  1. MJF might have “that aura” but the normally reliable YouTube engagement numbers have The Acclaimed higher than him after last night, and Moxley and Saraya above both. Will be interesting to see going forward.
  2. Between the calls for Omega to come back and saying Punk needs to go, I’d say the Elite propaganda machine is doing its intended function. Punk will be back. If he wasn’t coming back, you’d have heard of it by now.
  3. The non-WCW/NWA/WWE list fucking rules. I’m still amazed that matches like those get exposure on a site with that much readership. Just a really cool thing to see.
  4. I don’t think it’s that he wants them out so much as if they aren’t going to adapt to the company they helped grow in the first place, then they aren’t going to add value to the company going forward. The whole idea of pro wrestling “in their image” clearly only had them having the heavy hand on the entire product when it’s pretty clear you can only do that in a smaller locker room where you have complete control. That’s not the case anymore.
  5. Lot of wishcasting here, not enough pragmatism. Punk being away for months is going to say more than most reports that are coming out now; with the latest regarding the Bucks rumors from SRS, it’s becoming more and more likely that Punk’s comments regarding The Elite and the dirtsheets are becoming more and more true. Meanwhile, hardly anything on Punk himself, but a lot more regarding Elite plans and the like: Omega positioning himself as “locker room leader” with what sounds like a hilariously ludicrous speech, Bucks inflating their worth with WWE rumors, etc. I made mention earlier about how the Bucks and Omega really used the sheets to their advantage over the years, mainly by flooding them with so much information the counter arguments were minuscule in comparison, and they’re trying to do the same here. Problem is their exposure is such that reading between the lines is becoming easier and easier. So if they DO jump elsewhere, and don’t have the usual safety nets that have actually buffered their standing over the years, they get branded as malcontents. So they’re using that playbook to make Punk, a noted curmudgeon, out to be that. Page is the metronome here and has also overplayed his hand; playing into Punk’s criticisms of him while also saying “The Elite think I’m good and that’s all I need.” Meanwhile, you put The Elite in a more controlled environment and their strengths deteriorate, which would happen to Page faster than he realizes The fascinating part of all of this is this mad rush to get to all the Hot Newz first, and people fumbling over sourcing this and that because you have to get SOMETHING out there to keep folks interested. It’s just the last 25 years sped up in a way that makes me shake my head; if there was EVER a time to actually try and get this right, now is the time, but the sheets can’t help themselves.
  6. Bryan Danielson is a fucking excellent professional wrestler. That is all.
  7. While this is an amazing Meltzer joke, I was going to say I haven’t been on that beat for quite a while.
  8. Also a huge dig at PJ Walker, who didn’t ask for any of this.
  9. The diction in that SI line is hilarious: You tie Punk and Ace together because they’re boys and imply that because the more likely of the two (Steel) would be let go, you get to assume Punk would back up his friend. It’s an incredibly speculative sentence and people run with it because you see “Punk” and “gone” a few words apart. Then you get to project Punk’s pettiness, the drama behind a top guy leaving, etc. An amazing piece of SEO aggregation writing, honestly.
  10. You’re on. My hope is that I don’t drive away the Segunda Caida faithful away with my choices.
  11. And my point is that it’s way easier to blow that up than be measured against it. And I say that because if it was really as bad as everyone says it was, the decision would have already been made. The fact it’s been basically 48 hours since it all went down and there hasn’t been much of anything since says the diffusion is happening and something is being worked out.
  12. I think SRS is overhyping the amount of heat on Punk because you have to get to that point to equate it with him being forced out. More than likely, It’s a bunch of talent eager to talk and project their thoughts to someone just as eager to run with things without accountability. More than likely, there’s heat on Punk, but not to the degree being speculated against. And even upon return from a suspension, there would be degrees to which he has to act or else he’s gone for good. The bottom line is the next three weeks have a ton of eyes on the product for better or worse. Maximize it while minimizing the fallout and this thing goes away. I don’t trust Tony to do that though.
  13. Dave is now leaning towards suspensions/people not being at TV tomorrow, which is…strangely the right move?
  14. The issue is more about their most recent bookings when they were hot. The Bucks went the route of dropping the belts to the Lucha Bros, then winning them back, then not dropping the fall when Swerve in Our Glory won, all the while FTR was on the roll of their lives and holding three major tag titles.
  15. Omega and the Bucks have been sources to Meltzer for years. They can deny they did anything specific regarding Punk/Page, but they absolutely have fed him things for quite a while. I think assuming they’ve been tight-lipped throughout this entire saga is assuming quite a lot. And Punk did what he did the way he did it because Page did it the way he did it. Tit for tat. Punk is a fickle asshole and because he felt he was blindsided, he figures the recourse would be to do the same to him. Not defending it because it’s bullshit all of it happened in the first place but whatever. The other thing I’m happy to point out here is that there’s a long history of the Elite going into business for themselves because they knew they were on top, both with promos and booking decisions. It’s the whole reason the damn YT show exists in the first place. To jab away at that notion and poke fun and be tongue-in-cheek. So for them to all of a sudden feel like they’re being wronged because someone is doing what they’re used to doing but with more vitriol behind it is a bit funny to me. Hence my comment earlier about these two being made for each other.
  16. I posted this over at PWO but this is how it is from the 10,000 foot view at this point: Everyone did this to themselves: -The Bucks and Omega did it because they’re the leakers to Meltzer and the like to sow the seeds of discontent with Punk. -Punk did it because he reacted with the unheralded vitriol that made him leave the business in the first place and the first sign of malice was an opportunity to give into his worst impulses. -Page did it because he worked himself into a shoot and it made things difficult to actually confront Punk about it because in his eyes, he should be the face of the company, worked it into multiple promos related to Punk, and then more or less did what his on-screen character did in the locker room. -Tony did it because he grew up reading dirtsheets and thought using them as a vessel to drive “organic” interest in the product no matter how it actually manifests itself is worthwhile because that’s what got him interested in wanting to do this shit in the first place. -And the sheets did it because they run a perpetual motion machine that when actually confronted with needing to report on something, show their collective asses because their sources are obvious and their behavior screams, “How can I get more clicks off this?” The ecosystem that allowed this to fester is something that won’t go away anytime soon, and the fallout from it is not going to be as interesting as anyone hopes. It will be sudden, it will be dumb, and it’ll end with whoever decides to take a side saying the other person did it.
  17. The issue is that now the race is on for it to be as much a work as possible. The blurred lines are driving clicks and subs and allowing things to be blown out of proportion. Everyone wants to dig in and find the facts here: They’re long gone. Only the stories remain. Even Tony going on record isn’t going to help matters.
  18. For what it’s worth, Punk gets triggered by the backstage bullshit and the Bucks are notoriously fickle about being knocked down a peg or two so this is a match made in heaven far as I’m concerned.
  19. Hope Punk and Tony still lurk here because they’re gonna love seeing some of these responses.
  20. The stuff Punk says screams the same worked shoot stuff Ospreay and Omega have been doing for weeks now. Punk is just a curmudgeon about it, which makes it come off more realistic instead of cute. It absolutely sets up the type of work Punk wants to do.
  21. Ready for Dom and Rhea to be Eddie/Chyna 2.0.
  22. Punk doing what he’s doing is more based on reports of Page “blowing off the vets” more than anything else, I’d wager.
