  1. I found it a little funny that they announced that “Tony Khan has made it official: Julia Hart will defend her title against Willow Nightengale at Dynasty” when that was the announced stipulation for the match AND Willow won clean.

Yeah, all this.  I’m sincerely holding out hope that she’s incredible in the ring, because everything she’s done so far just feels inauthentic and dull.  When the person working a supernatural spooky witch gimmick feels more like a fully realized human being than you do, something is terribly wrong.

I liked her debut appearance, but I think she needs to have some of the WWE deprogrammed from her. And while I think she is an important addition, having her be the focus of a title angle that she isn’t actually participating in, when she hasn’t even wrestled a match in the company, is a little insulting to the existing talent.

  3. Great show. I get some of the criticisms that others have posted, but some of them are based on perceptions of what wrestling is/should be that I don’t necessarily share.

Shibata-Ospreay started off grappling. Maybe not everything was 100%, but it was a great way to start a long match and also ties into their long-term storyline. Ospreay still can’t beat Shibata on the mat, so it’s going to be a slug fest. At the same time, Ospreay can’t take too many high risks, because one slight mistake and he’s tapping. Sure, we had the AEW strike exchanges, but they fit in a match between two guys whose main work has been in Japan. Only part I thought was excessive was Ospreay’s “fighting spirit” Kip-up into a spinning round kick.

The EVP Bucks wrestling a slightly different style has my attention. They made Private Party look way better than I think they actually are. The Bucks also botched their signature move. They better not win the tournament.

Dustin’s makeup looks scary and his big round eyes made it look like he was legit missing his eye area other than his eyeball on the left side. Butcher is weird and funny. I looked up the word for “meat” in French and it’s weird so let’s assume the crowd chants “bouef”.

Danielson vignette was great. His match at Dynasty is going to be face-face though at this rate.

Women’s 4-way, like all multi-person matches, had some excellent moments when it was 1 on 1 and a lot of standing/lying around. Willow-Skye really pair well together, once again Willow makes the Code Blue look smooth AF, while Skye takes a nasty apron bump (which did a good job of having her outside for the finish). My main complaint was Mercedes. She added nothing on commentary, and every single woman in the ring, and Julia afterward, made her their focus of attention. I’m about to start calling her Mercedes Pooche. Anyway, assuming Willow wins Dynasty and loses to Mercedes either at a PPV or next big Dynamite after, and the belt gets Jaded.

I did not expect to see Best Friends win, just assumed that Kingdom would keep going as part of the rickety Undisputed storyline. Trent looked great. I like the idea of Orange Cassidy realizing that he really likes being a champion, and now he also has the chance to be a champion with one of his friends.

As for the main event: Swerve is on a heater, and is destined for the championship, and it needs to be soon...BUT...Takeshita deserved that win. It’s very fair to say that this one has too many kick outs of big moves (although at least not a top rope blue Thunder bomb this time). I think both guys were winded at the end, and maybe one or both were a little fuzzy (Takeshita got his fucking head stomped on the ring apron), and things ended a little shaky/slow. Let Takeshita take the Continental title off Strong and have a fun run with it.

The crowd seemed to be pretty hot/warm for being a crowd in a market with a lot of people who don’t speak English, so they did a pretty solid job with Quebec City than they did with places like suburban Salt Lake City

I have to say, it would’ve been a nIce touch to have someone in the ring with Justin Roberts introducing the main event in the bastard French they speak. I assume Papa Magie is on Rampage, maybe he could’ve done it.

Plus, in the 70s and 80s, an American performer could probably perform in Sun City without it getting much attention at home. Similar to them making commercials in Japan. Almost no one in America saw Sean Connery doing Japanese tire commercials.

id bet most Americans didn’t even know what or where Sun City was until the music video.

(And now this will be stuck in my head all day)

There are some pretty solid songs on the album, I had it on cassette back in the day.

MCMG could also potentially help out the younger teams in AEW and ROH. I would think there's a place for them on almost any roster right now. Veterans who can still tear it up in the ring.

That’s a good point, although at some point they need to actually push the youngsters instead of giving them hope matches.

  7. Seeing some people on Bluesky advocating for AEW to sign Motor City Machine Guns. I’ve liked their work that I’ve seen over the years (hate their theme song though). But also I feel like the fact I’ve been seeing their work since the early 2000s is a big point against them, especially with the style they wrestle. Then again, they’re both in their very early 40s. Given the already very full roster, I’m not sure if I’d sign them.

I'm only offended that I can't seem to segue this thread into a discussion of robot gods in pop culture.

To me, Primus is a winter weizenbock from Live Oak brewing in Austin that was one of my wife’s and my favorite seasonal beers. It definitely doesn’t suck.

  9. I liked the I Quit match a lot, the hockey fight bit was a little corny but also really funny and awesome and the crowd loved it. There were obvious callbacks to their past. I also think that the longer term storyline will be that Cope just couldn’t bring himself to totally maim his friend.

Having this and the Street Fight on the same card could have been tough but the women delivered some great moments. Willow once again shows that she takes a Code Blue better than anyone, this time on an announcers table that does not give an inch. Ouch! Skye blades without going full crimson mask. We get tacks and some nasty but not gnarly bumps. Loved how you could totally see Skye’s pride at receiving the “You Sick Fuck” chants.

Kingston-Okada was great but also sad in the end result, but effective in the longer run.

I thought Hook-Jericho was excessive and was worried about Jericho’s neck on several of those bumps.

Surprised a little at Best Friends going over. I thought they might actually give OC some time off.

Takeshita-Rocky was fun until the end. Shibata in a squash was weird in the sense that I’m used to the Japanese legend AEW guys only having big matchups.

The opening felt very WWE to me, the promo seemed heavily scripted towards catchphrases, and the song is going to wear thin quickly.

The Tonis vs. VirtuRosa was solid but never quite excellent. Rosa was best bumping and selling, her offense wasn’t as crisp as the rest of them. I also was proven wrong in my discussion of AEW seeing Toni as a face, as this match tried very hard to make them the heels. The fans ain’t buying it, and we did get seeds of a full Deonna turn at the end.

Most ECW guys would've been pretty comfortable in the '93 Phillies locker room. Dykstra probably did as much coke and pills as any of them. And they were so into Zubaz pants, local McDonald's literally ran a Phillies Zubaz glass promotion...

I did not need to know that Phillies Zubaz promotional glasses existed...

Sometimes I feel like it's very obvious who came here and felt at home after reading the DVDVR Crew's writings, and who's here for just another lame-ass wrestling forum.

What about people who date back to RSPW, before there was even RSPW-M?

  12. What I love about AEW is that we can get 2020s bombs away MOVEZ bangers like Ospreay-Takeshita and also sicko shit like Danielson-Shibata spending 10 minutes on the mat before chopping each other silly.

Who the hell did BCC piss off to have to feud with the fucking Righteous and Archer (who has kinda sucked for a while now). Not in the tag tournament and having to see for the team that MJF beat singlehandedly. Also why is Yuta suddenly gone?

I was really into O’Reilly and Keith, was interesting to see Keith work more as the dominant guy rather than the underdog. KOR might have the eye bags from hell but he’s trimmed up some from his last appearances. I like him, please keep him away from Undisputed.

Julia-Adora was good, Julia was forced to do a lot more hit and run fitting for her size, took some bumps, and she nailed the moonsault.

Main event tag was pretty fucking awful, I called Briscoe getting Infantry an upset win the second the brackets were posted.

Garcia-Moriarty was a good look at the bright future of AEW. Also, Garcia was ROH Pure champion, so he’s had gold around the waist.

Cope looked like he was going to blow an artery near the end of his promo, he was turning purple. Also thought he had cut himself with Spike when he first put it to his temple (and maybe he should’ve to really get it across). Spike is a very Canadian name, for all those DeGrassi junior high fans.

Wednesday is once again practically a PPV with the live Rampage after Dynamite. Really excited for both women’s tag matches, Kingston-Okada, and the I Quit match.
