That being said, I would blur the face/heel lines with MJF - one week he attacks a babyface like Dustin Rhodes, the next week its a heel like Bobby Fish.

The only standout thing about MJF is his full-time commitment to being a chickenshit asshole heel. Otherwise, he's a talented guy on a roster of incredibly talented guys.

For whatever reason, it is this that represents to me the creative nadir of this era of pro wrestling in America.

There are a lot of awful things that happened during this era, many arguably more awful than this. There's just something about Vince Russo calling a teenage girl a bitch as he chases her around the ring in a pathetic attempt to be edgy that really grinds my gears.

in 2000/2001, I would watch PPVs with some friends who had their cable box hacked to get free PPVs. And yet, I don't recall this one at all and am wondering if by this time we just gave up on WCW PPVs entirely.

  3. Mostly loved the opening match. Did you hear the pop for the Acclaimed? That said, Caster might have a couple weeks off again to think about ridiculing abuse victims. Dax Harwood was a fantastic FIP tonight.

I spoke my piece on MJF. I think there is a point to the AEW originals-NXT imports feud, hell Adam Page was working the same angle literally last week. That said, MJF is one of their most protected guys, someone who rarely even wrestles outside of a PPV.

MIRO!!! I've been meaning to make the joke that all those "Miro" commercials that don't make any sense as a product were secretly meant as a reminder about Miro being on the roster. His promo was great, match had moments but honestly should have been a total squash IMO.

2.0 all scarred up. Kingston taking a beating so Ortiz could jump Jericho and cut the hair. Amazing that after Anarchy in the Arena they can keep this going into an even more violent match and yet here we are and I am ready.

10-man was fine, add me to the list of those not excited about what now seems inevitably the Bucks being the ones to finally beat JE for the titles.

I'm not a fan of the "Swerve in the Glory" name, and wondering what's next for them.

Was disappointed that Wardlow didn't have his new theme music, but that was a fine squash and the post-match angle with Smart Mark and the class action lawsuit on behalf of security is fucking brilliant. Still, feels like all the BS this past weekend took a lot of shine off Wardlow's big moment.

Womens's tag match was fantastic, great back and forth action, very hard-hitting. Glad that Ruby got her win back, but OF COURSE DMD immediately got her heat back. Ready for more Storm-Hayter.

Main event is a strong contender for best of 2022 list. I can't recall who compared Garcia to The Terminator but spot on, dude just kept coming after Mox and laying it in. Busting open Mox's stitches with headbutts is old school (but also, less headbutts please). Forcing the ref to untangle the Figure 4 on a rope break is old school. This is clearly part of a long-term story where Garcia realizes that his natural place is in BCC, and it's going to be a brutal, bloody trip getting there.

Grabbed this on wax. What an incredible, essential batch of songs from such an incredible, essential group. They play every different genre under the sun but it always sounds like Big Boys.

Even though I first heard them on a couple of comps back in the 80s, I didn't get into them until after I moved to Austin and learned more about them, plus seeing Tim in garage rock bands and getting to know him as a friend. I love that they just played what they wanted to play. My current fave is "Your Money's in our Hands", taunting the frat boys who used to go to their shows to start fights.

Light in the Attic did a huge reissue of back in 2015 of "Lullabies" and "No Matter How Long", and before that of "Where's My Towel/Industry Standard", but those are all sold out now. My friend Timmy also did a reissue of the "Fun Fun Fun" ep back in 2013, and I also have an original of that. I have one of the 2012 Gern Blandsten reissues of Wreck Collection, and a copy of the Live at Rauls single.

I'm actually pretty close to being a completist on all of Tim's projects, excluding all the various compilations the Big Boys were on.

There's no need to overcomplicate a fried ring of dough covered in a sugar glaze, tbh.

(She says, as she hasn't been to Country Style Donuts in months and had been contemplating making a trip last weekend.)

My favorite is the simple cake donut, maybe with some cinnamon sugar if I'm feeling sassy.

I felt like it was verging on overkill, to be honest. It was starting to veer into that Bret Hart vs. McMahon match from years back, where the protracted beatdown was resulting in diminishing returns.

I actually felt the same. I guess they used the stretcher job to give MJF a break, but to me that almost made him a sympathetic figure.

As we all saw from Coach Tonys 2 am ranting last night, sometimes DVDVR posters can be impassioned. I wasn't implying that you were sullying my good name in any way. I just know I can come on strong and it's good to mention the disclaimer now and again. As always, you are a scholar and a goofball, but at least you're a scholar.

I'd be interested in Page fighting a number of guys next. Probably top on that list is Malachai Black, which seems to write itself both in and outside the ring.

I’m interested in seeing Black, Brodie, and Pac fighting other people for a while.

Maybe they can do something with Page saving his former Dark Order buddies from a House of Black beat down.

  8. Saw this Saturday. Had successfully avoided almost all spoilers (only one I had was Kracinski, and had hints at PStew).

Really liked it, a lot better than the first and I’m glad they limited the amount of Escher magic moments. I forgot that it was Raimi until Bruce Campbell cameo. I say let John Carpenter have a whack at the MCU too, go full body horror.

Glad they gave Wanda her moment of redemption at the end, but felt very bad for her and all the loss that she’s suffered leading her to where she was.

I don’t know anything about America Chavez but I liked her LABTQIA pin and “amor is amor” on her jacket.

So, we’re going to get a new Fantastic Four, and the 90s X-Men cartoon is now canon on Earth 838?

  9. I’m thinking today that most of my quibbles are with the booking. It’s like they’re telling great stories for the most part, but the ending sometimes don’t make sense or fall flat.

Its clear that Cole and Baker got the Owens as their consolation prizes for putting over Page/Rosa. Whether those were the best choices, we shall see, most people here seem very dissatisfied. I knew Britt was going to win by her demeanor going in. I think HarryArchieGus pointed out how awkward it was having two heels standing there being nice for 15 minutes during the ceremony. In the end, no one was really elevated by that tournament.

The TNT title needs a hard reset. Total mess of an angle, seemingly designed to be the showcase for an MMA star.

They do a perfect set up for Stat-Jade but instead bring in yet another new person. Did they really need that?

For weeks, they tease Christian turning on JE, and instead they retain in a match where the other teams are more interesting and talented.

I don’t see what Jake Hager adds to a match. He was absent from that fight, but damned if 2.0 didn’t go all out to make that match special.

I feel like I’m complaining too much. I enjoyed it all for the most part, but today all I’m thinking about are the things above.

I agree and disagree.  This is a pretty loaded tag division full of teams that are better than Jurassic Express, but at a certain point you need to get more teams over to keep the division fresh.  I don't mind their run, because they've had good matches, but I would have been perfectly fine with either of the other teams winning.  The problem is that neither of those teams should be champions right now either.  FTR is the best tag team on the roster.  The Young Bucks, ReDragon, and The Lucha Bros also feel like they should be always be in title contention.  Then you have Santana and Ortiz and 2.0 who seem like they are always lost in the shuffle of somebody else's story when they probably should be competing in tag matches.  It really feels like they just decided to give Jurassic Express a run, but didn't think about how to make us believe in them as one of the top teams.  They keep putting them in these multi-team matches, which are good, but do nothing to make them feel like dominant champions.  They need to feud with either FTR, The Young Bucks, or ReDragon and win the feud...then drop the straps to put the next team over.

Or, hear me out, feud with FTR and lose and then decide if they want Stricklee Business, Team FTW and the others be legit contenders because those would be good matches, along with Proud and Powerful, Cool Daddy, etc. But no more Lucha Brothers, I’m done with them as much as JE.

  11. I think Darby-O’Reilly stole match of the night, even though I think Darby won’t remember much of that match.

I marked out for Rancid. But once I saw Britt’s demeanor, I knew she was winning.

It was a long night and I enjoyed a 6-pack of IPAs so I’ll try again with thoughts tomorrow. I certainly got my money’s worth time wise.

  12. I think a lot of people have had some kind of slip that ends up hurting the tailbone so we can appreciate the atomic drop/Manhattan drop, and the reaction thereof. Rick Rude will always be the best, but there’s also something to be said for the subtle subtle cringe where you are just motionless for a minute.
