  1. in this month of giving thanks, i want to appreciate all of the posters here at DVDVR. the depth of pro wrestling knowledge here is unparalleled. You can pick any promotion in the world, at any time in history, and somebody here can relate stories of being there, or watching it on tv, or recall backstage stories they've heard, or talk about 'this wrestler's run' or 'that wrestler's promos'. Truly an unprecedented opportunity for learning and understanding. And all while the discourse is kept to a (mostly) reasonable, rational level. Thank you all for contributing. i've seen probably thousands and thousands of hours of wrestling, and feel inadequate compared to some of you. that's a compliment. Much love.

  14. I like Rhett Titus’s weird offense. It’s unique and it’s primarily impactful rather than flashy. Kiera and Sky is an example of good work between two wrestlers who still need some reps. They don’t look lost, it’s more like they haven’t totally developed the muscle memory and dexterity to totally hide the strings. Dante/Cutler is permanent tape material for me. I don’t usually recognize the enhancement talent, but I’ve seen Kai before so this Athena match is pretty neat. Good stuff. Athena’s recent matches may have created more internet engagement around the Dark shows than any have before, so I’m under the impression we’ll keep seeing her throwing bombs every week for a while. I’ve heard pity in the voices of the booth before, but I don’t think it’s ever been over footing and rope running. Poor kilt man. Eddie’s looking lean and mean. We’re in for a fun winter with wherever he’s heading. Adora is capable of a lot more than making Jade look good, but I think she gets plenty of opportunities to show that so her getting steamrolled isn’t the worst. QT is a phenomenal player/coach for the younger wrestlers because he utilizes the fundamentals in a way that shows how far you can get just by having strong instincts and a prowess for the basic mechanics. Danhausen is Danhausen. So we have two minimalist geniuses wrestling accordingly. I think Dean called Rampage this week Elevation on steroids, and this has the vibe of a Rampage that people would say was a bit weak on star power but rules. What a fun hour.

  15. My favorite thing about Menard is how excited he gets about things we take for granted. Like when Jade was doing a foot choke in the corner. It comes off as really earnest.

  22. I mentioned this in the Indy thread, the cast of Riverdale showed up at the BOOM Pro Wrestling show in Vancouver Saturday night where I was the ring announcer and timekeeper. Here's Cole Sprause and I think Casey Cott with the new Vancouver City Champion Brady Malibu after the show. KJ Apa and a bunch of other from the show were there as well.

  25. What I loved about the Hogan/Blue match was that it was all about Hogan capitalizing on one mistake. Skye missed the second superkick and was just hanging out there vulnerable. Hogan used the opening, got a nasty kick in, and then hit the new finisher.

  26. I think Keira Hogan's new finisher is a variation on Suzu Suzuki's Tequila Shot.

  27. I missed the show because of Halloween and being drained beyond all belief for the Phillies even though they got rained out last night. Earth was simply not ready for a Phillies World Series home game on Halloween. But I did see this floating around on Twitter. Rhea Ripley is the best.

  28. CURE (Kiyoshi Kurosawa, 1997) IMDB ROTTEN TOMATOES SELECTED BY @J.T. I chose it because everyone talks about his 2001 movie, Pulse (Kairo), but I feel this is the movie that helped kick off the big J-Horror boom. REVIEWED BY @Travis Sheldon Cure is a 1997 psychological horror film by director Kiyoshi Kurosawa. It deals with the investigation of a series of seemingly unrelated murders where all of the killers have been found, but they have little to no rational for the killings. The suspects admit they did the killings, but they don't know why and neither do the police. One of the aspects of each murder is that each of the victims have had an X carved into their torso. Investigator Takabe is teamed with a psychiatrist, Sakuma, to help tie these killings together. Takabe seems to believe that the killers are under an outside party's influence. They discover their best lead when Mr Mamiya is taken in for questioning. Mamiya seems to have short-term memory loss and is constantly answering the police's questions with his own questions. Eventually Takabe discovers that Mamiya was a student of psychology and had keen interest in mesmerism and hypnosis. In the beginning of the film Takabe is very calm and methodical, but as his interactions with Mamiya increase the viewer follows his radical changes. The atmosphere in this film is palpable. Most of the sounds in the film come from ambient sources. The ending is ambiguous. A very deep film with Lynchian tones. I purposely didn't touch on Takabe's relationship with his wife and partner. I watched this on the Criterion Channel, but there is a version on YouTube and you can change the setting to get a rough translation of the text. Fans of psychological horrors like The Silence Of The Lambs should check it out. EDITOR'S NOTE I have no idea why Travis wrote this somewhat like a poem. I just go with the formatting reviews are sent to me. ? Some places list the year wrong because the movie got a 4K digital restoration and because places are stupid

  32. Yeah, I am not a big fan of splatter horror. More often than not, those movies end up being unintentionally hilarious rather than scary. I think that Savini's work in The Prowler is the only gorehound materiel that has really freaked me out. I have seen the Mordum films for the expressed purpose of being able to say that I have. They were stupid. I hate horror movies that are endured rather than enjoyed. The truly scary thing about Terrifier 2 is that fucking two-and-a-half-hour runtime. You are my hero for suffering through that for me, Curt.
