  1. Worth mentioning a 2022 trend. HR issues stemming with communicating with Khan now that the roster has grown and they're not all on top of each other like they were during the pandemic (see: people like Swole, Janela). Khan promotes Buck, Schiavone, Daniels, Dutt, QT, hires Rayne as a coach. Locker Room a disaster after All Out Khan extends Jericho and Moxley and gives both more of an on-paper mentoring role Live gates down, touring hitting the same cities over and over again Khan brings in Jarrett He's definitely behind on these issues and not acting until things blow up/become an issue. He's still reacting to them when they do happen and trying to solve things with personnel. He's pulling in wrestling people instead of business people, which is interesting and has pros and cons.

  2. Dude - every venue he went to for the next 30 years, he saw Bigelow in the crowd. Always yelling at him "Shut up fat boy". There's some beef there.

  5. Ligerbusa was (is?) a poster here. The story, as I remember it, went: - Ligerbusa made a very nice Jurassic Park style Funkasaurus logo, with silhouettes of Brodus and the Funkadactyls - Ligerbusa sent that logo to Brodus somehow, maybe just by tweeting it and tagging Brodus - Brodus unexpectedly showed up with this logo on his gear. Ligerbusa was delighted - Brodus got in trouble for trademark issues. I think the deal was just that he didn't clear the logo with the appropriate people in WWE before putting it on his gear. I tried Googling to confirm any of this and can't, other than that Brodus wore this gear at Royal Rumble 2012, but that's how I remember it going. Apologies to Ligerbusa (and/or Brodus, I guess) if he's reading this and I got something wrong.

  6. Man, I need to watch this back to see how the crowd sounded. Building is small with the one upper side largely empty. But man when they reacted it at least live sounded pretty fucking great. Oh, and since food is part of the road report It solely consisted of hot dogs and a handshake with a friend for good measure. Oh, and some flavored Steel Reserve which while not nearly as horrible as the OG is still...fine...I think. Other than that the drive to and from was uneventful. As for the show there were some fun matches taped for Elevation but they honestly were background noise as I was chatting it up with friends. I did have to laugh at myself as while I was waiting for beer I hear Kingston's music, go "Ah, fuck" and run back to my seat. I just can't miss Eddie as I love him so fucking much. Then after that I went for beer and watched the first match for Dynamite. Darby was aces and Jay was good. But as soon as I pay Jeff Jarrett is revealed and I just wonder "Why, why must you do this to me?!" I don't hate Jarrett or anything but if there was ever a time to miss a match and a post-match it was a Lethal match with Jarrett running in. No thank you. Luckily as soon as I got to my seat the show that I actually cared about got rolling. It was lots of fun and I had a hearty laugh out of Colt facing Jericho (SUCK IT, PUNK! YEAH!) The Acclaimed segment was the most Attitude-era segment I recall seeing live and I loved every bit of it. It's so preposterous yet I loved the shit out of it all. Overall it was rather enjoyable though I now wish Rampage was taped tonight so I could see Shibata/Orange. Oh, well. I almost forgot that I absolutely loved how The Firm killed time before two more Dark matches to end the night. They're out there and Matt gives Stokely a TOF. Good ol' Stoke played dead in the most glorious way and it was hilarious seeing Morrissey carry the poor sap up the ramp. The guy really is a treasure. Oh, and Stalander was out there after the Best Friends Dark match celebrating. She seems in really good spirits and it's good to see her walking almost normal though who knows when she'll be fully healed.

  8. I caught everything but the main this morning, having seen at least part of the first hour last night. I was higher on the show on the second watch than I was on the first. Things felt a little dire last night (99 WCW, etc.) but in the light of the sun (there's no sun until next week when the clocks change), it did feel like another good show in-ring. Lethal and Darby pair up well. I liked the early aggression from Darby and Lethal had a bunch of tricked out offense that he doesn't usually use to utilize. The angle at the end was a little weird all things considered. There was probably little harm in keeping Cole Karter with the Factory and re-debuting Lee Johnson here? I don't know. Jarrett moment was definitely striking and it was great to hear the theme, but the promo only hit at like 60%. He only had one chance for that one and he really needed to nail it. I'm so much more excited at the idea of Lethal/Singh vs Darby/Sting than putting Jarrett in that mix, but if he actually has a clear purpose, the stable could sort of work. I'm not sure why we need both him and Dutt. Plus some of the stuff of Lethal having doubts about needing their help doesn't feel paid off. If he decided he was wrong and had to bring in Jarrett, fine, be clearer about that. It was a little heartbreaking when the fans started going up big, really big, amazingly big, for Moxley's comeback against Moriarty, just perfectly timed after the stomps, and it turned out to be because some football guy had shown up in the crowd. I feel kind of terrible for Moriarty just thinking about it. He did everything right in that one and has come a long way from even last year. Page was great on commentary. I've heard him in that role a number of times in AEW and he was the most focused here but then he had the most to be focused on. Getting frustrated when Moriarty left the shoulder was good. I liked Mox winning with a different submission. Mox is so Hansen-esque in how he steamrolls guys that anytime someone takes a lot from him in a match it feels meaningful. The Acclaimed segment was good but I don't love the cross feuding with the tag teams so close to the PPV. Especially given what Swerve just did. I like that they used this to release merch but it should have dropped a couple of weeks ago. Great to see how over all of this was. Some uncomfortableness on the mic at times but no one cared. Jericho vs Colt was ok. I'm not convinced that botch was a botch since they went right to commercial even if it was ugly. Colt, at least in 2021-2022, isn't as good as capturing the moment as you'd hope. He does the Dusty elbow, but he's not Dusty. Dusty would find a way to channel the crowd into him and then himself back into the crowd. I've seen Colt at various points in his career better at tapping into that, though maybe with smaller crowds. He had a lot of moments in this match but I'm not sure he was able to frame them or time them exactly right. At least he got to show more here than vs Danielson, which, as much as I kind of hate to say it, has me thinking more about Jericho's adaptability vs Danielson's. That's something I think Jericho might be better at, at highlighting his opponent's strengths and what makes them special. It's the sort of thing he probably thinks about more whereas Danielson is more focused on just having the best match every time out. Backstage segment with Rick Ross was very good. "ACCSUSATIONS!" popped me. Three-way was actually pretty good as those go. I think Cassidy might just be good at laying them out? Or maybe having Luchasaurus there as a monster to contrast worked? Women's segment was kind of a disaster conceptually even if Nyla played her part well.

  9. I'm kind of locked into thinking about "In-N-Out" AEW vs "Burger King" AEW. As I brought up in the Navel Gazing thread. In-N-Out AEW is a business, but content to be a smaller business, focused on maximum quality, serving a passionately loyal hardcore big niche. Not afraid to let their freak flag fly. Burger King AEW is a "challenger brand" seeking a much broader appeal, often by being a pale imitation of the leading brand or pandering to a more LCD demographic by leaning really hard into catchphrases, nostalgia pops, and so on. Orange Cassidy crashing and burning into Satnam on the tope was, in my opinion, maximum In-N-Out AEW. Bringing in Jeff Jarrett, in any capacity, however... He's the third most Burger King guy they could have possibly brought in (after Russo and Eric). It bodes ill for fans like me, who love the early and slightly weirder, warmer, and more innovative iteration of All Elite. Does it bode well for AEW as a challenge brand? Time, I suppose, will tell. i hope, very sincerely, for maximum success. My big worry is that this is the first big step in AEW moving away from something that fans like me can't miss, into something we can take or leave. Mox in AEW has been very In-N-Out, despite him being a former WWE superstar. Renee and Saraya felt pretty Burger King, though. Ethan Page seems, too, more like a pale imitation of something from the leading brand than someone letting their freak flag fly, so far at least. I am gonna quote HarryArchieGus here: "The Birthday Bash had a tired and awkward Mack-Mann feel to it. I was watching Bowens and Caster shill their shit wondering how long before the crowd turns them heel again." Yep. The Acclaimed getting over organically was pure In-N-Out. They are in danger of pushing it into a pretty Burger King place now, however. Cabana vs Jericho was a good example of what I love about AEW. Particularly the welcome back chants. PCO would have been more fun, but not by much. Too bad about that horrible botch. There were a couple of great bumps in the 3-way. Generally, the actual wrestling is going to be the saving grace for fans like me. They could possibly screw that up, though. I personally liked it more when it was almost all clean finishes, like the ghost of Giant Baba was helping with the booking. Nyla is genuinely funny on Twitter. A treasure. Hopefully she'll get there on the mic sooner or later. That Strickland/Billy angle on Halloween was pure Burger King. Not sure where I stand on Rick Ross. Celebrity angles seem pretty damned BK, but he was pretty good in this one. The House of Black presentation has always been more than a little BK, but Brody King, Buddy Matthews, and Julia Hart are all good in the ring. So it more or less balances out. Joe vs Cage was the good stuff. Shibata showing up (and not going overboard with explaining who he is) was the *least* Burger King thing they could possibly have done! Redeemed the show, for me personally. I guess I am OK if this is where things are headed. AEW is no longer the big indie family and friends promotion they started out as. Complaining about it overmuch would do as much good as complaining that my daughters refuse to stay cute little girls forever. They are 11 and 7 now, and they grow smarter, stronger, more independent every day. It's different in that I still love them with every bit of my heart and always will no matter what. Obviously. Is AEW growing beyond the company I loved also inevitable? Maybe? So maybe I am not going to be quite so passionate about Burger King AEW... But I don't resent them going for success in this way. As long as we are still getting insane Darby bumps, Big Meaty Men Slapping Meat, Jamie Hayter, Hikaru Shida, Shibata coming down that aisle, Takeshita coming back, Bryan fighting, Kingston talking from the heart, etc etc etc, I doubt even Double J will be able to turn me completely against this company.

  11. I'd personally go with FTR just barely squeaking out a win in a classic match, showing Acclaimed a ton of respect (putting them way over in the loss), then Acclaimed winning the belts back later when FTR are done with the belt collector thing.

  12. In terms of a multi-milion dollar business owner, he's slow to move. In terms of a wrestling promoter, he's damn near lightning fast.

  13. I think you should have Acclaimed go over FTR in a classic to cement them as top guys at a major Dynamite. Give them a 20-30 min main event and have handshakes at the end. I don't think the Acclaimed are made yet- super hot at the moment, but not made yet.

  14. This is my spicy take, I enjoyed WCW Jarrett, as a worker, he was perfectly good, occasionally great in his prime, and given his style I suspect he can still go enough. As long as he isn't booking himself I'm fine with him being on the show. As for Colt, I've seen him a couple times live. Definitely a guy who I think translates better to indie crowds, but usually a good worker and seems like a good guy. I liked his clueless schmuck in Brodie's Dark Order gimmick.

  18. I'm a little befuddled by the strong reaction to Jarrett. Don't get me wrong top of the card Jarrett is the worst. But he hasn't been in or around any world titles in 15 years. When he's in the middle of the card 9 times out of 10 he has a fun quaint character. MMA Jarrett feuding with Kurt in TNA was money. Jarrett has also had a little reinvention with the GCW Last Outlaw character. But make no mistake about it, he's on screen for a one and done story for a single PPV. He's not gonna be a full time active wrestler. No more than 3 or 4 times a year will he wrestle. He's at most gonna have the Sting on screen presentation. But primarily he's there to be an office worker. And as such, I think it's a great move. He worked for WWE in a Live Event capacity for about a year and a half total. He worked in a Live Event capacity for TNA for 15 years. He's not there to book. He's there to help grow, brand, and execute as an office worker helping chart the Live Events. And maybe he also kicks in as a coach or agent. And again, he's a great choice for that. He has 15+ years relating to the new generation of X-Division style workers in TNA. He's old school but at the same time not anti new school. He's a great pick up. People really gotta get over the TNA narratives. TNA died a long time ago.

  19. They have three sets of belts. They can defend them forever. There's no practical need for FTR to go anywhere near Acclaimed unless it's a draw finish like Backlund vs Race or whatever. A team with three sets of belts should be spending all of their time defending them.

  20. I think that adding someone like Jarrett is going to be a home run for the company overall. I know, call me crazy - but Jarrett does have a good mind for the business as he has been in it or around it since childhood. I'd dare argue HE has more experience as a promoter than Tony Khan does. Maybe this is what Tony and AEW need is just a few more people to funnel in ideas and such. Even with such a large roster, I have to imagine it's hard for one single man to try and do everything. At least back in the day Vince had Pat and Bruce to facilitate ideas to - whereas here - I don't know if Tony has anybody that he's willing to work that closely with. We don't really know in concrete how the creative necessarily works in the back (is it TK only booking these shows and angles? Is it a collab with the talent? Do the coaches like Jerry Lynn, Billy Gunn, etc. offer any kind of input) so I think this may actually help the company. I also don't expect to see Jeff Jarrett holding the AEW World title hostage like he did the NWA World title in TNA, so that also lets it slide for me. They really missed a prime opportunity to bring out Chuck Palumbo and it makes me sad. If you ever do turn Daddy Ass on the Acclaimed, bring back Chucky P one time only so him and Billy can challenge for the titles as a blow off of sorts. Fuck it, let's get really weird. Also, we should be talking more about Jamie Hayter and Toni Storm. I wish they would've given these two ladies a chance to be the main focus of the feud, because I have no doubt that a BANGER!!!! is incoming at Full Gear. I almost say screw it and let Jamie be the one to beat Toni, but I wonder if it's too early in her reign to lose. Hasn't even had a PPV title defense yet.

  24. I like Lamar Jackson a lot. Never heard anything bad about him while he was here in Louisville, and I'm really happy to see him have success as an NFL QB when no one thought he would. That said, Dammit Lamar, show up on time! I really doubt he thought his entrance would be that distracting, but it sucked for Mox and moreso Moriarty. I don't think they ever really got the crowd back in that match. First off, my thoughts on Colt have ZERO to do with CM Punk, but I've always found him (Cabana) overrated. Technically, he can be very smooth in the ring. He has charisma, but not nearly as much as people give him credit for. Most of all for me, he's always been presented as his character being "funny guy", but I've never found him even remotely funny. I haven't seen his stand up, it may be great, but I've never seen him translate that to his wrestling character. He does "silly" moves like the flying apple, and what else? Don't get me wrong, he's done some great stuff like his feud with Homicide and those title matches with Danielson in ROH. I just hear a lot about how he's not given a chance. But then he gets one last night, and he didn't look very good.

  31. Condolences to the haters - I watch Dynamite with Dean-mind! Also known as Gordlow-glow! I expect and accept imperfection. Tho, I hated the last two weeks of Rampage – that said, here’s my big announcement: I will continue to watch the B show! I loved everything about Darby-Lethal. These guys are a fun pairing. The tope crashing off Satnam was easily one of my favorite spots of ‘22. Darby Allin continues to have a banner year seemingly in the shadows by some of this cold talk. And there is nobody more underrated than Jay Lethal. I didn’t watch much of any TNA so a Jeff Jarrett debut doesn’t sting me. In fact, I’m fully game and excited for the ‘Last Outlaw’. Perhaps my excitement is in part the positioning with Lethal’s wonderful trio. Along with the idea of this being about a ‘legend’ putting over a very deserving Darb. Then we move onto an always fun Mox promo. I love that he cuts it directly into the camera - my only qualm here is that they don’t do more of these. Digging the silly Elite return tease vids. Mox-Lee was terrific. Building young’uns thru losses is one of TK’s better ideas. I love Ethan Page, but he needs to step up his game. He’s not showing the level of presence needed… yet. That said, I’m patient for him to find it, and I hope and kinda suspect ‘the office’ is too. Holy moly, the addition of Renee has thus far been fantastic. I can’t say the same of Saraya. Hoping to have my mind changed on that. The Birthday Bash had a tired and awkward Mack-Mann feel to it. I was watching Bowens and Caster shill their shit wondering how long before the crowd turns them heel again. No fault on this segment to Billy – he’s killing it out there! Man, FTR saves are the best saves in wrestling right now. Cabana v Jericho was a lot of fun. Loved the ‘Welcome Back’ chants. Cabana is incredibly underrated. And underutilized. I also la-la-loved the bullying of Riccaboni. I also love this Hammer time Pac shit! I was into the Fenix-OC-Lucha three way. I wish AEDub would've adopted the much better ECW 3 Way Dance elimination rules. Everybody knows Triple Threats are safe booking bullshit. Loved Jungle Jack’s fire out there. Let’s be patient and let Dylan McKay’s son go thru some growing pains, yeah? Shibata! A wonder what percentage of the crowd actually knows him (I for one have never seen a Shibata match). Then another odd surprise as Rick Ross kills it on the stick. Made the great Shane Strickland look money like he is. I'm so excited for the moment Keith Lee goes full heel! I missed most of Jade-Marina, but caught the awful idea of Vicki and Nyla commentating over the live mics? Seems like somebody might have snuck a peak at the Brandi Rhodes creative folder there? I also caught the exciting closing moments - Jade’s big pump kick is becoming a big ovation spot. And her finisher execution is terrific! I’m game to hear Malakai Black promo, but they oughtta help him out by putting a moratorium on these consistently lame spooky-scary taped videos. Did Budro lose his spot? I’m gonna give Cage-Joe a second spin because first time around it looked like a fucking awesome hoss fight! Puh-puh-puh-puh-Powerhouse! Wild, wacky, weird, fun show!

  32. I'm not a fan of Rick Ross (not anti-Rick Ross either...he's just not really within my popular culture purview) but he was AMAZING in that segment, especially when he just pointed at Lee and shouted "ACCUSATIONS!" I absolutely would love him to be a recurring AEW character. Also, The Acclaimed tease being adopted by Daddy Ass and the Ass Boys come out and DON'T sign the papers themsleves?! I mean the obvious route was them to beat up the Acclaimed and their Dad, then having one of Austin or Colton to sign the adoption papers, and then claim the Acclaimed as their children and shouting "WHO'S YOUR DADDY NOW?" to the Acclaimed. They could then sarcastically call Billy "Grampa Ass". I mean, it makes more sense than Mark Sterling somehow buying the "Scissoring" catch-phrase storyline from a month of so back.

  33. I thought this was one of the weirdest and wildest Dynamites in awhile. I really don't know how to feel about all of the shit that happened, but I was mostly pleased just by how off the wall it was. I think Jeff Jarrett sucks, but I'll admit to cracking a smile when he looked straight into the camera and said "choke on that, SLAP NUTS." It immediately brought me back to being 20 and my friends and I making fun of Jeff Jarrett in WCW. Darby feels pretty cold right now, but he's also someone that doesn't take a lot of effort to heat back up.
