  1. If you want to see Vikingo in a Tony Khan production again, you won't have to wait long.

  3. You know who Vikingo reminded me of? Blitzkreig. Blitzkreig ruled! Needed way more Blitzkreig than we got.

  4. Nah, Blitzkrieg's career was perfect. Came out of nowhere, gave us 25 TV matches of some of the wackiest flips you've ever seen, and then disappeared as suddenly as his came because he could make more money at his IT job and still have his knees work. A proper wrestling legend.

  5. Yeah, I'm going to go ahead and say that nobody is untitled to your time no matter how famous you are. I'm pretty sure everyone who knows me considers me genuinely nice, but I'd bet most strangers would describe me as standoffish at best and mean or rude at worst. I'm just not that interested in talking to strangers. So if you approach someone you don't know in public, you get what you get. You always have the choice to leave people the fuck alone, and if you don't they might be rude to you. It's more rude to interrupt someone's day and expect them to sign shit and take pictures, than it is to not be happy about strangers asking you for a bunch of shit.

  10. That reminds me: I saw this not too long ago where Jimmy Hart has a "funeral" for the Bruise Brothers (the Porkchop Cash and Dream Machine/Troy Graham version) and "debuts" the New Fabulous Ones. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8GsKFvsiDC0 Not to spoil the surprise, but tell me you don't get hype when the fucking Gap Band hits. This is amazing TV. Tony Khan, steal this. Please. Do this for the Gunns. I am begging you.

  11. They planted the seed for Genesis being unstable in TWoK itself when Carol said that everything in the cave grew in a week at an astonishingly accelerated rate. They had it being unstable on the backburner. THe retcon that it was mostly David was due to then not willing to pay Bibi Besch to show up again. Picard's remains is less a figurehead for the Changlings and more, he's a Full Admiral and his command codes still all work (even if he's retired). Changlings have his DNA and can do blood and organs. They also planted a Chekov's Gun (yeah yeah) that all the ships in Starfleet are interlinked and will all be present on Fleet Day. I'm guessing his body is needed to do a full override of all the Fleet (which would be a better plan overall, as it's been revealed that while Picard is a legend, there are a lot of people around that don't like him). That's where I'm thinking the ships at the museum come into play, as they're not linked like the modern ships are. That brings up a different problem as none of them should have functioning weapons systems, and all of them but Voyager shouldn't be able to hang with current ships.

  13. There is so much great stuff, and it's all worth watching, but you have to break it up into chunks or it will all run together. Watch the 90-91 Jumbo and friends vs Misawa and friends feud, then take a break and comeback and watch Misawa and Kawada start their feud. Then watch Kobashi's ascension, etc. It's funny, but you need some filler. We all have stood in the fridge eating slices of cheese or some cold cuts, but when you're making a meal you will get some bread, some mayo, some mustard, a pickle, lettuce, tomato, and you'll have a satisfying sandwich. Watching all of the great matches from 90s AJPW is like eating a pound of cold cuts. It doesn't really matter how much you like it, you'll get tired of eating that shit pretty quickly.

  14. Forgot to mention the Cole/Garcia segment as something I really liked on the show as well. Thought Garcia did particularly excellent there, loved the bit where he stopped short of calling himself a professional wrestler.

  15. Coming back to this thread after being on the road for a bit and seeing it go to talking about wives and dudes' weiners and descriptions of dudes' weiners and who's a pervert and what's even a pervert, rather than IG Punk, is the funniest god damn thing ever

  16. Kensuke Sasaki was a terrible Riki Choshu/ Road Warriors tribute act before Akira Hokuto taught him how to work. And he stole all of her moves in the process... so basically he stopped being a tribute act to his mentors, and became a tribute act to his (far more talented) wife instead.

  19. People have to remember this was before we would see crazy looking SOBs on TV so anyone who looked like Mr. T at the time was gonna turn some heads. It's the old pro wrestling airport test. It also helped he was a bit of a character himself. When all that played out and the novelty wore off, he was just another person who got spit out by Hollywood. However, it was clearly right time and right place.

  23. Man, I just watched the AWA match with Hogan and the future Killer Bees vs. Heenan, Ventura, and Patera last week. When that song hits, you would have thought the goddamn Beatles were in the building. FWIW World Class used it for a Kerry music video. DUDE I WAS GONNA POST THAT! They played that shit RELENTLESSLY.

  25. I tried to get my wife to watch the Rocky movies with me. We watched Rocky 1 and that was it until Creed. We watched Creed 1 and 2. She has zero idea of any references to Rocky and she’s pretty in tune with pop culture, well about as much as a 40 year old can be in tune with pop culture now. And this is a woman who first bonded with me over talking about the Predator for well over an hour over a pitcher of beer on our first date. All I’m saying is, there are people who get a lot of pop culture that have no idea about anything in the Rocky movies because they didn’t care about them. EDIT: And since we’re talking about folks out kicking their coverage, I know I definitely did.

  28. The biggest argument for them to win is that Mark has associated with them and you want to make sure that's treated with reverence. That said, I do understand people's concerns about "AEW" guys winning stuff and along those lines, I see Lucha Bros as much more established and normal AEW guys. They were launch wresters who have held multiple titles and really sync in to certain parts of the house style. Top Flight fits more of the neo-ROH feel and style.

  30. During COVID I bought a 20 disc set of 90s All Japan (100 matches total) ranked by Meltzer’s star ratings from 4.5 - 4.75 - 5 - 6. Starts with Kobashi/Akiyama from July 24th 1998 and ends with Misawa/Kawada from June 3rd, 1994. Needless to say I haven’t made it out of the first disc. It’s an overwhelming amount of stuff. The guy on Etsy does A LOT of comp DVDs. He has a similar set of AJW for $40 (and a CM Punk AEW set collecting his >1 year run with them for $20).

  31. I'll catch this over the next couple of days but I'm hoping Top Flight or the Kingdom get the nod for the tag titles. I think it'd do Top Flight a world of good. Lucha Bros don't need the titles and the titles don't need them. Kingdom can anchor the division if need be. Rush should be a top singles guy and the next challenger for either Claudio or Kingston. I assume Aussie Open have other things to do.

  33. Since I'm sure people are dying to know, I watched both Bock vs Nord (the Barbarian, not yet a viking). matches (one in June, right before Bock is given the title and one in August, building on the last one now that Bock has it). And they're pretty good. They play well into my Bock GWE case (https://forums.prowrestlingonly.com/topic/28667-nick-bockwinkel/page/2/#comment-5732493) as you can see another role with him as a relatively undersized babyface trying to chip away at a monster heel, which is not how he fought Hansen at all. In the first match, it was more back and forth with Bock as an aggressor trying one technique or target after the next and failing. Nord had a couple of big bumps, one into the corner, one over the top and generally looked credible on offense. There was a great moment early when Bock couldn't get a headlock to work and Nord just choked the hell out of him and tossed him and Bock had this look of awe and disbelief on his face. All good stuff. It had a bit of a BS finish where Al-Kassie got on the apron and Bock broke the sleeper to go after him letting Nord kick him in the face and get a pin with a hand on the rope. That set up the second match which had Bock much more on the defensive. Some pretty good arm stuff here and very good selling from Bock. Probably a better overall match though there was quite a novelty to the first one. These were perfectly solid and nothing in them bugged me in the least. I was probably better off watching a few gifs of the Omega match and watching these in full. And it's best that's all I say about that. I guess one more thing.. After the lucha set came out, I really struggled trying to understand what I was watching. I spent a year on Segunda Caida watching three matches a week to try to find patterns and purpose and structure and break the code, and now, looking back years later, the biggest disconnect I have with a lot of modern lucha, fans, and even luchadores, is that to me, the dives and spots and sequences are a means and not an end. It's very, deeply, thoroughly, clearly an end unto itself for most of the people going nuts over this stuff. And that's ok. But I'm happier not engaging more than that, and everyone else is happier with me not engaging too.

  34. It’s still wild to me that Jericho is a locker room leader, and held a meeting after Brawl Out in which he, Danielson and Mox talked about various things - one of them being to not air dirty laundry to the dirt sheets, I believe. Fuckin’ lol on that one.

  36. The Fun run continues. Great trios bout to begin. 60s Sting is the best Sting since he was surfing in the late 80s. Gunns-Top Flight was fine to follow. I dig the chickenshit heel Gunns, but with a preference for lower on the card. Not into Belted Asses. The post match promo was a great example of their lack of readiness for the gold. Let Cash get a word in first. Poor construction of a talk segment to have FTR standing there like chumps after the spitballs. Maybe FTR are the losers young Colton suggested. No wait, I love FTR! Nice Jade promo. Sterling's on fire these days. Leila Grey seems to be coming into her own in-ring and on the mic - I'm seeing rumblings of most improved in 2023 from a good source. That Kiera Hogan bout from Dark this week suggests this may be true. Stoke-Hook was fun. Adam Cole-Danny Garcia talk segment was spot on. Garcia is already great and only getting better. I think babyface Cole has found his spot. I may have had unreasonably high expectations for Stu-Mox, but I was happy nonetheless. Rick Starks slides in with a solid promo - his flow has always been good, but his content is starting to match. Tho not as great as last week's debut, QTV continues to defy the haters with terrific comedy. Harley Cameron seems poised for stardom, not the promotion, maybe the promotion. Toni leads Skye to perhaps her best match yet. Riho rocking and rolling around with weapons in hand is working. Goddamn BCC are killing it. Kenny-Vikingo was a goddamn masterpiece. Beautiful! Also, kudos to AEW for a nice build with the terrific videos. Okay, so post-match, it seems a bit silly that they didn't pre-tape the Hangman ambulance deal. I mean for timing. It worked anyway, but would've worked even better had the BCC not had to buy time. It should be noted that Moxley's stomps on Omega were absolutely horrible. I love Mox, but he has rotten looking stomps - especially when he tries Danielson's kick your face in routine. Just stop Jon! I'll leave the 'Backscratch of Doom' alone this week. Most everything else he does is pretty great. Like this company. Goddamn, Goddamn I love this fucking show!

  37. I'm getting my discussion of the endless Punk drama out of my system now. God forbid we get to enjoy the afterglow of a well-received Dynamite or anything like that. CM Punk has the right to tell his side of the story and Meltzer continues to look dumb. But if Punk really managed to make enemies out of The Elite, Jericho and Moxley that quickly then why the hell would he even want to come back? How are you gonna defend yourself against accusations of being a "locker room cancer" when you literally made foes out of every single AEW World Champion up until that point?

  38. Thing is though, if you're doing it in a "look how cool I am" way that's not really worthy of praise. Like when CM Punk says well I haven't seen Rocky, the first thing someone should tell him is so fucking what? That's not even the point of the conversation. If someone is playing backyard football with you and you bring up the Immaculate Reception or Dwight Clark's catch or David Tyree's helmet catch in Super Bowl, they don't have to explain the ENTIRE GAME of football to you even if you are a non sports fan. I like Punk but that's kinda a douche chill "Alright...and?" moment. The right thing to do is just to say, "hey man, can you elaborate a bit further?". Not roll your eyes and say well I haven't seen the Rocky movies. As for the films themselves, it would depend on the age of the person you're talking to. III is wondering around that Skynet is self aware thing where they know it's a very lucrative franchise so the film has to have certain beats. IV basically lost the plot, but they were working with house money.

  43. That was just one of the many bits that had me misty eyed. The Voyager scene with Seven and Jack had me crying. That was the most Next Generation episode yet, down to some definitely intentional goofy dialogue during the big group scenes. What's JG Hertzler doing? I want Martok. And while you're at it, show that's already filmed, how about at least a Garek reference? I love this season.

  44. Better yet, she watches The Rocky Horror Picture Show multiple times and complains that she's seeing the same thing in every movie. However, she still comes to the same conclusion as everyone else and says the fifth one is in the words of the great scholar Joe Budden "a two pack of ass".
