The more I think about the more he's probably turned into my favourite wrestler of all time. 88-93 he is faultless IMO. I've always wondered about the story about Flair planning to drop the title to him in 91 though. It's a sore point with Barry but I've never understood how it was ever planned - Windham was in the Horsemen and there was never any disension teased so how were they ever going to go into a programme for him to drop the title? He raises an interesting point in his RF shoot though - they ask him who he thinks is the most overrated person in the biz is and he answers with himself. He took a lot of breaks and time off over the years, saw his chance come and go and never got motivated after that.

Yeah man, you had Eubank dodging everyone and taking nothing fights then pulling out gutsy performances when it mattered, Michael Watson being a legit threat in the MW division (and as horrific as what happened to him is, his fight with Eubank is amazing to this day), Benn just being glorious to watch but inconsistent in his performances, Steve Collins appearing out of nowhere and the rise of Joe Calzaghe. Then in the background there's arguably the most dodged boxer in boxing's history - the great Herol Graham - constantly trying to get a world title fight.

just watched The Ultimate Warrior tribute on Raw, the amount of revisionism that has gone on since his death is kinda weird as I always remember him being universally slated - I loved him for the energy and excitement he'd always bring, didn't matter too much about how many * his match was. Anyway, my prevailing memory of Warrior and his legacy is funny, special, and doesn't involve him personally but figured I'd share it. I was in my second year of college and was hanging out an awful lot with the peeps on the Art Foundation class. One day one of the guys in the class found loads of old illuminous pink and green fabric... so he of course tied them round his arms and legs and painted his face like Ultimate Warrior. He then went a step further by sprinting through the common area doing the gorilla press motion and breathing heavy. Everyone was kinda dumbfounded/ignored it apart from one lad who stood up, pointed, and said rather meekly "It's the Ultimate Warrior!" That made my week. RIP

Probably my favourite boxing book. I'd read about the fights and then go and watch em on youtube when I'd finished the chapter. Great stuff. I've just read The Hate Game by Ben Dirs. It's about the Eubank/Benn fued in the early 90s (aka Britain's golden age of boxing) and its wider implications on the middleweight scene at the time. Really good read

I don't think they gave a shit about house show draws at Turner as long as the viewing numbers on TV were good. That's another strike against Watts - wanted to put more of an emphasis on house shows, not realising he was working for Turner Broadcasting

I figured that had to be the likely reason. Too bad because didn't both the Steiners and Paul E leave due to Watts cutting costs? Basically, Watts didn't take a salary but took a percentage of the money he saved the company instead... so of course it was in his best interest to cut contracts, lowball what few stars WCW had leading them to quit on his watch. Everyone's so quick to give Watts a verbal blowjob but I honestly think hiring him was one of the worst things WCW ever did

He gave big bonuses which caused wrestlers to (1) be happy (2) bust their ass. All things considered he sounded like a great boss from what little I remember from Foley's book... I wish I could remember the Kevin Nash quote about Kip Frey from that book too
