammy Guevara.

We're told that Eddie Kingston was mad because Sammy Guevara hadn't spoken with Eddie or cleared the content of a promo that ended up being edited off a show. The two had not conversed since the Blood and Guts show where Kingston threw Sammy Guevara off of the cage. We've heard that Kingston had asked to work with Sammy, who didn't have people exactly angling to work with him, after his feud with Scorpio Sky and Ethan Page.

Those that we spoke to said there were some pretty clear parameters set on Sammy Guevara feuds and promos to not mention his ex-fiancee, which we're told has never come up or been pitched anyway. The original plan was for Eddie Kingston to win the All Out match. In the edited out promo, Sammy Guevara referred to Kingston as a "fat piece of shit," which Kingston took exception to as he felt it buried the match if a "fat piece of shit" beat him. The crux of the frustration, however, was how Sammy Guevara followed up with this after being perceived as difficult working with Scorpio Sky, Ethan Page and Sonjay Dutt in the months prior.

After that, we're told that Kingston had yelled at Sammy Guevara, who smiled at him. Kingston responded by pie facing Guevara. Sammy ended up being incredibly unhappy with this and Kingston was suspended for two weeks.

We were able to reach out to Eddie Kingston, who wouldn't confirm the recounting of events, but said "I was wrong. That is all."

Again, Kingston did nothing wrong. This sounds like a scorpion and the frog scenario lmao.

Also probably not happy about JR saying Osprey needs to sign with AEW on the air.

Just as Tony is telling wwe to fuck off for tampering.

I think the Omega and Ospreay story plays on Kenny's bitterness towards njpw and if it's not that then I don't think he really cares. My guess is he loses to Ospreay at the Tokyo Dome and wins a rematch in the US later.

Unless you're leaving the World champion off the card, that's all they've really got for a main event World title match.

It's not Hangman. Jericho is busy. Kingston is suspended (or just finished it, but either way). Danielson is busy. New Japan guys, on a 4 day notice assuming it's announced next week and not before then? lol, MJF makes even less sense than Punk. I'm not a booker, I play EWR but I eventually get fired most of the time. I'm not pretending to know how the story is going to turn out, but I'm here for the ride. But I still think that's where they're going.

All the people that were quick to back up Meltzer's reporting about Punk/Hangman last week are now not backing up his reporting about Punk/Mox 2. Weird.

Make it make sense. How in kayfabe terms does Punk making a miraculous turnaround hold any water? Why should i be interested in that rematch right now? This feels like boxers with auto rematch clauses calling for an immediate rematch after getting demolished.

You know how people propose maybe Ross be brought in for big matches to add gravitas?  Maybe the opposite should apply here, where he gets to sit out trios division matches.  For his health and well being.

"Three men in the ring at the same time, huh?..." that shit cracks me up to this day.
