  1. I don't necessarily care that the end result has been the same every week. I would like to see them take a different path to get there. Thus far, every episode of RAW and Smackdown has ended with the same result and taken the exact same road to get there. Opening bad guy promo, they force Bryan into a no-win situation that he voluntarily walks into, then he gets dropped as everyone expected. That's not good writing. That's lazy writing. I think this is a fair point although I wouldn't go as for as calling it "lazy writing" yet. Triple H and Team "Good For Business" should be getting the upper hand and laying out Bryan (and the other faces) in a variety of ways, but it is important for them to have Bryan build on his attempts from week-to-week against this alliance and try different methods to go at them, even though his attempts will continue to fail. You know he's going to have failed teamups. He could also be shown seeking advice from the people who went through the first McMahon-Helmsey reign or reviewing tapes from that era to figure out how they were brought down. Just examples. Do whatever as long as it's different and builds upon his previous efforts.
  2. I think both sides of the coin need to chill a bit. Bryan isn't getting demoted or buried, and Triple-H is better in this role than as a face authority. At the same time, it's okay to criticize the execution of the storyline. Big Show wailing throughout the show does reach its limit of effectiveness after a point, and his tacked on financial crisis didn't work for me. As for the payoff we're all worried about, I will say the longer it plays out the greater the payoff has to be for the audience. It worked in 1999-2000 with Triple-H and the Rock because they delivered on the match, drama, and the Austin cameo. I don't think the payoff is coming anytime soon so be prepared. I kind of feel Bryan being a dick to the faces or at least not wanting to be helped or pitied is leading somewhere in the angle. Those segments with Booker and Big Show hinted at it. BTW, is Booker T still some type of authority on Smackdown? Booker T just popping out of nowhere and giving unsoliticed advice without having a official job and/or position might entertain me.
  3. Well, I guess they set things in motion to allow Cody to be the first to help Bryan since he's fired now. The place would have went wild if Cody had came in with a chair and saved Bryan tonight though. This was his night. Oh well. It still should get a nice reaction when it goes down. They got something in Titus O'Neil. Don't know if they'll ever get serious with him, but it's difficult to be a face in WWE right now. Especially a midcard face with next to no mic time, yet he has an unique charisma and keeps the crowd engaged. I hope he gets a Batista/DDP type of push in the future. I know Kane is off doing a movie or something and someone said this already, but Big Show's current role would make more sense with Kane. Well if you leave out the "you're old and broke" part, which may have been added to appease the "IRONCLAD CONTRACT" people. Hilarious.
  4. We all know Todd and his uncle's Brotherhood crew are going to be the catalyst to something bad because they are hanging around the story's back pocket. I'm not so sure Walt is going to order Jesse's death(another half measure?), but we'll know next episode. I actually could see Todd's death setting off the shitstorm especially if Walt or Jess is the cause of it. Yeah, there's a prediction. Todd's death.
  5. "The worst thing to call somebody is 'crazy'. It's dismissive. I don't understand this person, so they're crazy. That's bullshit! People are not crazy. They are strong people...Maybe the environment is a little sick."
  6. From what I'm hearing from others, I think you can with certain phone services, but I don't know or care enough to debate the point. There are no heroes here, and I'm enjoying it. Even Hank isn't completely virtuous. I don't want to root for anyone, and Gilligan seems to think the same. Nice.
  7. I think you're talking about the 2-page summary near the beginning, right? I did appreciate the summary because there were clearly ideas I wasn't understanding at the start of the novel. I think Ware added it in because other readers were in the same boat as me. Plus, the story was serialized weekly in a newspaper before being collected as a novel so I wonder if they added that part in just for the graphic novel.
  8. Conspiracy Truth was great because R-Truth was playing the hell out of the character even when it became to silly. That was definitely a case where WWE dropped the ball and not the wrestler in question. Filed in the "Can't always give WWE the benefit of doubt" folder. It's weird because I barely even remember the run now. A blip in time. Reminds me of that brief period when Randy Orton was the hottest character in WWE and the crowd was going crazy for him to turn during a tweener phase. I forgot the details behind it(I think he was feuding with the Legacy guys) but the crowd was supporting him on Cena-levels if I remember correctly.
  9. Oh yeah, Scarlett. There has only been 6 or 7 issues for it, right? I wanted to check it out awhile back, but I forgot about it. I'm not big into superhero books so I don't think I have read anything from Bendis. However, I'm a sucker for Spider-Man so I'll probably give Ultimate Spider-Man and Powers a try. I read the first trade of Hickman's Manhattan Projects and the premise is pretty neat. I actually didn't love it as much as I thought I would (I think I'm tired of the evil twin thing and I felt some of the characters were neglected) but it's good. It's historical fiction so it's cool to research the characters and some of the events in the story. I also read Chris Ware's Jimmy Corrigan: The Smartest Kid on Earth. This story is depressing as hell. Fine piece of work and I get all the praise, but man, I feel lousy.
  10. Vince Gilligan in an interview with Digital Spy said this: Click on this link for the entire interview: http://www.digitalspy.com/tv/s166/breaking-bad/interviews/a510056/breaking-bad-creator-vince-gilligan-talks-final-season-fan-theories.html Gilligan comes off much better in interviews and other media than most of the other showrunners from tv shows I've watched (I'm looking at you Mad Men and LOST dudes). He could be a dick for all I know, but he handles the circus around his show well.
  11. My head was so far up my ass back then that I think I just drooled over Gwen Stefani and barely even notice how the Harajuku Girls were being treated. Looking back, the whole thing is off-putting. Stefani trotted them around in matching outfits to all sorts of events, but I don't remember them ever speaking in her presence. Weird. I'm sure someone has written a much more insightful view on this than me, but I don't think she could do the same thing now and have it go as smoothly as it did in 2006.
  12. I thought Middle America would at least still remember the Ying Yang Twins' songs. Oh, and I think people are having issues with Miley's use of black backup dancers because they think she is using them(intentionally or not) more as props and/or toys to legitmatize her current act instead of dancers who enhance her choreography and show. Similar criticisms were made at Gwen Stefani for her use of the Harajuku Girls, the Japanese American backup dancer team she used during her solo era. I don't know either individuals' intentions or what's in their hearts, but I think it's always good to discuss legit concerns and criticism.
  13. This topic has been talked about on almost every pop culture website I frequent (thank you for the insight on twerking ABC News), so I guess it shouldn't surprise me there's a multiple page thread about it on this wrestling forum. Miley has more name cache than Pitbull at least. I am getting a kick out of some people saying their earliest experiences with "twerking", the word and action, has been through Miley Cyrus' recent escapades. Miley Cyrus is really going to be the one to popularize twerking to the general public, despite it being around for years? Of course.
  14. I saw about six "Definitive Collection Volumes" of the POWERS series at the library and I was tempted to start the series with them. I held off on grabbing them because I wanted to look up and see if Bendis/Oeming had an ending set in mind. So what do you think of the series? I've heard some of the arcs aren't perfect, but the majority of the series is a good read. I also picked up the first volume of The Manhattan Projects on a whim. I want to see if I'm into Jonathan Hickman's writing style since I hear a fair amount of praise for his comics.
  15. When they eventually pull the trigger on a Daniel Bryan Vs. CM Punk feud, which I assume is going to happen by next year, these threads are going to be miserably entertaining.
  16. Never has the demand for an extended cut of Jersey Girl been at a greater high than now. A nation waits.
  17. Thank my spirit animal you kept R.I.P.D. in, SKoS. It was easily the most predictable bad movie of the summer, and it's not even close. One view of the trailer and I knew the critics would loathe it. I wasn't so sure about the box-office but I didn't think it would have that much appeal. I thought the studio might just leave it for dead right before its release. It got more promotion than I thought it would in the week it came out.
  18. Yeah, Snyder's direction and the writing for this thing is a bigger issue to me than Ben Affleck's Batman. There's going to be a lot to handle in this movie. Basically, there are going to be many opportunities to fuck things up. I hope it's not 3 hours.
  19. I just want to finish in the top 6 so RossWB won't overtake me in the Summer Blockbuster Pool Hall of Fame. I see you. The damn tiebreakers might actually end up being significant this year. I didn't play the game in 2012 but I'm not surprise to see it's the outlier year. I suspect the same will happen in 2015 if all the big releases stay on track.
  20. I knew this would quickly turn into "Ben Affleck was awful/great in this-or-that movie so this won't work/this might work". Lets just say his performance in Gigli isn't a deal breaker for me in this role. It's cliche, but put me with the "wait and see" crowd. I don't have anything against Affleck. He's been apart of some movies I didn't care for, but he's done some enjoyable stuff too. I actually think a lot rides on what type of chemistry Affleck and Henry Cavill will have in the movie. The Batman and Superman dynamic depends on how they work together and their interactions. A good dynamic could carry this teamup. I am surprise WB went with such a big name actor only because there are so many hardline perceived notions and opinions on him. Just reading the last few pages and you can see people bringing up baggage outside of his acting career. Even an outstanding performance might not convince some people. Then again, the publicity and hype for this film just went up a notch or two so maybe they feel it's worth it.
  21. High DVD sales or not, I agree with whoever said Kick-Ass didn't need a sequel. One was fine and entertaining enough. The notoriety of seeing an ultra-violence film starring foul-mouth teens has worn-out. Vaughn being a producer doesn't really help Kick-Ass 2's case since a producer's involvement varies depending on the movie. I don't need a third one too. Anyway, I'm sure Mark Millar's shameless ass will jump at the chance to cash in on writing another Kick-Ass comic if he hasn't wrote a third one already.
  22. I didn't even know Paranoid or Jobs were coming out last weekend. Both films were just thrown out there for scraps in the dog movie days of summer. No buzz. Was it a limited released for both, at least?
  23. Hooray for clean table match victories!
  24. I haven't seen the match, but I feel like this is a challenge to find a worse one from Punk.
  25. This is good stuff. If they book this right and they have done so in the past(it's similar to "The Rock keeps get screwed over by Triple-H/McMahons" story from 2000), Bryan is going to be white hot with the crowd especially on RAW tomorrow. We already know Orton is a good at being bad too.
