  1. I dunno if I was hallucinating or what but I swore I saw a phone sex ad followed by a psychic reading ad recently. All I knew it was time to go to bed. It does remind me of the days of BET Uncut (shout out to Stokely Hathaway) where you get something like Nelly's Tip Drill where Nelly is sliding a credit card down some young lady's buttcheeks at the end of the program littered by that type of advertising followed by informercials for Pastor Kerney Thomas or Peter Popoff's Miracle Spring Water aka "we made a trip down to the local Costco and put some water in little packets". Someone had a great sense of humor.

  2. From Fightful Select (c&p'd from reddit) PPVs on Max for free as part of my sub? Sure. PPVs on Max for a like $5 extra per month? I guess. But if it's PPVs on Max for full price, then nah. I can get PPVs for $20 on Triller.

  5. I really think that this is the absolutely best booking decision they could make. Especially if you turn Stokely at DoN. Shit, as much as I wouldn't want it, turn Stat AND Stoke and have Stat be Mone's muscle. EDIT: No, I take that back. My heart can't handle Stat turning so soon after the implosion of the best Friends. I'm sorry for putting that out there into the universe. Mone/Kamille or Bayne v Stat/Willow sounds better.

  9. Pardon the Interruption became insufferable when it became the "Mike Wilbon complains about millennials not getting sports" show, where everything Wilbon hated was the fault of millennials. This was not helped by Tony Kornheiser refusing to watch anything past 9pm or acknowledge anything that wasn't personally airing on his TV. Re: Chuck, he said he wanted to retire when he was 60. He's 61 now, so I'm guessing he decided to stay because he was enjoying himself with the Inside the NBA crew. If WBD loses the NBA rights and Inside the NBA ends, him hitting the golf course for the rest of his life would be the least surprising thing in the world.

  10. I wonder how much that screenplay (or probably the rewrites) was altered by the fact that none of the Von Erichs were really atypical good guys and it's much harder to find a redemptive story. I say that because Jeff Jarrett's podcast on the World Class/Memphis merger paints Kerry and Kevin in a light that doesn't do any of them favors especially as businessmen and professionals. And while the film paints the picture that the family's star transitioned from Kevin to David to Kerry and Kevin was passed over after David's death, Kerry spent a long ass time in Dallas when the territory and town was on its ass. So by the time he took the WWF offer, it was basically a last ditch/only available option that hadn't been explored yet. When you look back at WWF from 89 to about 93 or 94, the people that didn't come over in the first and second waves of ex territory superstars picked off by Vince eventually came over after all the juice had been squeezed out of their home base or either in Puerto Rico, Mexico, or Japan. That's why a Lawler eventually comes over in late 92 even though he still does stuff in Memphis all the way until the territory is officially dead in the early 2000s. So for a guy like Kerry, who still has personal and professional struggles on top of essentially missing a limb, it's hard to paint him in a light other than Fritz is living vicariously through him. In addition, I think people in charge of the film likely struggled with, "Is the movie suppose about the boys or is it about Fritz?". It's extremely difficult to convey certain complexities in 2 hours when the story spans several years. I am guessing there was a chunk of the story that didn't make the final cut.

So a mention of them filming a pilot for a new show that isn’t a reality show, and then today RJ CIty announces he and Renee hosting “Match and a Meal” on the TBS YouTube channel starting next week, with the first guest being Eddie Kingston. check that: coming Friday! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pa_g7IRmZmU

  14. That's a good point, and something my falling-asleep-with-my-face-on-the-phone ass didn't really register. I really haven't missed them because the show had been overstuffed, but it really has felt like there was a male heel deficit now that you mention it.

  16. I didn't see anything about that, but that was the assumption I made too - it's kind of the same school of thought as the 8 hour Dark tapings during the pandemic adding value to the company by padding the hours of archival content. I'd even wager theres a chance the ROH purchase may have been made with a similar thought in mind re: that tape library. It's one thing to simply stream PPVs on Max or anywhere else, but I think the real money in the deal is going to be in the licensing fees for the archive/'AEW Network,' if you will. ETA: Honestly, at this point, it simply seems to be a game of whether or not the bubble has been timed right

  17. One post I read speculated that TK adding PPVs was designed to show more value to WBD, which makes some sense.

  18. I actually really like this idea as a happy medium between the WWE/NBC setup, and the traditional $50 PPV model - this might be a nice plan B for AEW to continue being able to get at least a small chunk of PPV revenue if they can't get WBD to bite on subsidizing those lost buys by massively overspending like NBC did (which, based on what we've learned about Zaslav's mindset re: the NBA, seems unlikely)

  21. i bought a bag of those fancy gummi bears and long story short I find it necessary to remark on my concerns regarding the current state of lucharesu I meant to check back up on Dragon Gate after CIMA left (I am inexplicably anti-CIMA) but never got around to it. I know they're always sneaky successful with the non-Tokyo set and the female fanbase but I don't hear any hype these days. MPro has been something else for awhile, Osaka Pro's dead, I think Toryumon Mexico got killed by COVID, there aren't any HUSTLE undercards, the post-DG Ultimo trainees seem scattered to the winds, the crossover NJPW/CMLL stuff reads as an entirely different genre, and CHIKARA didn't fall from grace so much as swan dive. But that's just the thing - if a bunch of noise punks from Eastern PA and their idiot dork dad could slap some masks on and create an approximation of lucharesu that was relevant for years and years + created some very real TV stars, why can't anybody else figure it out? Why can't anybody else even attempt it? Or do I not know where to look?

  22. Jokic putting up 40-7-13-2-1 on 15-22 shooting and with zero (0) turnovers is just... He's doing that to the best defensive big man of his era. I don't know if Denver just needed a sense of danger to wake up or what, but if Jokic is gonna play like that regularly you can start designing their back to back rings.

  23. Sol/Izzi was solid and a decent showcase for Dame. Loved the Sol Snatcher finish. Kind of shocked Ruca hadn't done it that way before as it feels so obvious as a decent setup. Disappointed Izzi was knocked out here instead of getting in the match. She deserves the spot a lot more than Jaida who I'm not sure why they are so high on. OTM vs. Enofe/Blade was solid thought Reese and Parker's feud spilling out overshadowed the match a pinch. Lash/Ivy was decent. Mensah/Evans was a pretty nice showcase for both guys. Oro in particular looked impressive here the way he kept in control or took it back every time Evans tried to build up momentum. The NA Title segment was alright. I do find it amusing how Briggs is the only one the crowd sees as heel despite technically doing nothing wrong. Good Brothers vs. Ridge/Riley was fine. Lola/Carlee was an alright debut and showcase for Carlee. The post match attack by Nattie and Karmen to set up next week's tag could have been a bit better, particularly after the earlier brawl. Tony/Charlie was good with the two meshing quite well. It was nice seeing Tony's amateur side come out more here. Tony actually winning was surprising. Not sure I like it since I was hoping Dempsey would get a decently long run with the belt. At the same time Tony really does deserve a singles title run of some sort. No blow away matches or segments though most everything was decent at worst. Sol/Izzi, Mensah/Evans, and Tony/Charlie were the standouts here and worth catching. Decent show.

  27. Might be some money in Mercedes cheating to win and turning heel, and Willow chasing her and finally beating her without having an asterisk next to the result of the match. Maybe Mercedes brings in some muscle after that in the form of Megan Bayne and/or Kamille. I still want Stokely to be behind all of this and align himself with her. Forbidden Door could be your stopgap big show in between the blow-off where some Stardom & CMLL ladies team up with both sides. More women of the show (even if it’s ultimately 2-3 matches) and we’ll get Toni/Mina too.

I'm going to need the unofficial 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. "You're unemployed, bro/sis" ad block to step their game up and get on the level of the YouTube ads where AI Steve Harvey that sounds like a white man doing a horrendous Steve Harvey impression telling people they're a dummy for missing out on this $5,000 government benefit everyone is entitled to.

  31. If it's most cost effective to do so, yes, and that's the thing people need to be concerned about. Remember, this is an ad game. If you get a better return on investment re: rights fees/ad sales by running movies than you do running pro wrestling, someone who slashes budgets as much as Zaslav is going to run the movie. The amount of ratings literally don't matter. If you're getting $50,000 in ad sales on a $25,000 movie, and you're getting $120,000 on a $100,000 wrestling show, you're getting $5,000 more to run the movie. If it draws a tenth of the audience of the wrestling show, that doesn't matter. All that matters is the balance sheet at the end of the month.

  34. So, isn't that basically what UFC does with ESPN? The "fight nights" or whatever are on ESPN+, but the numbered UFC events are available for an additional fee? I can see the AEW/ROH archives and perhaps a MAX-exclusive weekly ROH show as part of the basic MAX package, and then the pseudo-monthly PPV as an additional fee right thru the MAX platform.

  38. I'm about 30 hours into Rebirth and just landed in Costa Del Sol. This game is great. I've been 100%ing every area before I move on. Only thing I've skipped was hard mode for Fort Condor. I'll come back to that. I had a hell of a time getting the trophy in Remake for the dance mini game. It took me a bunch of attempts. The Junon parade march, I jumped right to the hardest formation to try for the trophy here and boom got it on the first attempt. I'm loving this game. Just the weird quarks and moments like Barret in the navy outfit and Red dressing up to enter the Queen's Blood tournament. Love it. Love Queen's blood too. Really getting the hang of it. If I have one gripe about half way (ish) through the story it's that... well... there hasn't been that much story. Essentially the story so far has been quick confusing prologue, flashback, let's follow the guys in the black robes, Yuffie attempted murder. That's it. We're six chapters in and as far as the main story that's all I've gotten. Don't get me wrong there's all kinds of great side stories and moments. Just as far as the over arching narrative, it's pretty thin so far. Overall loving the game. Loving the combat. Loving the mini games Ive gotten to so far. It's great stuff. Scrolled back through to see some of Craig's & Raziel's thoughts on the first half of the game and got a good laugh that you guys were just as confused as I was on that prologue.

  42. Probably not as much as we think. The NBA has wanted full control of NBA League Pass (the current model is a joint venture between the NBA and Turner Sports, same with NBA TV) for a while, and it wouldn't surprise me if there's very little interest from WBD on maintaining a venture with the NBA that doesn't also include NBA League Pass and NBA TV. It wouldn't surprise me if Disney or NBC Universal are willing to make some pretty huge offers to bring League Pass/NBA TV under the ESPN+ or Peacock banners respectively, and that's what will cut WBD out. Disney already did this with NHL.tv so it wouldn't be entirely out of the question.

  43. Oh, "Hades II". Those wonderful bastards have me hooked all over again and I'm liking how the new stuff mixes very well with familiar territory. I got it yesterday and barely scraped by to the second realm. But it just feels so damn good. Also, unless you don't like cats I can't recommend enough "Little Kitty, Big City" It is incredibly, incredibly adorable and in my case is a nice chill game to do after dying so many times in "Hades II".
