  2. I won't bear any Big Bill slander. Big dudes goozling smaller dudes has always been and always will be at the essence of pro-wrestling

  3. Since you're one of the four or five posters who meets this criteria on this board - there are people out there who actually get upset when a televised pro-wrestling show does a good rating because it conflicts with their negative projections and enjoyment of a fanbase's disappointment. I'd call that a stranger bunch.

  4. This is weird. I'm pretty certain that I'm excited for every match on Dynamite more than every match on Revolution. Even the dumb ladder match because it's got Kingston and Ortiz and Hobbs and Komander (so it'll be something new at least) and the battle royal because I like those and there's a mystery team. But definitely OC vs Bill, Hook vs Matt, Jericho vs Avalon, and Storm vs Riho. I'm honestly looking forward to all four of those. Fresh matches. Interesting style clashes. I hope Avalon and Matt both get a few minutes in there at least. That's the joy of AEW, right? If you aren't feeling something, wait a minute. The roster is that just fun.

  5. For me, it is physically unwatchable due to the camerawork and lighting. I read descriptions of these great matches but when I try and watch them I get nauseous and almost vertiginous.

  6. Maybe some of us (I know I speak for myself) just don't like pro wrestling as WWE is currently presenting it and don't want to watch? Maybe it's that simple? I honestly couldn't give less of a shit about this site's "reputation". I like what I like. I have no obligation to watch WWE if I don't care for it.

  7. Idk if this counts as spoilers, but be advised; I really don't understand the notion that HHH has turned WWE around. The numbers are up, but I think that's a cyclical thing. Outside of the Bloodline, what angles are better than they were with Vince in charge? Most of his nxt re-hires have been failures to this point. Gargano. Lumis. Bronson Reed. Karrion Kross. Shit Row. Dakota Kai has been thoroughly "meh." Tegan Nox. He's managed to make Io Sky boring. Santos Escobar should be in a better spot than he is. It's not good booking. At all. His treatment of Judgement Day has been awful. He had the good sense to give Piper Niven her name back. That's a positive. But he shit up the payoff to the Reigns/Zayn angle and now we're supposed to believe the same tag team titles that have been an afterthought for most of the last two decades is somehow a satisfying conclusion? It's real bad. A lot of folks are lying to themselves because they're so happy Vince is gone that they'll accept anything. The matches are longer. Great. Oh, I'll give him credit for one thing; he had the good sense to put Imperium back together. Those guys rule. I just don't buy the hype with HHH. Smackdown is unwatchable most weeks outside the Bloodline stuff, the women's division is in a shambles, and the midcard is still a jumbled mess outside of Gunther, and he really shouldn't be there.

  8. I wish some other promotions had more of a following here, I've been watching more Stardom since last year and Giulia is one of my absolute favorites in the world. Also, the NOAH shows have been good, "Last Love" was really fun and I was amazed at how big league the production values were for that one. I think people would love that aspect because it's really crispy HD on a big stage with sleek graphics but still shot like you'd expect a puro card to be shot. I won't get into the details of the matches, save that for the Japan part of the board I suppose. iMPACT's women's division is really good right now. AJPW usually has some matches to go out of your way for too. I've been mostly down on AEWs booking since the beginning of the year but there's still plenty of great matches. Pro wrestling is alive and well.

  9. I don’t care about the WON Awards but I don’t get how anyone does not think HHH has done a pretty good job. Before he came aboard, the shows were a mess. And I say this as someone who has been the most positive WWE fan on here probably. I stopped watching the shows mostly and just caught up on what looked good on YouTube. But the shows are organized now and build to things. Not everything is going to be perfect. And no one will like everything. But it everything heads somewhere. A great example of this: They teased weeks in advance and then built up The Usos getting close to having the record streak from The New Day, their greatest enemy and the other team in the GOAT conversation. They had their match on Smackdown. It had major stakes to it. And it was a banger of a match and one of my favorites from the last few years. That only happens with HHH and it really is something only the WWAe can do. As far as a lot of his favorites from NXT he brought up: Outside of Karrion Kross, who was ever cast as someone to have a main event level spot? Everyone else was brought in to freshen up the mid-card with new personalities. They have five hours of TV to fill a week, and there is a big need to have time carved out for 10 minutes of screen time that at the break even point aren’t boring and maybe can break out into something bigger if all goes well. As far as the tag titles go, Dax brought it up on his podcast. You know how we all complain about how the tag titles don’t really mean anything? KO/Sami vs. The Usos headlining one of the nights of WrestleMania as a cap to the best storyline ever rectifies that pretty quickly.

  10. Toni vs Willow, check. Dustin Rhodes saying something weird and Keith Lee reacting, check. Lance Archer killing some poor fool, check. Watching a Sammy Guevara match on 2x speed, check. Using the extra time I have to watch Georges Cohen and Gass Doukhan wrestle some guys from 85 for Tuesday, check.

  11. The WON awards are for 2022 only so you have to take that into consideration but for my money, WWE over the past 5-6 months has been a tremendous improvement. People say "aside from The Bloodline.." well, The Bloodline and everything surrounding it has been all-time great but you can look around and see other improvements. The Gunther title reign, who cares if most of it has been on free TV, that's fine.. it's the first time in a long time where the intercontinental champion is booked to the level of the main event. The U.S. title, same thing and they had a ton of fresh faces in that elimination chamber like Bronson and Montez Ford who shined with the spotlight on him. Women's division appears to be turning a corner, Bianca's on a good run and the feud with Asuka should be immense. Rhea/Charlotte could be good too.. So what exactly is the problem? Thats way fucking better than Vince.

  15. Next week is the long awaited debut of aew in the Bay Area. I’m going to dynamite and revolution, I have “ringside” seats for dynamite but I don’t think I’ll be on the actual guardrail. Looks like I’ll be one person off it in the upper left corner of the tv screen. Anyway I’ll be rocking the dark sheik shirt if I happen to be visible. I gotta say it feels a little weird after being so hyped up for so long about aew and then when they come out here finally it just feels a little flat. It’s just weird in a way. But I know they will be super entertaining shows with some kick ass matches and I’m gonna have a great time.

  18. I mean it’s a no-win black hole of a discussion that I’m sure I’ll regret starting, but I can’t help but say I don’t think the WON Awards have ever been further away from the general wrestling zeitgeist (even the internet version of it). There is some serious fart self-smelling going on here.

  19. I thought this was a pretty good show, but it was in front of exactly the right crowd. AEW needed to feel exciting, and it did. Yutes is one of my favorite TV wrestlers right now. I think he has a really advanced feel for where he is in a match, if that makes any sense. He's like one of those college basketball players who doesn't possess any attribute at an elite level, but every year he averages double figures in scoring and assists and his team always gets to the Sweet 16. I really, REALLY dig what he brings to the table, and for a guy with such pure babyface energy I really liked the mean streak he showed. Ricky Starks is The. Shit. It feels like every time he's on tv I get on here after and talk about how he's a can't miss top babyface. My biggest fear is that he's gonna get passed over for Adam Cole, who might be the least interesting wrestler on earth. I also fear they're gonna do the thing where Jericho wins but it's with enough shenanigans that they can claim they "kept Ricky strong." My bet would be on Action Andretti double crossing Starks. Or Hobbs costing Starks the match. The best thing for all involved woud be for Starks to go over clean and move on. In a perfect world Starks would go on to take the TNT title off of the winner of Wardlow/Samoa Joe. I'm just not into this women's stuff, except that Ruby Soho is getting featured the way she should've been from the start. Hayter feels like such an afterthought right now. Great shit from the Acclaimed and this Bill/Moriarty team. They're REALLY coming into their own, and both guys feel like they're having a ball. Moriarty has a real blaxploitation movie hero energy to him. The Acclaimed always bring the goodness. I think FTR will be the 4th team. It's set up perfectly for them to be the Jokers in the CBR. Jarrett and Lethal bring such a strong stooge heel presence to the show. They're heels that get a heel reaction. Jarrett, in particular, is putting on a master class in doing stuff without doing stuff. It's dope. The main event was great. Mox gets a ton out of everyone he works with. Idk if it's because guys are in there fighting for their lives against him and it makes it seem like a better match, but whatever it is, it works. Mox has been so built up by TK's booking that he feels unbeatable, but Hangman can't eat a loss right now. I wonder if Mox is putting Page over partially as a message to a certain "delta plus" that if HE can put Hanger over, and Kenny can put Hangman over, that Chicago Made shouldn't have an issue with it either. Good shit. Not surprised the number was high. A hot crowd helps this show so much.

  20. I think you'll get plenty of screen time if you're in that spot. Especially when there's entrances and outside activity. Have fun, dude. Stu leaving has hurt Dark Order more than we may have realized at the time. He had one helluva team going with Uno and his singles stuff was great too. I hope with recent developments it might be enough to bring him back at least for a short time and see how he likes where things are going.

  29. I don't think being a Christian makes you a psycho necessarily. But if you make it your public identity almost as if it's your wrestling character, that's a red flag. Anyone working that hard to make that their identity is generally pretty phony. Usually there's a reason for being that level of phony and that reason tends to be the psycho part.

  30. Kind of late to the Emi/Starks party but I did spend about a couple weeks getting through 12 episodes each of Dark and Elevation. No, I'm not kidding and man am I glad I work from home. That was an epically giant wad of wrestling to catch up on. Once I catch up on the 6 episodes of Rampage I'm behind on (initially was as far behind as 10) then I'll be all caught up with all of AEW. I think. I hope. Man, this is a lot of content. I heard a lot about Billie but haven't seen indy wrestling for a good while. So her Dark appearances were the first I actually saw her wrestle. As they went on I was continually impressed with how good she is for 18. It's almost absurd but then I'm reminded of folks like Nick Wayne and Starboy who I hear are pretty goddamn good at their age also. And if that's actually true for Nick and Starboy then wrestling's future is insanely bright. Anyway Emi/Starks ruled so fucking hard and is a super strong contender for MOTW.

  31. Is number five even a "promotional tactic"? Corgan gave Brutus the NWA title to carry around as a prop and represent the brand on Fox News, surely that's a promotional tactic that merits mention.

  33. It's weird how out of the relatively modern crop of upper echelon QBs, it's turning out that the Mannings are the only ones who aren't/weren't psycho. Well, them and Kurt Warner. Even Brees has done some boneheaded shit. Russ' whole Christian act was my tip-off for him around the time he got drafted.

  34. Mr. Wrestling II's slow-burn turn is pretty amazing. I'm sitting over here heated that TA is letting Wrestling II disrespect him like that. Wrestling II slapped TA after TA said Wrestling II was acting like an ass, and I went OOOH and then said DON'T LET HIM TREAT YOU THAT WAY out loud, and it's good that pro wrestling can still get me to have that type of reaction. TA comes off like a punk. He's too deferential to Wrestling II. He didn't even sign the contract for the title shot because it's ruining the friendships between him, Wrestling II, and JYD. Fuck that shit. Knock Wrestling II out and sign the contract, dammit! This angle rules and is a great role for an over-the-hill former champ that the crowd still loves. "Over-the-hill beloved face gets desperate that his time is up and turns heel" is a great bit of character development. EDIT: I swear to fuck, if this punk bitch TA doesn't stop letting Wrestling II slap him... EDIT #2: As Watts dressed down Wrestling II, he said basically You helped this guy get to where you said he could go, and you should be proud of him and not jealous of him and some woman in the crowd says RIGHT really loudly, and all the justice and truth in the world was in her loud agreement with Watts. I love professional wrestling. EDIT #3: OK, this Mr. Wrestling II/TA angle will be one of my all-time favorites if it even remotely stays as hot as it is right now. That 3/3/84 Mid-South is AMAZING because of this angle. Watts stuffs multiple angry Mr. Wrestling interviews, two slaps, a contract buyout, and a throwing in of the towel with a twist into this angle, and it all works. This is a sublime hour of pro wrestling. Holy shit. One of the best things I've ever seen. TA coming out and saving Wrestling II, getting beat up, and finding a way to survive the Russian backbreaker, but not getting the three count because Wrestling II threw the towel in was a hell of a sequence. But man, when TA actually starts fighting back, the Boys' Club crowd is going to explode. Also, so will I.

  37. I know there are plenty of people online posting their thoughts on PSVR 2 so I'll keep mine brief, but overall its been an enjoyable experience. Setup was easy but I discovered I needed two more things - a floor lamp (my game room is kinda dark) and some compatible headphones. The only "out of the box" option is earbuds but I really don't like earbuds so getting some Pulse 3D headphones. As far as my motion sickness goes, I'm one of those types that if the games use "teleport" movement I'm fine, but locomotive movement does very slowly give me motion sickness. The Star Wars game has the teleport option so I've been playing that, its a pretty basic game but I've really been enjoying it. I still am not sure its worth $500 but as someone that has tried VR in the past and is a fan of the tech, I haven't regretted it or wanted to return it like I did the original Oculus and PSVR, so that's a positive step.

  38. Decided to pick up the original Full Gear 2019 PPV with my FITE credits. I'm here mostly for PAC vs Adam Page, but this has all kinds of wonderful stuff, including Cody vs Chris Jericho for the title. It was odd to hear the crowd NOT singing along with Judas during Jericho's entrance. I need to come back to this again, since the ending night shift meant me drifting in and out of consciousness. Just witnessing MJF becoming the asshole he's known today was something else!

  39. I'll second this - Bill was great this week in the tag match, and he's gotten in fantastic shape. I didn't get to see a ton of his post-WWE stuff (I know he had a personal issue early on) but I recently caught him wrestling Curt Hawkins in a no DQ match on the TNA Pluto channel (not sure when it actually aired) and he was tremendous there too with similar oomph to that which we saw Weds night, so I'm really glad to see him getting a shot. No slander on the Firm, but I'd like to see Bill move up the card a bit at some point - even if not pushed to the moon, maybe eat a couple of those 'vanquish the monster' pins that have unfortunately fallen at Lance Archer's feet over the last couple years, and share the load a bit there. Plenty of fun to be had in either men's undercard title scene, too: he could have good big man matches with Joe and Wardlow, or toss Darby around a bunch in the TNT division - as far as the AA title, I don't know if Big Bill would be open to doing anything comedic-leaning, but I think there could be some mileage in him being the frustrated Elmer Fudd-straight man to OC's Bugs Bunny.

  41. I forgot to comment yesterday. I thought the show was pretty good. I'll have to find OC/Yuta because I missed that match. But I enjoyed the rest of the show. Uno vs. Mox was way better than it had any right to be. I wasn't expecting Uno to bleed a ton but he did. Mox needs to go a week without some blood. I like blood in matches, but it's getting ridiculous with him every week. I agree with the notion that I would have saved it for the go home show. Page needs a big win and I hope he comes out on top in this.

  45. I've been grumbling and troll-hunting all day and I always feel bad when I come here and do anything other than talk about the good wrestling I watched + why it's good SO I gotta balance things out again The Viernes Espectacular that CMLL uploaded this week (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sr-aZ2Y5N-s) really really rocked, in the sense that nothing was a MOTYC but everything was at a bare minimum "great" and showcased a ton of talent. The company has become my #2 active promotion until I find somebody from Japan that's more interesting than my late-nite archive.org deep dives (basically you have to be better than Erotic Terrorist Yingling-era HUSTLE and it turns out that's a high bar). I wanna find a better avenue to pimp/shill/boost all my guys. Panterita Del Ring Jr. and Soberano Jr. and Fugaz and more than a few others are really gettin' my blood flowing, Atlantis Jr. is paying off, Mistico is Mistico again and way better for it and all the dudes who already ruled still rule. They're undergoing their own "women's revolution" and it's been pretty engaging. I wouldn't say I watch every week but I watch most weeks and every time I check in I come to the conclusion that WAY MORE PEOPLE should be talking about this stuff given the match quality, production values, and ease of viewing. I just wish their YouTube channel was better organized and more English-friendly, it really wouldn't take that much more work.

  48. No NBA, The Challenge finale was last week, the crowd was hot and sounded good on TV, solid segments kept viewers on the hook, ratings fluctuate all on their own and Nielsens are irrelevant in 2023. Because pro wrestling is a fake sport watched by fans of real sports, you have a situation where the fanbase craves some objective numbers to measure how well a team (or in this case, promotion) is doing. So you have huge chunks of the IWC squawking about numbers that they care about more than any TV exec. Let these ratings both remind you that pro wrestling is in a very good place right now and that none of this shit matters.

He would often tell us of how he and his family would survive the Saskatchewan winter in a tent with his 14 brothers and sisters by listening to old reggae albums they had found. Whenever I would call home from the road, and talk about problems I was facing, he'd often say to me "“If you get down and quarrel every day, you’re saying prayers to the devils, I say.” which at the time I just thought was an old timey shooters way of saying not to go looking for conflict. I later discovered he was quoting Bob Marley. I really don't know what she ever saw in that lousy no good Chris Brown. I think when you look at him you see someone who was sloppy and didn't take pride in his work. If you were on the road in lonely hotel rooms with the boys travelling up and down the road on tour with this guy, would you trust him to get you home safely to your wife and kids? Something a lot of the boys would thank me for when I was on top, and I took great pride in. I think my brother Owen would have taken great pride in prank calling Chris Brown and pretending to be legendary 1950s wrestling promoter Sam Muchnick. He'd have him in fits trying to work out who it was and get really hot. I really miss that."
