  1. If I can get one thing out of AEW next year, I NEED it to be Orange Cassidy vs Bryan Danielson.

  4. In the ideal world, Punk will come back to tie up loose ends (certainly some potential there for hot matches if all parties can play nice) but he shouldn't ever sniff the title picture again. He's just too injury prone and untrustworthy, make him a special attraction for PPVs and the bigger Dynamites and let him focus on "blood feuds" rather than anything title related. I don't know if he will be able to smooth things over with The Elite and Jericho, or if he even wants to, but it would be nice to have a better conclusion than what we got with Punk in AEW at the moment.

  5. When I saw the first trailer, I was like, "Are we all that stupid that this movie needs Knives Out name recognition?" Then I browsed over to the YouTube recommended clips page and realized that indeed we are all that stupid.

  6. Orange Cassidy and Trent Barretta do an odd Handshaking Sequence! I love that Cassidy is channeling Ric Flair, the Traveling NWA Champion! Oh man, they are laying it in. Trent Barretta is so fucking great. SUWA DROPKICK BY CASSIDY ON THE FLOOR! So Cassidy is the best wrestler in AEW? Or maybe Trent? Well, Jamie Hayter is the best but these two dudes are pretty close. BEAUTIFUL Toprope Vertical Suplex by Trent! Man, this match is fucking great. GREAT High Angle Tequila Sunrise Suplex by Trent! DDT by Cassidy! Another DDT! FOR TWO! LE MARTINETE BY TRENT! So the Best Friends are the Blackpool Combat Club. GREAT FUCKING PILEDRIVER BY TRENT! This is fucking great. Penelope Ford shows up! BEACH BREAK FOR TWO! ORANGE PUNCH FOR THE WIN! I completely LOVED that Cassidy had second thoughts about using the Orange Punch but Trent hit THREE Piledrivers! SO FUCKING GREAT. Kip Sabian beats a dude. Preston Vance ON THE STICK! MOX on the STICK! SLEEP LIKE BABIES! Jeff Jarrett is AWESOME on the STICK! Kiera Hogan is callipygous. Jade Cargill will crush her, I assume. Cargill looks pretty great in this. One wonders if Hogan can summon the snugness she summoned versus ATHENA! ATHENA! ATHENA! Jade beats the hell out of her in picture in picture. Red Velvet kinda turns! Hogan has a little comeback! DIVING CROSSBODY! Then she gets JADED! That was the best Jade Cargill match I can remember. That was the second best Kiera Hogan match she has had this week. ATHENA! ATHENA! ATHENA! Shane Swerve Strickland and Wheeler Yuta are going to beat the fudge out of each other! So I need to see both of these dudes wrestle Angelico. This match is total Strange Style. AREZ! AREZ! AREZ! Yeah, Strickland and Angelico for ten minutes on Dark would completely rule. Yuta sells the knee like a king! He really sells it to the back row. NICE Brainbuster by Strickland. This match is good. I don't know if it's the best match to put in front of a completely fried crowd, but it's still good. NICE SUPERPLEX by Yuta! FUN NEARFALLS! Strickland CHEATS! And WINS! That was good. Trent/ Cassidy was fucking awesome. AEW RULES THE MOTHERFUCKING WORLD.

  7. I agree. They need to do a little bit more to make these Battle of the Belts feel big and special. Going live is a great first step, but you have to have some healthy feuds/matches that will get people to tune in. Maybe this is where you do a RoH vs. AEW champion vs champion card at some point? I don't really know, just spitballing... But just imagine the Acclaimed vs. Briscoes. Athena vs. Jamie Hayter. Claudio vs. MJF.

  8. OC and Trent are indeed two of the best all-around talents in the company and that was a damn fine match! Kip heeling it up was perfectly alright! The end stretch of Jade/Hogan was pretty good! I love how Mark Sterling never actually severed any ties with folks like Jade and MJF, that's the kinda heel behavior I adore. Dragon vs Buttmeat will RULE. I fucking hate how the whole gang member/prisoner tattoo trend has gone basically mainstream. That garbage never looks good and automatically makes me take somebody to be a joke. I love Yutes. Heel Swerve is best Swerve.

  9. I too like Kip. Sorry guys. I thought he was ok on commentary too as the sort of mustache twirling villain. We need a couple more of those in wrestling. I kind of wish Penelope would respond a little more to him as part of the act but it does go a bit against her Superbad thing and partnership with the Bunny. Wight did ok. One "snug" reference. No Zebras. I liked TRENT vs Cassidy a lot more than I was expecting, actually. I came in thinking it'd be like the ZSJ match, which was a fine match and would have been a fine workrate match, but they leaned the other way with it and leaned into the shtick. Always a possibility but I thought that would have been more of an OC vs Chuck match. Big fan of the counters based on knowing one another. Lots of entertaining bits. I got a kick out of the hug for instance and thought Danhausen kicking Cassidy was pretty hilarious. I just chuckled again thinking about that. I really do hope we get an OC vs Danhausen match at some point. One more notch for OC's 2022 though. Kip's Orange Punch looked pretty terrible but that was kind of the point and he'd already hit the double stomp. I will say it's good this thing is paying off next week and at least it's a match for BOTB that has some build. Vance saying that he can talk in a promo where he was kind of stumbling a bit was maybe not the best move. I'm looking forward to Vance vs Silver at some point though. The Jade vs Hogan match really opened up after Velvet stopped her. If they are sweeping Hogan under the rug because Sasha's coming in, at least she's getting some shine. she did against Athena as well. I agree that this could have used some promos and better build and probably could have been saved to BOTB since it's a legitimate issue (former lackey turning on her boss, etc). They're hotshotting the Velvet thing instead which is a little bit of a shame as I like Velvet much more as a heel. Maybe there's more to it. First, it's not a Megaman song, it's the Punch Out running music. Second, Mox referencing Killshot almost broke Swerve, but he's so good at kind of rolling into the exasperated laughter that fits his character. I really loved the way he hit that dropkick to the leg to set up the commercial break but I kind of wish he had more tricked out submissions to match his weirdo offense. Yuta took all of his stuff well (the triple backbreakers) and worked on one leg pretty well. The low blow at the end did more to further Swerve's character than protect Yuta. It's kind of fun to watch Bordeaux cheerlead on the outside. Fun Saturday morning wrestling. Wednesday's show is stacked.

  11. I like that idea, @TheVileOne. I’d take it a step further and have MJF institute a “countdown clock” that’s on screen every time he is that tells you how long until he’s required to defend his title again. You could have MJF tag with either Joe or Hobbs in those tag situations with the implication being that even he is afraid of crossing those guys…

  12. I actually like both guys, but that's the first match they've announced for this card, and it's second tier midcard title. Also, this is going to be a live special as well. They clearly aren't planning long-term for these as big quarterly events. They need to consider getting either a world title match on there OR at last booking MJF for one of these events. MJF doesn't even have to defend the title. Have him pick a tag team partner to face Danielson and Starks for example.

  13. It appears that Adonitology has made it's way all the way to the land of the rising sun thanks to our dear @Gordlow Nice shout out to DW at the beginning... BEST FRIENDS EXPLODE! Orange wins after Trent? gets distracted by Penelope..so more Kip? Yay? Last week Jade hit a sweet axe kick this week she damn near takes Keira's head off with a thrust kick NOW CAN YOU DIG THAT SUCKA! Hayter Hits Harder! Remember that! BCC v Sneaky Swerve and his illustrated men! Lucha Underground shoutout! Now this is why I had Yuta as one of my guys when we did that! And Swerve held his end up as well! Best Swerve match yet! Mixed bad of an episode good stuff to start and finish and some stuff in the middle

  14. Kip Sabian sucked so hard on commentary. Trent and Orange was a lot of fun otherwise. Main event was great but those are some terrible tattoos. Curt scared me for a second that they had replaced Yuta's rad Mega Man X intro stage music with Roundball Rock, but they just used it to promo some matches so that's good. Edit: Also Bug Dad and Skull Kid are the most wholesome thing in wrestling. Please don't ever break Sting and Darby up.

  15. Every time I think bray wyatt stuff can't get worse. That is some high level cringe, corny cartoon shit. LA Knight does seem to be trying his absolute best though. And now they will do battle.... in The Mountain Dew Pitch Black Match! Raquel looked legit excellent here, super star quality vibes. Post-match was bizarre and I'm a big Charlotte fan. Charlotte returning suddenly ultra babyface was very odd. I had previously thought they would end up doing Charlotte/Bianca at WM and just today there were reports around that Ronda/Becky plans had suddenly changed to Ronda/Rhea which definitely seemed random. Main event was underwhelming with Cena working about a minute of it. Slow... slow..... Tag! But I'm glad he kept the 'wrestle every year' streak for 20 years of Cenamania.

  17. Here's my takeaway from Orange vs Trent:There's a time for love, and a time for letting it be. Chuck looking like Dave Grohl. (There goes Chris Hero! He's ordinary!) Powerslap is the DUMBEST thing I have kinda wanted to watch since... Since The Go Big Show, actually! Nice story progression in the Callypigian Title Match! Hogan & Cake vs Jade & Baddy #2 oughta be fun. Athena > Jade, clearly... but Athena > a lot of people in the ring. I wonder if Bryan vs Neece will be a better match than Bryan vs Ethan (my BOLD PREDICTION: Abs-olutely!) B-b-b-b-b basketball! C'mon c'mon gimme the ball because I'm gonna DUNK IT! There was a lot of nifty and neat-o wrestling in THE MAIN EVENT! but I was totally distracted by trying to figure out if Boudreaux was wearing Zubaz or not. I totally wore Zubaz and a fanny pack in the 1980s! All the damn time. I thought Boudreaux was wearing snakeskin Zubaz and was kinda bummed out it was actually fancy distressed jeans. Zicky Dice, baby! Cool show to end the year on! Sufficiently weird and indie to make ole Gordlow very happy! EDIT: the memorial graphic to start off was nice to see, as well. I heard Cole also said something on SmackDown. RIP

  18. Main event was a fun house show match, but damn Cena just blatantly shouting out the cues for the hot tag was awful.

  19. It is weird because last time he came back his hair looked a bad toupee. Almost Beatles like it was awkward To be fair Cena could have hidden his bald spot but apparently Charlotte had to steal all the hair in the back. Jesus somewhere a hair extension company is swimming in a pool of money

  24. Fun opening match between two of the top 10-15 wrestlers in AEW. Mix of comedy bits, storytelling, and moves. The second 15 minute block was booked very well to avoid people like me changing the channel when threatened with a Kip Sabian match. They cut to a fantastic backstage segment with Darby and Sting, come back to a 2 minute squash, and end with Moxley in-ring promo. Mox is trying to turn heel, we’ll see if the fans let him. The third segment was the Jade-Hogan match and A LOT of commercials. Got interesting after Red’s sort-of turn. Hogan accidentally(?) kicked Jade really hard square in the face. It was an ok match with a foregone conclusion. Jade-Red vs. Hogan-Skye I guess has some potential as “will Red Velvet cost Jade her streak?” Main was fun, enjoyed seeing Yuta lean away some from his recent BCC style and have to work with Swerve’s strange style. I really do enjoy all the ways that Swerve can use his legs and feet to do weird trips, reversals, and kicks. A little disappointed the show didn’t end with someone like Hobbs doing a run-in and destroying the set.

  25. 7/7/90: Spivey vs Taue: Another step forward for Taue. He legitimately controlled for a bit and you even thought he might win at one point towards the end after he hit a Samoan Drop, Russian Leg Sweep, elbow drop, etc. He just didn't have enough to put Spivey away though and Spivey hit the Spike DDT out of nowhere for the win. Remember, Spivey was treated as a quasi-Brody replacement in 89 and was Hansen's partner before Tenryu. With Williams and Gordy in, he was bumped down a bit, but he was still pretty credible with the fans and pretty protected, so Taue doing so well was something at least. (oh! Taue hit a pretty good chairshot on the outside too. More aggression). 7/7/90: Hansen vs Kobashi. Last time we really saw Kobashi lock horns with Hansen, he was in crazy beast mode in some random tags. That was a few months earlier back when Tenryu was still around and before Hansen was champ and when such things could occur. This match really restored things more to the natural order. That didn't mean that Kobashi didn't take it to him at times or that he didn't doggedly keep grabbing for an arm after getting shrugged off of a pin or that he didn't even, eventually, knock down Hansen with a spin kick and hit the frog splash (Borrowed from Misawa) for a credible 2, but this was him getting swatted down and getting back up. Until he ate the lariat and didn't get up any more. It was ok but it felt like a reset and something to build upon in the future. For some reason the change in perspective made me wonder if it wouldn't have made more sense to have Doc beat Hansen back in May/June during their singles match and then build to a big card where Jumbo got his win back on Gordy and (vulnerable) champ Hansen overcame Doc and got his win back too. Ah well. I'm sure they did fine without my time-displaced help. 7/12/90: Hansen/Spivey/Deaton vs Williams/Gordy/Ace: This was thirteen minutes of pure chaos. There was about thrity seconds to a minute of Gordy catching Ace on the way in with a drop toehold and locking in a hold, but everything else was hossfight chaos. It's not even worth writing up in any meaningful way. Let me put it this way. This is JIP and it comes in on Spivey powerbombing someone. That's the start of the footage and it goes 13 after that. My favorite part was when Deaton hit a big lariat and had a moment and got a chant! Good for Deaton. Hansen was all over the place as you can imagine, just fighting everyone. Ace really was only a factor when he ran across the ring a couple of times to break up a Hansen hold (it took that much momentum) and keeping both Hansen and Spivey busy on the outside for the finish which was a heroic effort. Finish was awesome as it was the assisted Stampede on Deaton with Gordy pressing Williams back the whole way. Look, there's more fun stuff in here but you try to keep track of it all.

  27. Thought it was time for an update. Long read. After telling my Dad and Sister about having suicidal thoughts for the first time, that was a huge moment as I'd kept it from them for ages because I didn't want to cause worry/upset. Takes a lot to open up to someone as I've had good and bad experiences doing so. I knew Dad/Laura would be there for me as my much missed Mum would. My Dad/Laura thought I could do with speaking to a doctor that week preferably my assigned one, Dr. Jundi. Thing is she's hard to get appointments for and I wasn't able. I spoke to Dr. Markey who thought I needed switching antidepressants so Dr. Jundi did in September. Full disclosure, I'm not the best with medications going from thinking they're not working to wanting something different. Depression is an illness of highs and lows. I was taken off Trazodone to Fluoextine. I tried preserving with it even though I was getting muscle twitches and singles down my limbs. I had a really bad three days and by chance I spoke to Dr. Gupta my long term pain specialist who thought it was Serotonin Syndrome. Serotonin Syndrome sucks. Got an emergency doctors appointment to be put back on Trazodone in December. I will say I miss the buzz of the first few weeks back on it and March of this year. That buzz hasn't come back but I seem to be better on Trazodone than others. One was great, Venlafaxine but had to stop taking it as it messed with my heart. Dr Jundi wanted me to try My Wellbeing College again but I was reluctant to having the bad experience with Ben. I started my therapy with Rebecca on the 1st of November, 6 sessions. I liked Rebecca, thought I was making progress...and then came my fourth session with her on the 20th of December going in a direction I didn't expect. Rebecca felt she wasn't helping me and I can't move to the next step, step 3 with someone else despite me doing all but one of the things she's given me to do outside our sessions. The one thing I forgot cost me. I said to Rebecca that it feels like my openness, honesty and progress was getting put to one side over reliance of a questionnaire score, hate those damn things. Didn't take Batman, the World's Greatest Detective to figure out how upset I was. What's disappointed me with Rebecca more than Ben and other healthcare professionals is that I clicked with her as noted felt my progress was looked over by that stupid scoring system. It's the "I'm not mad, I'm just disappointed" from your family kind of feeling. As noted earlier, when you have a bad experience confusing such secrets, it puts you off and you can't row back on it. It's the most I've been upset talking to a healthcare professional on the phone in five years, even when upset I was still polite. Rebecca must have been concerned how our conversation ended as First Response rang me twice afterwards while I was asleep with one saying it had come from My Wellbeing. Always put off ringing First Response for years but did the next day to tell them I'm okay. Least I could do. Call from Jacqui O'Riordan went good, she sides with me over Rebecca. I'd have really gone to town with the self-harm because I was so distressed but didn't mainly because I wanted to and I very rarely say this, stick it to someone. Rebecca rang me back the next day saying I can go to the next step but there's a wait. I never forget when someone has hurt me, I find it hard to forget. I've written a letter to Dr. Jundi this week letting her know before my appointment this Thursday. I need to get back to the healthy eating and exercise again. Done little of both due to depression and physically I'm in consistent pain. Weight gain through the medication and poor food choices as well. I was stunned when my neurologist told me having Cerebral Palsy, my body has to work four times harder doing the same thing as someone who doesn't. Right taken aback when I heard that. I'm so stiff. The spasms. Mental health issues, depression and grief, your thoughts and feelings in mind. Please keep this to the board only and not on Facebook. Only the board, my Dad, Sister, Adam and Alyson know the true extent about the self-harm/suicidal thoughts. I trust you too. Thank you, Paul xxx.

  28. Nice to see Kiera get some offense in tonight so that it wasn't a total squash. Would have been nice to get some televised promos or even a video package to enhance the story here so that it didn't feel so much like another random Jade title defense as opposed to former allies doing battle. Not sure what's up with Red Velvet either but breaking up the Baddies seems a little premature. Unless the idea is maybe to break them off from Jade?

  29. Charlotte returning and immediately winning the women's championship was probably the most non-Vince Vince decision yet. I have to think there are more interesting ways to utilize her than plopping her right back into the same role that exhausted so many on her in the first place. Other than that, Ronda/Raquel was fine. Nice to see them get some time.

  35. That was a fun two hours of professional wrestling. I'm loving the Bloodline/ Sami/ Owens story and it's about time Charlotte Flair came back to squash Rousey. Charlotte Flair is a Pro Wrestling Star and Rousey's return's been a flop. The best thing about her character is Shayna as her lackey. Because Shayna can talk and has pro wrestling charisma.

  37. Okay I thought of two things that were really great on this one. 1. The Michinoku Driver from... I wanna say Trent? That was just evil as all fucking Hell. 2. Lay Jethal (I accidentally writed Lay so now that's his name forever) losing his mind just to induce laughter. "I'M SIGGUVIT!" Also, finding out that Mox is a shoot Strickland mark and Yuta's music was the old NBA on NBC theme written by John Tesh from our friends that partake in the Discord was cool.

  41. OK, I see I have a couple of matches to catch up with. Let's give them a look: Kevin Sullivan and Buzz Sawyer vs. Robbie Idol and Ian Panzer As something of a connoisseur of Kevin Sullivan squashes, I have seen this match before and enjoyed it immensely. The perk of this match, barring the post-match interview shenanigans, is Sawyer looking like he's/actually shoot being high on bath salts during the whole thing. The Sullivan's Slaughterhouse deal, which is my first memory of Mick Foley in wrestling, turned out quite a few enjoyable squashes! The match itself is a fine squash specifically because of Sawyer, yeah, whose nutty laughing is a bit much, but who also is basically mean, even meaner than Sully is. I watched a bunch of Matt Borne-as-Doink squashes last night that had that quality of meanness that makes for a good heel squash, so I was primed to watch Buzz Sawyer bite and claw dudes. I also greatly enjoyed the SWEET top-rope splash Mad Dog hit, though the second one wasn't quite as good as the first. But whatever, Buzz bites the SHIT out of Robbie Idol and no one can get him off, and even more than the job squad not being able to pry him off is Sullivan being like FUCK, I GOTTA GO GET THE CHAIN and stomping off to do it before returning and choking Sawyer out with it Post-match, we get an interview with a long bleep that covers up Sullivan basically saying that Buzz's mom popped a squat in the desert and shit her son from the womb. How the fuck did this get on TV at all? It rules. I love Cactus standing there looking like a relatively balanced dude next to these two nutjobs. Southern wrestling is the best. Katsuyori Shibata and KENTA vs. Takeshi Morishima and Muhammad Yone I know three of these guys, not well, but decently enough. I really enjoyed Morishima's ROH stuff back in the day and am sorry to hear of his recent substance abuse/health issues. SAMMO~! notes that KENTA is perfect as a total prick, and he is! He was totally miscast as a stoic babyface in NXT in the mid-New Tens because his face screams "total dickwad." While this match was a bit long for me and probably could have been edited down a bit, it was solid because the personalities came through. Some of the tropes, I'm not a fan of, like the opening "let's forearm/punch each other in the face a lot" spot that seems du jour for like every match from a major Japanese wrestling company that I see in this time period. KENTA's great, though, with the little boot wipes and disrespectful kicks and slaps. The match was better when it picked up and worse when they worked holds in the center of the ring that just felt like passing time. Also, Shibata is a plus-striker (and that's an understatement), so I felt like the match was way more interesting when everyone kept it standing. But I can't hate the overarching framework of this match, in which Shibata would walk around like a boss kicking people in the liver or head or whatever, and then KENTA would tag in and do boot wipes and nut shots and other dirty and disrespectful offense. The thread of this match, which is that you the viewer are desperately hoping the whole time that KENTA gets in over his head without Shibata being there to save him, comes right through. It worked for me on a macro level and was generally okay on a micro level despite my previous complaints. Let's give love to the really good micro level stuff, actually: KENTA doing increasingly ludicrous offense that is designed to make him look like a cocky asshole, mixing it up and hitting as many different spots in that vein as he could. I am a sucker for "heel runs the ropes like five times just to slap someone" as a spot and feel that it isn't used enough. Shibata kicking dudes. The faces getting bursts of nasty offense, hitting it, and KENTA laying there like he's just waiting for the coroner to pronounce him dead. The finishing run being pretty hot. The run is that KENTA keeps barely getting saved from a three count after successive moves by Shibata breaking up the pinfall, and eventually Morishima hits a sequence of nasty suplexes while Yone holds onto Shibata for dear life on the outside as the faces finally score a pinfall. That was really good because I think I bit on two of the near-falls before the actual fall came. REALLY well-constructed and nicely executed. That was good pro wrestling right there, I'll tell you.

  42. Any unfinished business should remain unfinished. That stuff went on long enough to diminish both acts, no reason to throw HoB back onto that treadmill when they just came back into the fold. Surely Tony's smart enough to see the guffaws of "this again, really?" coming from around that corner. Time for new business.

Don was completely inhuman... getting pulled in 19 directions at once, selling everything in sight and still taking the time to get selfies with folks that wanted one. In a lot of ways it was one of greatest performances I've ever seen in wrestling. RIP Don... you were absolutely gem mint ten.

  45. Punk got two injuries in short succession, one in a freak outside-the-ring setting. Him catching so much shit for his wear-and-tear when people like Omega and Christian are hanging around strikes me as the usual crowd just looking for any reason to show him the door. Even younger guys like Adam Cole can suffer two injuries in quick succession. It's a weird physical business, you've got to be careful how much you hold that against people or label them. Maybe AEW knows more about Punk's health than us that might give them a scare, but based on publicly available information at most he ought be told firmly that his days of jumping the rail like that are over. But there's not enough there to justify being ready to move on. Re: Battle of the Belts, this is what it is, it's likely not changing, and I can't see any purpose to adding a taping for such a sparsely-viewed show. Just be happy you potentially get one or two more matches worth seeing that week. Re: Jericho not wanting to work with Punk, I never got the sense Punk was in a rush to work with him either. Or that anybody was clamouring for it. That should be an easy enough situation to resolve.
