  1. In short: the Snyderverse was very much not for me. This sounds much closer to what I'd want.

  2. This is true: Tomorrow is promised to no one, but if we can be remembered by our people the way Jamin Pugh’s people remembered him, then we will have lived a good life.

  4. Just got out of surgery and bulled through RAW so I'll watch this in the morning. Night night!

  5. I'm stealing this from Reddit because fuck it, it made me laugh my ass off. I love Sami so much. The rest of the thread on Reddit is a bunch of Sami stories with Sami going full Larry David in most aspects of life. I'm also happy Sami has been wrestling in this era and not during the 80s or something. I could see him getting knifed or horribly ribbed back then.

  6. Just got out of surgery so I missed the first 40 minutes of so. I saw the IYO SKY vs Candice LaRey and it was pretty good. LaRey trained Britt Baker so it was a good indication of how WWE HOUSE-STYLE~! makes styles mesh, while Hayter and Storm are leading the charge differentiating the differences between Joshi and US style- so I'm assuming Baker vs Shida will start looking way more off kilter than this match did. Gargano leans into Corbin's very good offense like a champ! Gargano has a comically unstiff offense but looks good coming from behind and pulling out the win. RICK BOOGS! Is really strong! There is a lot of stuff I usually fast forward through so I have lots of time to call me wife, have my blood sugar checked (148! That ain't good. But I did have some cranapple juice POSTOP~!), watch BTE- so thank you, WWE, for being the ANTI-RAMPAGE! You really give me time to get some stuff in. HEY! It's CHELSEA GREEN! She's good! Piper Niven is Piper Niven! IT"S BattlARTS DOLPH ZIGGLER! Mustapha Ali is a JERK to DOLPH! It's BRONSON REED! This would be a good RAMPAGE middle match. Reed hits the Fat Boy Roll! Ziggler gets in some stuff. NICE Powerbomb by REED followed by his truly HELLISH Tsunami! That was good. Hey! It's Carmella! Asuka IS Gene Simmons! It's CODY RHODES! It'd FINN BALOR! Cody haits a Davey Boy Smith INVERTED Lateral Suplex! Cody will now have eternel DDP ribs with his pec. Cody beats up on the Judgement Day! As we watch in picture in picture, one can assume something will start our next feud with Cody. Maybe not. Cody hits a SWEET Toprope Brainbuster! A bit of Memphis punching section. Cody Cutter for two! Superkick for two! EDGE is BACK! SPEAR on Dom! EDGE'S WIFE! BETH PHOENIX AND HER AWWWWESOME HAIR SPEARS RHEA! LOCOMOTIONS CROSSROADS for the win! That was GOOD! Main event saves the episode from feeling like a midgrade episode of IMPACT!

  7. AEW is straight up doing weekly PPV quality cards now. Maybe I need to be grateful for Jeff Jarrett showing up! Weekly PPVs are kind of a Jarrett thing, right? Dragon vs Thatcher is a genuine DREAM MATCH. I am WAY more stoked for this than for Bryan vs MJF. Mox vs Hangman III is FOR SURE a PPV level bout and will be STIFF AS FUCK. Joe vs Darby... Ditto, plus insanity. Jade vs Velvet has been building for a long time. Takeshita vs Cage should be ALL ACTION and also innovative, for people who like that kind of thing. And Acclaimed "in action" (hopefully against Workhorsemen or Outrunners)! I prefer Acclaimed in the ring to Acclaimed doing skits by a WIDE margin, personally. Oh boy am I excited for tomorrow morning (our time).

  8. Same here. I grew up with Seattle in the AFC West and had a long standing dislike of Denver that I inherited from my dad (who always referred to John Elway as "Horse face") so to see them completely blowing up their future for at least the next couple of years is just so satisfying. But hey at least Denver has a franchise QB who the team and the city have all rallied behind....

  9. The Bill and Frank episode was the best. I wept buckets. What a tremendous deviation from game canon. This show keeps finding new ways to crush my soul and it is totally great.

  10. I don't get why people think they are having Roman Reigns wrestle on two nights back to back. They didn't keep the title on Roman Reigns three years to do that. Cody wants the whole shebang. He's not settling for a split title.

  11. I know that nowadays it feels like he's been on TV since he wrestled Dr. Jerry Graham on the Dumont Network, but that was Dolph's time and I stand by it! His team with Big E and AJ is probably one of the last handful of WWE-related things I have fond memories of (along with the Danielson/WMXXX win, that period of excellent Wyatt/Shield/Evolution bouts, and the Festival of Friendship). And as an aside: I haven't seen this Twitter Faux-Sid (I've deleted all social media besides reddit, which I pretty much just treat as a modernized Fark), but there is zero chance it's as cringeworthy as 'Fake Buff Bagwell: Outspoken LGBT Advocate.' Like, sir, you're a 60 year old man from Georgia; I try not to judge a book by its cover, but we know the score here.

  12. That was RUSH saying, "You're not a man." When he finally mixes it up with Rush he gets to feeling like, "HEY WAIT! Did he DISRESPECT ME?" because Pillman is a dope.
    3 points
  13. I don't want to pile on Pillman but I've rarely ever seen someone who was a "name" swallowed up like he was at the start of the RUSH match. Rush smacks him. Pillman fires up. Instead of firing back with a shot of his own, Pillman locks up. It's an ok lock-up, but... Pillman maneuvers him into the corner, a set up for his dad's style of chop. Great, ok. RUSH dodges the chop, controls from there. Yikes Some of that is RUSH, because of course it is, but this felt worse than a lot of things you see, because that opening bit where the heel gets some comeuppance during the shine after an early affront is just the common language of wrestling. As a viewer, you're taking a walk up a set of stairs and a stair is just missing and you stumble. Watching Pillman, Jr. is bad because not only is Brian falling on his face, but he makes you fall on your face as a viewer too.

  14. Man, Red Velvet made Billy Starkz look like a killer. Starkz Tiger Driver was sweet. Red Velvet took her Released German like a KING! I loved her Swanton. Starkz leaned into Red Velvet's kinda crappy finisher and made it look good. One call up to the Black Pool Combat Club or TEAM DMD and the DESTROY SWITCH is ready to be flipped for Space Jesus. ATHENA is fucking awesome even in backstage vignettes. Best supporting performance is gal whose stock is rising since EVERYBODY is laying it in and she has been doing it since day one, Diamante! Anthony Henry makes Alex Reynolds look better than the TJ MAXX Trent Barretta he can come off as sometimes. The Workhorseman looked way better than the Dark Order for the most part until you hit the homestretch and you remember why you love John Silver. The reason RUSH! is so motherfucking great is because he CONTINUOUSLY challenges your manhood. He's not subtle about it like Jon Moxley is. To RUSH, YOU are a milsop, and RUSH can destroy you. That being established, Brian Pillman acquitted him self well when RUSH was beating the dogshit out of him and he was actually firing back. Quality CHEATING by LLI. Way better that it had any right to be. Goddam, ATHENA RULES! Diamante and ATHENA should get ALLLL the tag belts. They were fucking AWESOME beating on Skye Blue so much that the crowd was afraid she wouldn't be pretty no more. Diamante was Doug Summers to ATHENA's Playboy Buddy Rose. I'm not sure Yuka can gather the assbeat to make the match versus ATHENA next in a string of breathtaking matches, but ATHENA can do other kinds of wrestling so it should allright. Oooon the other hand, there's a golden baaaand, Skye Blue vs ATHENA for the belt would truly rule. Smart Mark Sterling tricks everyone in Kentucky into admitting that they stink! I dunno. I like a good bar of soap and would prolly look under my chair! Okay! Here's what they need to do! Get Swerve Strickland back in the tag scene OR have Shane Taylor and that other dude feud with Top Flight for a chance at the titles. They got to start putting some more real matches under their belts. It can all point Top Flight versus the Acclaimed. Tony Neese and Air Daivari are both so SLICK! Darius/Neese was especially good in the ring. Darius Martin is the most spectacular wrestler in wrestling? The best thing about the House of Black was, of course, DADDY MAGIC! In my mind, I imagine Daddy Magic and Matt D screeching in stereo! Oh man! Claudio vs Blake Christian is a hoot. I love how Claudio dominated like a MidSouth heel until Blake got in his giant comeback. Claudio is so awesome he took the goofiest move in wrestling- the Giant Swing- and turned it into a devastating SUBMISSION! I sure Chris Jericho thought of that. That show fucking ruled.

  15. I feel like Craig Mazin deserves an honorary Emmy just for whatever he said to convince Druckman to let him change everything about Bill & Frank. Just a lovely episode. Definitely more STATION ELEVEN/LEFTOVERS than WALKING DEAD. I was 100% expecting Bill to stumble out of the bedroom at the end, but I’m glad he didn’t.

  16. Off to work so no time for a full write-up, but Workhorsemen and Magical Girl both on YouTube TWICE in one week feels like pure Gordlow Fan Service and I am VERY HAPPY about that. Also: Takeshita vs Angelico (w/Luther & Serpentico) was SUCH glorious bullshit and a PERFECT YouTube main event. I am off to work full of joy today.

  17. Been watching the start of WCW Saturday Night from around early 1992. The K Allen Frey era shits all over the Bill Watts one from a great height, and yet such a discrepancy in praise.

  19. Was it anger though? I've always read that they were flat-out STUNNED, not mad per se. I think Bruno thought he'd broken his eardrum because he wasn't hearing anything after the finish. So more akin to Brock breaking The Streak in New Orleans.

  20. The wholesomeness of tiny Wednesday and her awesome footwork taking the lead and teaching humungous Lurch to dance always brings out the smiles. It was awesome when Jenna broke this out on the Netflix joint. Showed that she did her research. RIP OG Wednesday.

  23. I mean Josh Allen is skipping it to play golf, if that shows how important it is to players. They really should just name the team which will keep the bonuses/HOF credentials in fact but not actually have them physically do anything. Or just get rid of it and stick with the All-Pro accolades.

  24. Tito Santana's stepover toehold looks great. He might have be best one of those I've seen. I'm adding it to the list of modern-day moves people should steal and use as finishes, along with the slingshot suplex and a really tight-looking kneelift (which is the one thing about Mr. Wrestling II that I dig). EDIT: Tito and King Kong Bundy had a DOPE TV match on 6/18/83 Mid-South. It's worth going out of your way to watch.

  28. I guess we define "flourishing" differently. They've dropped every important match they've been in. Other than Rhea. Hard Time Dom is hilarious, no doubt there, and their presentation is definitely slicker, but the second they ate that pin from Sami & Jey they went back to being "just there" guys. That really made them look like chumps after several weeks of momentum. They can't beat a makeshift tag team? And I'm not super optimistic about their prospects as they go back into feuding with Edge again. They aren't on tv any more often than they were, because everyone is on tv every week in wwe. I just don't see it. You're actually probably right in the technical sense. Ricochet is certainly better off. Piper Niven is better off just not having to be Doudrop anymore. Same for Mia Yim and Nikki Cross with their idiotic former gimmicks. Hit Row is, even though they shouldn't be. Same for Karrion Kross. Whatever that dude had in nxt or the indies, he's just not cutting it here. Someone made a very apt comparison to a baseball manager who just sees something in a guy that isn't there. I'm reminded of Bobby Cox giving guys like Brooks Conrad and Gregg Colbrunn big time at bats in clutch situations. I actually think he might be worse at evaluating who his top guys are than Vince was. I think Vince was usually right in who he picked, he was just horrid at getting them where he wanted them. Until the 2010's, anyway. Maybe HHH just needs to get used to all this. I just have a hard time watching this product (outside the Bloodline stuff) and seeing it as any better than it was under Vince.

  31. I mean I can see one having different feelings as to how well HHH is doing in charge but Judgement Day went from months of struggling to finding a groove and flourishing within about 6 weeks of the change in leadership. Even if you hate the guy ignoring that is just silly, more than just 3 to 5 people are much better off.

  32. I think a returning Wardlow with a fresh cut will help Darby retain his title. Darby having a "candle that burns twice as bright" title run is a good story, but there's a bunch of guys who would benefit more from the heat of picking his bones than Joe. Swerve would be at the top of my list.

  39. Sunday, February 12, 6:30 PM Philadelphia (-2½) @ Kansas City In honor of the participants, this year's SUPERB owl is the European Eagle Owl! We have chosen this fine animal because, the Eagles are in the game, and Europeans looted and slaughtered any Chiefs that once lived in what is now Kansas City. Enjoy the show folks!

  43. Judgment Day is a +1 on the HHH ledger, right? Over the past six months they’ve gone from spooky…something to grade A shitbags that have seen Rhea elevated, Dom elevated, and Balor showing personality for the first time in WWE.

  44. Mark Briscoe is something to see. it is like an eulogy combined with a shoot interview. Total Briscoe and doing it so professionally as well Wow so according to the service, "reach for the sky Boy" in his entrance was actually based on a Toy Story reference and that Jay was a "a big softy" that always cried watching it

  45. An even more obvious problem with this theory: why would you lie about and defame the WBD execs who hold the fate of your company in their hand? That would seem to be a monumentally stupid idea on multiple levels.

  47. Here's my anecdotal story about the death of WCW/ppv numbers. The audience at the time was much younger than it is today and ppvs were really expensive. My friend group was divided into three categories, (1.) the few diehards, (2.) the ones who got into it due to the wrestling boom, and (3.) the people who just enjoyed having a get together on a Sunday night. We would pool our money together to buy ppvs. The diehards wanted to watch everything. WCW put on a bunch of ppv stinkers and gave away just about everything on free tv (remember that Goldberg as hot as he was was really a tv attraction, not a ppv attraction) The tide had shifted and the boomers moved from WCW to WWF when Austin/Rock got molten hot. Over a relatively short period of time only the diehards wanted to shell out money to watch WCW ppvs. I was stuck watching screenshots of WCW ppvs in real time on web sites like lordsofpain.net. This was not going to be reflected in the ratings because the fun of the monday night wars was switching back and forth. More eyeballs on wrestling meant higher ratings all around. By 99 I was in college and the boom was over. There were still WWE people floating around but there wasn't a single casual wrestling fan I knew who would be caught dead watching WCW. It was me alone in a dorm room watching nitros and listening to wcw live.
