  2. The way it went down was, Triple H was posing in the mirror, thinking back to his glory days as the ace of WWE. Specifically that two-week period-uh, where he changed his promo voice-uh, to where he made an uh sound-uh, on the last consonant of the phrase he was speaking-uh. Then Shinsuke Nakamura waled in and said "Boss, can I wrestle The Great Muta in New Japan?" And Triple H said "No-uh".

  4. BONUS REVIEW: TERRIFIER 2 (DAMIEN LEONE, 2022) IMDB ROTTEN TOMATOES REVIEWED BY: @Curt McGirt Ah, the hardcore splatter film. After Silence of the Lambs won the Oscar, after the MPAA had the Mafia-esque influence of Jack Valenti extinguished, and people just got hardened over the years from tons of action and horror films, it flourished for awhile. The trend of so-called "torture porn" led to over ten Saw films and a bunch of really gross shit (I still refuse to see Mordum and whatever these other pictures are) while pretty much any level of gore is allowable in either horror OR action picture. For example I caught about half of the new Mortal Kombat picture last night and it was completely Grand Guignol, which I guess is "morally" okay because it's basically a live-action cartoon. TV is the same way. Yet it's hard to find a splatter movie that is just flat-out fun anymore while still being incredibly disgusting. Everything is either too painful or too serious. This one ain't that. It's a LOT of fun. The first Terrifier was a small flick that got a big cult following for its gore and its creepy-ass villain Art the Clown. I saw it and don't remember much except a lot of nastiness and being kind of bummed out at the nastiness. Maybe the clown was just too creepy for me. I dunno, it's been too long. Anyway, this sequel eventually got crowd funded, including a $50,000 effects scene just as a starting price. They got away with 250K and the movie was made despite the pause due to COVID. By now it's made $8 mil which is probably why I got to see it with my best friends at the theater tonight (which was at the big downtown theater and is ashambles. Haven't been there in ages and there were shit-stained bathroom doors and no lighting in the parking lot. At a theater!). The film itself is 2 1/2 hours but as the old adage goes it doesn't feel like it, rushing from gag to gag, victim to victim. Ace the Clown apparently is able to regenerate himself from a head wound and a missing eye in the morgue at the beginning meaning he's a supernatural entity. After his escape he immediately heads down to an all-night laundromat to wash his stained costume, floppy shoes and little hat, mock reading the paper, and murder a sleeping citizen while he's at it. A little girl version of him appears and apparently will be a continuing character in this (of course) series and man she is creepy as shit. This segues into us watching a young woman listening to some '80s-style darkwave and making a cool costume for Halloween. It's revealed this young woman is Sienna, an 18-year old or so high school student who lives with her mom and her 12-year old brother. Something has happened to their dad and it appears to have traumatized them in different ways. The younger brother definitely has dark interests (his wall is absolutely covered in posters and stickers of metal bands and he even has copies of Slayer's Hell Awaits and Mercyful Fate's Time among others up there). They're a handful for poor Mom who is constantly having to deal with shitty people on the phone at her home job while burning the food and yelling at the kids for the crazy shit that they end up to. Said crazy shit is the responsibility of Art the Clown, who proceeds to tear through their lives, their bodies, and the bodies of anyone in his way including Sienna's friends who are all going to a big Halloween party. The effects in this are just nuts. Everything is filmed in bright fluorescents like you just walked into somebody's house; you see EV-ERY-THING. And it's mirthfully inventive. Just to give an example: some asshole 24-year-old with an 18-year old girlfriend thankfully gets stabbed in the crotch like a dozen times and has his dick ripped off which is then used to write on a windshield. That might be to make good on the serious male gaze this film has for its lead... whos character is also an 18-year old girl. What can I say, it's a slasher film. One of the kills has to be the craziest and bloodiest thing on camera in years and years. It just has to be seen. Apparently during Covid the effects guys said "well this gives us a chance to tweak it" and they turned it into the wildest shit ever. Beyond that though, the performances are great and the characters in the family and even the kids' friends really work well. This is taken just serious enough for you to feel for them with a one-parent household, kids of different ages pulling in different ways, mother going crazy, unresolved shit in the past... it's the reason the film is so long, but it's world building, so necessary. The most important thing though is the film has a glint in its eye. Though Art is so disgusting and fucked-up looking his visual mannerisms are spot on and hilarious. It's nice to have a slasher villain who doesn't HAVE to quip. He can do it via miming... and aren't mimes scarier than clowns anyway? And even though the violence does get sadistic at moments like the cat 'o nine tails bit, you see that the cat 'o nine tails has surgical scissors at its end and that takes some of the sting out. It's comic book, it's not snuff film. The rest of the violence is pure gonzo to its core and if you don't laugh at it, you definitely don't have the same sense of humor I do. If you share that then check it out. EDITOR'S NOTE I will post again this afternoon but I wanted to get this up ASAP due to the timeliness and since Curt clearly risked life and limb seeing it according to the media.

  5. I hope it is Davey, because 1) he’ll hopefully be as Davey Richards as Davey Richards can be and 2) having him and Regal in the same promotion brings me one step closer to seeing a real life version of an EWR angle I booked where Regal managed the American Wolves in NXT, they turned their back on the US and became the New Blue Bloods, Lord David Richards and Earl Edward Edwards.

  11. And that General Rection shit was, to my mind, AWFUL. I haven't seen it in literal decades, but when I get to that point in my watch, I'll be interested to see if I found it as tiresome as I did as a teen. Morrus might be the most overpushed guy relative to his abilities during that era, if we take "overpushed" as meaning "a higher level than warrants his talent" + "a longer time than should have been invested in him." This dude was never at a point where making him the center of his own stable and putting him into a long series of feuds over the secondary singles title was a good idea.

  12. Parka could've been what Penta is today. And that's not a knock on either guy. Guy had/has crazy charisma and could work his ass off at the drop of a hat... even by most of the luchador standards he was so incredibly underutilized.

  13. La Parka would have been super over in '96-'98 WCW if they had given him ANYTHING. He always seemed to get a pretty decent pop as far as luchadores go, and he never once was in a feud or even a meaningful singles match. i would have loved to see him mix it up in the TV title scene at any point- Regal, Ultimo Dragon, Saturn, Booker T, Benoit, Finlay, Jericho all held that belt in like a 2 year time period. He would have tore it up with any of those guys. Or hell, give Parka and Psychosis a little run as a real tag team and have them beat some of the jobber teams. Nothing but wasted opportunity. Speaking of Psychosis, it's a damn shame we never got him vs. Liger at some point before Nicho lost his mask. What a visual that would have been.

  16. Started watching an old episode of Thunder last night. Was there ever a guy who consistently got air time during the Monday Night Wars that just didn't make any effort whatsoever to make their character work quite like Hugh Morrus? Dumb play on words name, guy who likes to laugh but also has question marks on his tights that doesn't really laugh much in or out of the ring or asks any questions. Doesn't really factor into his in-ring work, his character or his motivations. The guy does get surprisingly good pops for some of his moveset - the moonsault is a pretty good spectacle for someone his size but still dwarfed by guys like Bam Bam and Vader who were bigger, and doing them better also. He may as well have been Crash The Terminator (another yuck name) and no-one would have noticed. Anyway, this match was him vs. La Parka. The crowd are surprisingly into it, despite there being no clear indication who was the face/heel, or any storyline reason for this match to occur, and its a fun little sprint, both guys hit their big spots, La Parka gets his heat back after losing clean to the moonsault by smashing him with a chair afterwards. Got me thinking about a few things. Would La Parka have been super over had he come around today instead of 20 years earlier? Or would he just be another Penta because of the spam taunts? Were things better in this period because the crowd was so hot, you didn't HAVE to spam taunts or hit spots that were there purely for the crowd reaction, because the crowd popped for the big moves anyway? Or did this just lead to an increasing need to raise the stakes for what constituted a big move to get a pop from a crowd less and less interested as the boom period wore down? That subsequently, working a smarter style around comedy based crowd interaction not only improved longevity in the business, but provided a live experience for people that was slightly more friendly to the casual observer/non-fan? I think I enjoyed the in-ring product that didn't necessarily rely on crowd participation or a focus purely on it, but I also appreciate what it was able to achieve for maintaining a level of in-ring safety.

  18. I saw the "reformed" DKs for about five minutes before I walked out due to the Jello impersonator they'd hired. I really regret that now. Darren increasing the speed and complexity of the drumming on those records caused a seismic shift in punk rock and heavy metal music. Imagine if he stuck around in RHCP and we'd never had gotten Chad Smith!

Rich people engage in philanthropy because the alternative is giving everyone free health care and (gasp) paying more taxes - so they'd rather throw menial amounts of money away and take credit for it Any country that has its citizens begging for money on GoFundMe to cover medical bills and other basic expenses is irreparably broken

  23. HAPPY HALLOWEEN! As I await young pukes to show up and take my precious candy, I will watch the ELEVATION! So far no youngsters have shown up. I live in a depressed neighborhood as far as Chesterfield county is concerned. Diamante! Madison Rayne! Daddy Magic likes Rayne's sparkly coat. Diamante Beats on Rayne enough to get the crowd into Madison Rayne's STRUGGLE to escape the opening match offense of Diamante. Hey! Rayne did a slick roll-up for the pin. Well, it was kind of awkward to set-up, but it was Rayne SHOWBOATING her limberness. It's Rhett Titus! HE is a former ROH TV Champion so HE is challenging Jericho Wednesday! Here, he wrestles Frankie Kazarian, who used Option C with the X-Division title last week. Titus hits the standing dropkick! Titus hits a very odd spinning Suplex Thingy. Kazarian does a Diamond Cutter variation for the win. It's Keira Hogan! It's Skye Blue! Kiera Hogan is a Baddie, so she isn't supposed to win. I am very old. Hogan whips out a neat new finisher! It was like a Dangerous Backdrop but spinning and crazy. That was surprising. AWESOME! BRANDON CUTLER! And it's Dante Martin! This should rule. I must disagree with Schiavonne. Brandon Cutler is ALSO ruggedly handsome. Dante Martin and Cutler both trip like comic clutzes! Cutler uses Martin's sudden clumsiness to get in his dancing Elbow Spots! It gets extended! Martin gets MAD PHAT AIR! I wish that was longer. Janai Kai! She should work stiffer if her gimmick is that she is a MMA ass kicker. Athena WILL lay it in so Kai should lay it in. Kai kicks her in the back a lot. Athena returns by kicking the fuck out Kai. THEN, Athena IS the Nasty Boys as she beats the living shit out of Janai Kai. Kai takes Athena's finisher the best of anyone so far. Athena is so fucking awesome. Postmatch, she STARTS turning heel! The Best Friends wrestle 3 dudes. Eddie Kingston and Ortiz wrestle 2 dudes! Eddie Kingston does his Kenta Kobashi corner thing. HE does the Kawada Stretch Plum and doesn't let go! Eddie Kingston is going WILD! HEY! IT'S TRISH ADORA! It's AEW Women's Division DEFENDER OF THE FAITH, JADE CARGILL! It's Leila Grey! Grey is on her second year of her career so she is actually really good. Trish Adora takes an ass beating like someone who needs to get signed. Nyla Rose shows up postmatch banging trashcan lids and doing her Brandon Cutler dance moves! This is fun. Danhausen brings his BattlARTSIAN wrestling stylings to the ring. It's the NUMBER ONE HEAT MACHINE IN AEW, QT MARSHALL!!! Danhausen starts by CRUSHING HIS HEAD! HE'S CRUSHING HIS HEAD! He is also giving away the secret of his gimmick. They work an Arm Wringer and Headlock section as we go back to 1974 Mid Atlantic Wrestling in Norfolk, Virginia. Danhausen channels Wahoo McDaniel and hits a batch of Knife-Edged Chops! QT throws great punches. GREAT Backbreaker by QT! GREAT Verical Suplex and Elbow Drops by QT. QT GARNERS THE HEAT by wearing Danhausen's cape! SWEET Released Northern Lights Suplex by Danhausen! Hey! It's Lee Johnson! HE TURNS HEEL and chucks Danhausen into the ringpost! Danhausen doesn't fucking BLADE so I am disappointed. QT hits the Diamond Cutter to get the pin! That was great! Needed blood. Big Shotty is marrying Julia Hart so he has to TURN EVIL! That was fun episode of Elevation.

  32. Bill Watts needed to pay One Man Gang enough to get some new tights without his Crusher Broomfield initials on them. How much could a couple singlets with OMG on them cost? Come on, man. Paul Orndorff's tights with the family name's initial first also bother me. Is he wearing them inside out, or does he just feel that the way names are commonly written in Asian cultures are more appropriate for his outlook on naming conventions?

  34. Yeah, I remember during the original WOW that there was the concept of "WOW Good", where one of their ultra green trainees would have a competent match. The second reiteration had actual trained wrestlers so WOW Good was good wrestling in spite of the weird ass gimmick. The main event was General Wrestling Good. So was the Holidead/Chainsaw match.
