  1. They got the full card up on the English Language website. I’m going to be in attendance I’ve been toying with starting a thread for the show but fuck it here we are this kinda means I gotta write a road report but cool let’s do this! https://www.njpw1972.com/142769 Kickoff Show: Main Show:

  2. Two very good matches and a lot of squashes for Elevation tonight. Highlight was Emi and Nyla vs. Skye Blue and Madison Rayne. Vickie was way over in El Paso, of course. Not a whole lot of the usual shenanigans in this one, it was more of the Emi who went blow for blow with Jayme Hayter, and now I really want to see Emi vs. Skye Blue getting some time on Dynamite or Rampage. If you only watch one match from tonight, it should be this one. Yuka Sakazaki vs. Vertvixen was the other good, semi-competitive match. Yuka has some surprising power for being so small, I guess she truly is a magical girl. Vertvixen has a lot of promise. The Big Bill squash is pretty fun, and there is a long, strange backstage segment with Ethan Page and Matt Hardy. Otherwise, nothing worth taking time to watch.

  3. A couple years ago, when my son got into Star Wars, we watched everything. I was surprised that I actually liked the prequels more on re-watch than I remembered. I'd agree with your assessments of them, though. One thing that stuck out is the scene at the end of Ep. II where all of the Jedi show up. That scene should have been the big battle at the end of Endgame, but it comes off so rinky-dink. It's so anti-climatic. It just looks so cheap (which it definitely wasn't!). Initially, I was fine with Ep. 7 and 8. Rise of Skywalker might be the worst of all of the movies, IMO. The more I think about these three, the more I sour on them. I just don't like that they did such a reset. It's like the events of the original trilogy didn't matter at all. We just ended up with the exact same type of Empire running things.

  4. I took a nap. The Dark Order are a total machine when it comes to hitting their finisher. Where is Matt Hardy headed with this? It's Gino Rodriguez! The new king of enhancement talent across all promotions. Big Bill tells a little story- "Gino is over because I tower over him. I will give him a few things and then chokeslam him from the stratosphere." It's that Delilah Doom gal that MJF is hanging around. Dulce Tormenta is good. Leila Grey showboats in front of Jade Cargill. Jade Cargill comes in and wins. I don't think I've seen Jastin Taylor before. Brian Cage would usually tell a little story. Instead he hits a thousand moves and wins. Emi Sakura and Nyla Rose take on Madison Rayne and Skye Blue. Nyla and Skye do a really cool wad of counters that ends up with Skye getting murderlized. EMI tags in! SPANKYBUTT! EMI hits a crossbody through the ropes! VICKIE WITH THE SPEAR! VICKIE IS OVER IN EL PASO! EMI works over Skye! EMI Crossbody Blocks on the floor! Nyla CRUSHES Rayne with a move! Yuka Sakazaki! We are in Texas so we have Vertvixen! They should go ahead and sign her. Vert gets a CLOSE nearfall! Wee Yuka with an Airplane Spin! Magical Girl Splash and that's that. ATHENA! BEATS ON YUKA! HEAT IT UP! ATHENA! ATHENA! ATHENA! It's Josh Woods! Sweet EVEREST GERMAN SUPLEX. This night is very much a Harlem Globetrotters vs the Washington Generals night of wrestling. Chuck Taylor and Trent Barretta take on Ayden Colt and Frank Stone. They get in a little and then they get destroyed by the DOUBLE FINISHERS of the Best Friends. That was a lot of squashes.

  6. Eagles fan checking in. disappointed with the result but it was a good game to cap off an overachieving season. was the holding call at the end bad? yeah. but that is hardly the reason the Eagles lost. it had a lot more to do with leaving receivers wide open multiple times, giving up an almost record length punt return, and not delivering on offense in the 2nd half.

  7. His time on top in TNA did him no favors, but Jarrett has always been a fun and good worker. There were a few bright spots during that time in TNA, too. As far as character stuff goes, though, it’s always been more miss than hit, but his time in AEW so far is great. And he’s implementing house shows and gaining access to new markets, so that’s a plus as well. Net gain all around on AEW’s end when it comes to Jarrett.

  8. BTW, between Georgia last month and KC tonight, I am officially sick and tired of teams that were in the top two or three pre-season favorites talking about nobody believing in them/"put some respect on our name."

  15. People have been using A.I. voice mimicking technology to make short, comedic videos, and two of the ones that have been popular are an argument between 'Roman' and 'Dave' about star ratings, and another series which imagines what a Gorilla Monsoon-hosted podcast would sound like. Warning: very NSFW language! Reigns v Meltzer: The Gorilla Pod (look up Joe Marotta's Twitter to see the rest, I think there's ~7-8 of them in total):

  18. What a great call by the ref there! We all know why we watch the Super Bowl! To see the ref make the game winning call! Pure fucking garbage for the Chiefs to be the beneficiary of controversial last minute plays that essentially hand them the game AGAIN. Let them fucking play. You can’t make that call.

  21. 8/31/90: Fantastics vs SCOTTY THE BODY/Kroffat: Scotty coming out and dancing about to his music in his 1990 jacket was both funny and over. This was a total spotfest, probably the biggest spotfest I've seen in a year and 2/3rds of AJPW. It starts with them going right at each other and a Rogers plancha and it never really looks back. Levy's totally over the top including one insane "jump over the rail" bump. Lots of guys flying around especially whenever he's in there. Kroffat grounds things a little more. Fantastics (who threw the discs before the match but still worked de facto heel) would have eaten Levy up even more but Rogers wiped out on a springboard clothesline. Finish was a DOUBLE SUPERPLEX on Scotty followed by the big flip off the top. Scotty was clumsy but got an A for effort and hey, you can't say it wasn't entertaining. 8/31/90: Taue/Fuchi/Inoue vs Misawa/Kawada/Kikuchi: So this was cool. We had the last 8-9 minutes pro shot but this was a handheld from the opposite angle. I stuck with it and then watched some select moments from the pro shot later. What I really liked about this is that it's our first trios with these guys without Jumbo anchoring things. Taue got announced last actually. Inoue and Kikuchi match up well, by the way. And I got a sense Kawada saw the previous match and wanted to out do it as he hit an early dive and then let himself get reversed on a suplex on the floor. The kids mostly dominated until it became Taue vs Kikuchi and he got jammed. There was a great moment where Inoue was battering Kikuchi on the outside with a chair and he made it back in and started shouting at him only to get beaten down by Fuchi and Taue (and because pro wrestling is awesome; this drew a Kikuchi chant). There was the usual long beatdown on Kikuchi that works so well. Eventually Kikuchi reversed a suplex of his own and Misawa made it in. There's still a buzz when Taue's in there against his former friends, and especially when it's Misawa. There was a good finishing stretch where they kept cycling. You could feel the groans when Inoue got up when Kikuchi was on the top and just lawn darted him across the ring, but he kept on surviving things he shouldn't have survived and it eventually ended up Fuchi and Kawada which made things a bit more unpredictable. There was actually an earlier moment where Fuchi had broken up a huge Kawada moonsault press into a pin and kept on stomping him. These fans were ok with a save but not with the extracurriculars that followed and he actually got huge heat for it. Anyway, Kawada finally got Misawa in and nailed Fuchi with a clothesline. The finish was Misawa knocking Fuchi out (legit? It felt like legit but sometimes that's working for you!) with a forearm off the top rope. He kicked at him a couple of times and tried to move him after but couldn't budge him so just shrugged and pinned him. A bunch of friendly slaps to the face later, they got Fuchi up and he left to a chant of his own. I'm isolating the trios match now (I never did that back when we got these apparently). It was a very cool experience to watch the same moves proshot from a different direction after the match and I suggest that. Let me get you the Scotty match now since you guys might enjoy super workrate Young Buck Raven.

  22. Okay some of the big things Next two seasons: Season of Defiance and Season of the Deep No more seasonal currencies. There will now be "keys" that drop that sound like they will carry from season to season When Season of the Deep hits - there will be no vendor upgrades that season AND they will not be raising the power/pinnacle cap Instead of season rank you will now get Guardian Ranks The overhaul of weapon crafting which you will have to read TL:DR section - Abilities going down some. Enemy damage going up some New Crucible map with Season of the Deep: Meltdown. (It appears it will be a different map with the same name as an older map). And then in the season before Final Shape - Citadel will return They will start using an Exotic Mission Rotator - weekly rotation. Will start with Presage, Vox Obscura and Seraph Station. Will provide some sort of updated rewards. Lake of Shadows and Arms Dealer have been reworked so (theoretically) folks can't nuke them anymore. Exodus Crash and The Inverted Spire will all but vanish until they are updated too. (You can play them directly but they wont be Nightfalls and will barely showup in the playlist). The various battlegrounds will be added to the Nightfall play list starting with the Mars Heist Battleground for Season of Defiance Exotic armor will no longer be tied to Lost Sectors and will go back to "core ritual activities" Getting all 3 ritual ornaments will no longer be seasonal quests The in-game Fireteam Finder won't show up now until The Final Shape

  23. It feels to me a way to rationalize deviating from the rules at all, which is a bit flimsy. It's ok for things in a match to break down and a ref to lose control for the finishing stretch. That's not the same as guys coming in and out to hit spots for the last ten minutes of a match like modern WWE Usos style.

  26. I posted my feelings about Skinamarink a few pages back. I found it to be somewhat unsettling, but I wasn't traumatized to the point that some people are saying on social media. It Is a film rife with interpretations that are equally blended by the movie's masterful use of liminal space. Are the events in the movie literal, allegorical, or perhaps both? It is up to each individual audience member to decide.

  27. Hey, sometimes you gotta goose 'em One of the all-night horror fests we used to have at the Art played it one time, but that was a pretty hardcore audience. The fact that he bummed people out with that one gives me hope that sometimes horror can still shock.

  28. So it was a hold, it was just... the thing is if they had been calling that type of thing all game, I'd roll my eyes but think 'well at least they are consistent.' The referees waited 58 minutes of game time to call the first Hold and you can't convince me there wasn't a single hold up to that point. So if they are 'letting them play' unless they do something terrible, I'm ok with that, but I want the referees to call the same way for both teams from start to finish. I think that is the base of everyone's frustration, it had been such a penalty-free game for subjective calls (I want to say there were two such calls without looking it up, the PI and the Hands to the Face) that it felt out of place to wait until the last drive to make such a major call.

  29. There's no good way to make holding calls consistent. Holding pretty much happens on every play. It's like the fouls in basketball where more consistency probably makes the product worse.

  36. I think Dax maybe tougher than I am, but I very much relate to him and find him endearing. I’m cheering for him on his personal journey. I really connected with his talk on anxiety and making it clear that he was addressing his mindset and mental state at the time when he was feeling bitter and what he was dealing with in his personal life. A miscarriage is absolutely heartbreaking and I hope their family is doing alright. I understand the headspace of feeling you’re overlooked. I’m not a wrestler but I’ve felt like that at work. Feeling under appreciated, true or not, can be caused by anxiety in a competitive environment. I agree with Dax that the fallout of the Young Bucks match could have been better for FTR. Retrospective fantasy booking you give them a promo and have them work through other teams to get their groove back, etc. Also have the announcers point out the going out of their element and losing because of it would have been a nice touch. I respect that Dax takes responsibility for that and not pointing out he wanted that. I disagree with Dax that the post match angle diminished the match. Going to the next storyline (especially what became a great one for the company) was the right move to make. Flair vs Steamboat wasn’t hurt by switching to Flair vs Funk. Also, the amount of other titles they held, they were clearly on par with the Bucks as the 1a - 1b teams. The issue might be there was no payoff, but that’s a different point to argue. I really think Matt is an instigator in these situations and sadly Dax can be easy to get going. He does have a tough job to bring these topics up, I just think he can be leading a bit at times. I’m really pulling for Dax and will keep listening to him. —— I miss Regal. Give us a monthly Fireside Chat w/ Regal pod. But instead of a cohost you have a rookie ask him a question like how to do a headlock. Hour later we learn the history of British wrestling an a couple of fun anecdotes.

  37. Watching now. Mark Briscoe's eyes bugging out of his skull whenever he got interrupted was hilarious. Interrupted promos being par for the course in AEW just makes his reaction even funnier.

  38. Butcher's like a carny strongman at the circus now. It's awesome. You can't beat Kip enough for me to like him, but it sure looks good seeing him get it. In the same fashion will be Preston Vance running into the woodchipper that is BCC. Ruby finally got it -- STIFF is the WAY. She always takes a good licking but adding legit offense has raised her game to the top. I still like Shafir a lot and am willing to wait and watch her evolve unlike some. The Black History Month quote coming from somebody who looks like a Stormfront member was kinda weird. Who is gonna crack the code of Orange? I mean he even beat Shibata. It's gonna be Ibushi, isn't it?

  39. Hey do you think Wheeler's emerald green and white/silver gear is meant as a tip of the hat to someone or something from pro wrestling's past? Like how Eddie Kingston's black and yellow gear is a nod to Toshiaki Kawada? I think It might be. Not sure who, though. Ooooo. Darby & Ortiz vs Mad King & ? YEAH! LET'S GO! I think the Impractical Jokers were actually talking about Jericho's penis. You might have missed that because it was so subt!e and clever. Swerve vs Dustin should be great. I think if I HAD TO choose one, I'd rather watch Dana White Presents Slapfighting over Impractical Jokers. Fortunately, I do not have to watch either. I CHOOSE PRO WRESTLING! I enjoyed Ruby's confused/conflicted facial expressions. Josh Woods vs Mark Briscoe should be great. "Swoleverine" is pretty funny, in my opinion. But so is "Gordlow" in my opinion. So, my opinion about what's funny might not count for much. Speaking of: "I ate his ass..." - Hangman Page. Nice pop for The AEW All Atlantic Champion. VERY fun main event with a couple of ROUGH-looking bumps. As always, hats off to Satnam's tailor.

  41. Mark not showing up with a Cool Whip container will suck and we'll probably all end up crying but it'll be good to see him say something. I'm totally down for the women's, six-man, and the Orange Oddity Match (because all of his mismatches -- because nobody can really match him after all -- rule). This should be a great episode.
