  1. Evil Uno is the Bunny of male wrestlers: a God Damn draw.

  2. No NBA, The Challenge finale was last week, the crowd was hot and sounded good on TV, solid segments kept viewers on the hook, ratings fluctuate all on their own and Nielsens are irrelevant in 2023. Because pro wrestling is a fake sport watched by fans of real sports, you have a situation where the fanbase craves some objective numbers to measure how well a team (or in this case, promotion) is doing. So you have huge chunks of the IWC squawking about numbers that they care about more than any TV exec. Let these ratings both remind you that pro wrestling is in a very good place right now and that none of this shit matters.

  3. Since you're one of the four or five posters who meets this criteria on this board - there are people out there who actually get upset when a televised pro-wrestling show does a good rating because it conflicts with their negative projections and enjoyment of a fanbase's disappointment. I'd call that a stranger bunch.

  4. Sorry for more effusive praise of the genius that is OC. But I really think he is at the Danielson level of being able to have a good match with literally anyone. Obviously they would be different matches but it is just insane how many good matches he has with so many different people. OC could carry me to a watchable match.

  5. Dear god this OC/Yuta match is fantastic. I know I say it for literally every one of his matches but OC is a genius. He might not be the best worker in the world but he is my favorite and also he might be the best. All of these matches are so ridiculously laid out for the story they are telling. His shtick elevates the story instead of being the story. And OC also rally has incredible timing in moving from shtick to stepping up his game and showing ferocity and then reverting back to being cool. Someone like Yuta or PAC are such great foils for him because they are such awesome juxtapositions in being ultra serious, so his mind games really work. This is such a great story of each guy knowing everything the other guy can do and using their own moves against each other. The announce team really did a great job showing how serious OC was getting in that match. Yuta was a great prick. The end of the match felt a lot like OC giving his finger to everyone who craps on him (if anyone even does anymore) because he is so so so so so great. My one note: Yuta in his promo on Rampage said he was bullied by Trent but he seems to respond favorably when Claudio slaps him in the face and scolds him like a child for thinking about hugging OC post-match. Small notes. This was another OC classic and we are so lucky we get to see him pull these things out. Like I said a few weeks ago: He is The Fountains of Wayne of pro wrestling. If you only know them from Stacy’s Mom then I apologize. But those of us who are fans recognize them as writing nothing but perfectly crafted power-pop songs for multiple albums that sound simple and disposable but when you break them down are so singularly brilliant.

  9. I still have Uno vs Mox to go but the crowd really helped that show. Obviously the MJF/Danielson promo/segment was heated. I'm not going to speculate, but I will point out that maybe too much of what's going on right now is subtext instead of text. To defeat Moxley, MJF took not his own shortcut but Regal's shortcut. To try to regain face, his own autonomy, he immediately betrayed Regal at the first opportunity. Danielson, already hurting from Regal's betrayal and unable to get any sort of proper closure with Regal, targeted MJF in response. MJF dodged him. Danielson, who puts everything on the line to wrestle even though he doesn't have to, took offense in MJF, who only wrestles when he absolutely has to, and decided that the best way to embarrass and expose him as an empty/worthless champion, is with an ironman match. MJF put barriers in front of him and shifted to trying to damage him going into the match. Danielson is damaged, but doesn't seem worried or bothered in the least. MJF, who has been talking big, telling stories, and doing sneak attacks to try to make it seem like he's a bad man, panics more and more and attacks Danielson on the mic the only way he knows how, making things personal. Danielson finally takes it personally instead of just the indirect offenses of what happened to Regal (who kind of deserved it and we all know it, even Bryan) and the general honor of pro wrestling/a title. Now they have a 60 minute match ahead of them with Danielson sporting a wounded arm, MJF spiraling out and acting erratically, and Danielson legitimately angry for the first time in this entire feud. In that regard it feels a little like unintended consequences. The ironman match made sense for January, not for March, but they're trapped in it, and I think it's going to be a test for Danielson on how he works it. Does he work it like it's still January and he's content on punishing and exposing MJF or can he make the idea that it's now personal somehow resonate through the entirety of the 60 minutes, especially on a card that's also going to have the Mox/Hangman Texas death match. Every time Danielson goes out, he's judged not against what else is on the show or what Reigns is doing that week, but against history because he's a GOAT contender. Here's a great opportunity for him. I'm curious to see how he does or doesn't transfer last night into next Sunday.

  13. Work news: One of my appeals was granted Oral Arguments in the 7th Court of Appeals. A first for me! Extraordinarily rare. Even the appeals I've won weren't granted oral arguments, and ones I've lost that were published and had a pretty detailed dissent did not have oral arguments, so this is all pretty neat. It's "real lawyer shit" is what I've been told. Funny thing is my wife helps me so much with all the appeals (because she understands the law way better than me -- I'm a mouthpiece), she's the real lawyer.

  15. The single best part of that match was the aftermath, with every Mox stan on social media losing their GD minds because he lost to the "jobber" Yano. Everyone is sleeping on the "HOLY SHIT" chant for AD absolutely leveling MJF with that punch at the end. Either MJF is God-tier at selling or he got KTFO'd for real. I feel like that match is going to feature a) MJF knocking AD out with the ring to get DQ'd, only to spam falls as AD is "out" and can't continue, and/or b) AD tapping MJF and keeping it cinched in for a DQ to incapacitate MJF and spam falls that way. Time shall tell. Mox REALLY needed to save that blood for the actual match because Jeeeeeeeesus.

  17. On MJF - I don't like it. The suicide stuff has no place in a form of entertainment that's otherwise so escapist, and in one that has had so many tragedies of a similar nature. Significant portions of that locker room were and still are affected by Sweeney, Daffney, Hana, Kanyon, Benoit, etc. Being the embodiment of every Type B Personality Disorder is not the edgy, modern gimmick the world needs. Histrionic narcissism and violent, rejection-based dysphoria are fun when used in very broad strokes to define a heel, but this isn't that. I haven't felt comfortable sharing this theory in public, but if this is the way they want to present this than I feel better about wondering it aloud - Given the "realness" of MJF's ADD stories and promo against William Regal, I think MJF's no-show / tanking of the Wardlow match could have been a legitimate mental health incident that the company covered for / kayfabed. I think the awkward amount of time between the stretcher job and the devil mask comeback could have been to make time for a mental health break. I take no joy in speculating on this, I just see patterns. I understand you're supposed to use your personal experiences to cut better promos but a lot of people don't realize theater isn't therapy. It's not mentally healthy for the performer to have their struggles applauded for being a viable storytelling device. I'd like to be wrong about this and feel icky for sharing my thoughts, but they're running this stuff on TV.

  18. JANE! YUTA! Well, THIS is awesome. I LOVE the Lucha mat work. Claudio comes out and presses Wheeler Yuta's DICK button! BIG BILL GETS POSTED! BOWEN AND MORIARTY TAKE IT TO THE MAT! ELBOW FROM THE TOP BY CASTER! THE CROWD FREAKS OUT! They go all Bill Watts with Christian Cage. Saraya is limited but they make up for it by having Toni Storm demolish Skye Blue on the floor. Skye Blue looks good in this. Cool submission by Saraya. Jamie Hayter and Britt Baker turn babyface! Ruby Soho stays a tweener- not that kind of tweener, but a between TEAM HAYTER and TEAM SARAYA, wanting a match with Hayter! Bryan Danielson is OVER in Phoenix. 19. Scans were encouraging. Spots on my lungs are slightly smaller. No growth or new spots/tumors/nodules. No further spread. Chemo is over, I’ve going to go in once every three weeks for the next two years for Immunotherapy. Only takes 30-40 minutes, but the oncologist is in another state two hours away. My choice. We live in a college town with a well-respected cancer center as part of the university hospital, but when I was first diagnosed nine years ago, we decided to go out of state. Local docs wanted to simply remove my right lung. Doc we went with removed 2 lobes of right lung, but saved part of it. It’s much easier to live a mostly normal life with 1.5 lungs than it is with 1.0. Fun fact: the surgery to remove an entire lung is fairly straightforward compared to the surgery to cut out part of a lung. Removing the lung would have taken two hours. Removing half my lung took almost 14 hours. And then I started chemo. Anyway, situation looks to be improving, I’m not expecting too much from the future, so we’ll see where this goes.

  20. The MJF promo did not sit well with me either. All the other complaints aside, I'm mainly concerned about MJF now. I agree that mentioning suicide in his promo in that context was a bridge too far.

  21. Thursday Reflections: The Yuta/ Cassidy was awesome because it was an extended Malenko/Guerrero roll-up sequence broken up by massive violence. It would always come down to a roll-up sequence after no matter where the match went. Big Bill does a full Rick Rude groinular gyration in the INTERNATIONAL FEED and Big Bill is maybe the greatest professional wrestlers to ever enter the squared circle. Big Bill and Moriarty are the secret great heel tagteam of AEW. Saraya not quite keeping up with Skye Blue makes me think that Ruby Soho will be doing a lot of the heavy lifting in the three way. I like Saraya and am going for her even though US women's wrestling has passed her by. She can be an old school heat machine and they should definitely work around her inadequacies in the ring. Jeff Jarrett takes over the battle royal during the second picture in picture, assaulting Trent at ringside with chairs. A battle royal makes my head hurt but I love how AEW gets so much mileage out of such a goofy concept. Taz after Evil Uno comes off the top to the floor, "That's like a Fiat landing on ya." MOX is to the Dark Order what Bryan Danielson is to the New Signees of AEW- the best matches they have had- Hangman and then Preston Vance and now Evil Uno. I await the glory of MOX vs John Silver and the inevitable MOX vs Alex Reynolds.

  23. Orange/Yuta was absolutely awesome. Loved it, one of my favorite matches of the year so far. Excellent definitive ending after a great story told throughout. I love Orange's title run, hope it goes as long as possible. Great hot crowd for the Phoenix debut. Also found it amusing that it looked like Bryan/MJF were wearing matching outfits once they started fighting. Liked Skye/Saraya while it lasted. Tag battle was fun. Popped for Orange making the save, leading to great bit of last hope for Trent even when Jarrett/Lethal were always the obvious winners. I enjoy the Jarrett/Lethal team. Nice short main event with crazy bloodshed.

  27. Speedball Mike Bailey and Jonathan Gresham take on the Motor City Machine Guns! This is an IMPACT! version of a Young Bucks match because it is just chock full of stuff! Speedball is AWESOME transitioning to offence. Gresham is SUPER fun in this. So Gresham and Speedball should get the belts. Speedball with a BEAUTIFUL submission. Speedball rules so fucking hard. Gresham tags in all hell breaks loose! Gresham with the Figure Four on Shelley! Sabin powerbombs Speedball onto Gresham to break it up! Gresham accidentally hits Speedball! MCMGs hit an very elaborate finish that Gresham makes look great. That was fucking great. That was a great piece of professional wrestling. It's John Skyler and Jason Hotch. It's Tommy Dreamer. Top Rope Death Valley Driver in one minute, fifteen seconds. Taya Valkarie, who is REALLY all over the place. She just needs to show up in Tokyo Joshi Pro or Stardom. Allysin Kay! She was Sienna and she was a KnockOuts champion! And then they killed off Allie! They bring the STIFF from the get go! Man, Taya will fucking lay it in. Kay looks great in this. Taya wins the BUTT CHALLENGE! Kay matches Taya's STIFFNESS with an elbow to the mouth. Blue Thunder Bomb by Taya! Taya goes Negro Navarro but Kay hits the rope. Kay CRUSHES Taya with a Big Bang Theory! Marti Belle gets on the apron! Rosemary crushes her head with an elbow! Kay hits her finisher and gets the win! What a big night of wrestling! Rich Swann goes for the TONY! They ALMOST broke the contract signing table. Frankie Kazarian and Yuya Uemura take on Callihan and Deaner! Kaz looks good in this. Yuya with the Power Driver! Yuya becomes our face in peril and the crowd gets behind his struggle to escape the grimy offense of the Design. HOT TAG to KAZ! KAz is way fun! NICE Exploider by Callihan! Yuya is awesome making the SECOND hot tag! Deaner abandons Callihan and Kaz procures the Cross Wing Chicken Face for the win! This Design shit is so stupid. It's Bully Ray. It's Bhupinder Gujjar. Bully Ray uses a chain. That was a waste. Tommy Dreamer gives Bhupinder a pep talk. So it's less of a waste. MONSTER'S BALL! Trey Miguel and Crazzy Steve! Black Taurus would be a waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay better wrestler to be in this, but whatchagonnado? Miguel bumps HUGE for Steve. JESUS! Miguel goes up BIG for a crazy bump onto a bunch of chairs. Crazzy Steve is bleeding! Steve staples Miguel's jiminy winkie! Miguel brings out the black bag! Black Hole Slam on the tacks! They keep going. Double clothesline into the tacks! Death Valley Driver through the table! FOR TWO! GREAT CANADIAN DESTROYER ON THE TACKS! Miguel made that look absolutely AWESOME. Miguel is bleeding! GREAT BARBED WIRE BOARD SPOT! That was fucking HARDCORE! That was GREAT! YAY! IMPACT! RULES!

  29. OC vs Yuta was good stuff. Really liked Claudio's presence being the transition from respectful, competitive chain wrestling to a more heated, aggressive Yuta and how the match escalated from there. OC's Orange Punch is still a laughable finisher but I did like how much of an exclamation mark was put on that ending. And Claudio/Yuta walking out smartly set the scene for the BCC being heels going into the main event. I'll be in the group who enjoyed the Bryan vs MJF promo. I mean I didn't love it or anything, and MJF's act is what it is, but I do enjoy the depth they bring to his character. Yes, he is a total scumbag and villain, but he's not just bad for the sake of bad - he's a broken, flawed human being in and out of the ring. Saraya and this whole womens' division angle is auto-skip material for me at this point. There are much more interesting match-ups for Hayter's title run and at this point I'd even be more interested than a predictable Britt vs Hayter break up. Satnam is a wonderful heater for the JJ group. They use him much better than WWE has used any Green Giant in years and years. Compare to how he is used vs Omos and it is night and day. I can get Lethal/Jarrett winning despite having recently feuded with the Acclaimed, I can see them going with 3 heel teams to really keep the Acclaimed hot, but I'm not sure who's the fourth team. Maybe Lucha Bros? Are they still heel? Would be a while since they've been left off PPV. Moxley vs Uno was good fun and achieved what it needed to. Heck, it could have gone a beat longer if anything. Uno is one of those indy guys who kinda sucked in his prime but improved as the years piled on and he reached veteran status. The Moxley vs Page feud has been pretty rad, though I don't disagree with those saying Mox bleeds too regularly. Maybe the barbwire should have been saved for the go home as the last bit of juice to have Page escalating the violence Moxley-style. I enjoy Moxley way more than I do Page, but Page absolutely is the right guy to go over here. Strong start and finish this week, thought the middle was pretty blah though.

  31. Re: International Feed (Audio Effects: Karaoke Filter – cuts commentary, (so grateful to be able to watch with) crowd and ringside audio only) To no one's surprise Yuta and Orange put on an absolute delight! I was secretly rooting for the draw, but was happy with the Cassidy win. Special kudos to Claudio for all his great work here. Hot crowd and hot off the drop. Is Renee doing Norma Jean this week? Nice promo from Uno. Nicely executed promo segment from Ricky Starks followed. Jericho was solid here too. They need to find more ways to showcase Ricky as the smooth operator, yeah Sade style. I’m with @Dean on the awesome duo of Big Bill and young Lee. Lee’s really getting that air guitar down like a pro! I like how this pair has served up the Jobs, but before it’s over I’d like a bit of a run. Gold? Maybe. Thanks in part to our heels, the Acclaimed look really good here. Nice finish. I think they’d be wise to give the Gunns some TV wins going into the (ugh!) 4 way. Loved the Cage-Jungle Boy segment –the absolute antithesis to those lengthy WWE promo segments I ffwd thru every week. I was only half watching Saraya and Skye Blue, but I dug what I saw. Absolutely! I also get the impression that Saraya has more to offer on the other side of 'shaking off off the ring rust'. Crowd was into Skye for some of this, but I’m guessing it was during the PiP? Toni is so good, other than the blatant cheating in front of blind Aubrey while on the apron. I wonder if maybe it’s time to move on from the clearly failing spray cans experiment. Good Hayter promo followed, but I hate the logic of the Champion putting herself in a Triple Threat match. Excellent promo segment with Danielson and MJF. Obviously minus the nonsense of Danielson standing around after the threat while Max cuts wise on his family. The brawl was excellent here. Great finish! I also like that they took a breath to recap it. The Battle Royal was fine. Too much nonsense tho. I’m with the thinking that these Battle Royals oughtta have some tighter rules. I sense a few ppl are coming around on the Memphis Excellence of Jarrett/Lethal/Dutt/Satnam. Two battle royals to determine two opponents for a PPV match is not one of the better AEW creative ideas. House of Black with a fairly concise promo – better than usual. I was hoping for a similar level of letdown TK announcement for the ROH TV show. Yeah, Adam Jesus Cole! Just a simple blow dry I bet! I’m game for All Access, looking forward to it even. Moxley and Uno had a nice little battle there. Uno jumping from shirts to skins as he’s been doing lately isn’t a great Visual choice. Wow, I could not believe what I was seeing on that finish. Blood gushing out of the Evil One's mask and head. Wait, what the fuck was that music playing when Hangman came running down? Please don’t tell me they’ve switched him away from arguably their best original theme. Deep breath. Terrific show as per usual!

  33. Regarding Daddy Magic, any time my friends or me cut a jokey promo we just wind up sounding like how Daddy Magic sounds, minus the accent. It's like if you threw an early Macho Man WWF promo, any Ric Flair promo, a Rock promo, and an Austin promo into a blender. I love Jericho getting outsmarted. Last time it happened was with the match against Scorpio Sky. This was pretty much the same thing, but old man Jericho leans into it so much that it works.

  34. Very fun show and a big step up from last week. Really appreciate Evil Uno going all out for a 10min match since he knows these type of serious singles matches come very rarely for him. He made the most of it. That first piledriver he did on Mox was BRUTAL. Starks-Jericho could have been a nothing segment but was super entertaining due to Stark playing it up any time Jericho wasn't looking at him. I was very sports entertained for those few minutes.

  35. I really liked the Jamie Hayter/Britt segment. It was cool because Jamie did the talking while Britt was an engaged second. That is a good flip because we are so used to the opposite. It makes Jamie look really strong in a subtle way but it also makes Britt look like a really good member of their partnership. Britt has so much presence that it is easy for her to gobble up the scenery (which is also part of her character) but taking a backseat of sorts gives some good subtle shine for Jamie.

  36. It's a huge mistake, let me tell you. My sister and I are both "M"s. And my three kids are all "C" and it's cute, right? Except for that at 41, I'm constantly starting to tell one kid to do something and I just snatch out of my ADHD-ridden brain the other C name in the moment. My late 80+ year old, eventually senile grandmother used to do that with my dad and his two brothers even though they had different letters starting their name but I wasn't supposed to be constantly doing it 40 years earlier. So then I have to spin and be all.. "........... tell your sister to..."

    3 points
  42. Wheeler-OC was great, at first I thought it was thrown together too fast but they did a good job of putting it across in ring as sort of a culmination of the original split, with Yuta showing how he’s gotten way tougher and thus making OC have to fight a lot harder. Whoever called it a great 3 act story was spot on. Would be interesting if Claudio/BCC toughness eventually costs Yuta the Pure title for closed fists. Honestly, I wouldn’t mind both dropping their ROH belts and getting into the tag title scene. Starks-Jericho promo was very Bugs Bunny-Daffy Duck, let’s see what happens with the match. What was next, Acclaimed-Firm? Max’s rap was good, Big Bill was funny. Christian-Jack Perry was a decent brawl but I’m not invested in the story. Saraya-Skye did a decent job of putting over Skye, who totally carried the match and dealt with multiple Saraya botches. Post-match was more straightforward than my convulsed booking, but I still think Ruby forms a third group. PPV could be good if they focus on Ruby and Hayter. I liked the second half of the MJF promo which he mostly stole from greater talkers, the suicide bit was disgusting. Brawl was solid, I want Bryan to win but I know he won’t and MJF is going to say lots more dumb 4chan shit and wrestle every 6 weeks. Battle Royale, as always, was a mess but set up some matches I want to see, ok mostly Aussie Open-Top Flight. Satnam was fun. Fenix lasted longer than Penta. Going by the graphic, 2.0 is going to win next week. Have no opinion about the announcement or Adam Cole, other than I don’t think I’ll watch the show. But it makes the Network happy and I guess it can help turn Cole face, I don’t know. Main...I honestly thought it should’ve been more of a squash. Seeing UNO’s loose mask early in the night made me realize he was going to bleed, and boy did he ever, especially in the final choke sequence.
