  1. He didn't call Khan out. Also, when he talks about the last two years, you gotta look at that as referring to WWE and AEW. As for AEW, the fuck are they supposed to do when it comes to upholding promises when the guy's back is beyond fucked? And despite that, Black and the rest of the House of Black were always in a featured position. I think the biggest thing from that is the mountain of shit he's had to deal with over the last couple years. The thing about he and his wife dealing with the loss of life really stands out and makes me wonder if she had a miscarriage. And on top of that, a friend killing themselves, not to mention having depression and a fucked back are a terrible combination, yeah, I think the guy has earned a lot of time off to do whatever makes him happy.

  2. There's a really fine line between having a cool, dark stable and just being kinda lame and not believable. You can be kind of creepy and hint at the satanic, supernatural, pagan, or whatever your fancy. But when you go just a slight bit too far, it's just mall goth edgelord bullshit. Somebody should have reigned the House of Black in a tiny bit. Spooky gang of creeps? Cool. Spooky gang of creeps who are cursing people and turning them evil via black mist? No thanks. I think things started to go downhill when Matthews joined, too. Two tatted up weirdos with cool names? Yes. But then they're joined by a guy with no tattoos who spends more time doing curls than reading Lovecraft. And his name is BUDDY. Nothing is threatening about that. Worse fit than Roma joining the horsemen.

  4. Malakai was Moses, he wasn’t supposed to see the promised land. Julia Hart is Joshua; she’s going to lead the HoB until they conquer AEW and she’ll break down the Walls of Jericho by tapping out Lionheart with her slick submission hold.

  11. That's how I read it, too. He's being referenced on AEW television. His faction is still a thing. I think AEW certainly believes he'll be wrestling in their ring when and if he gets back. I probably want that more than is healthy, but I truly believe the only place he'll have the creative leeway to flesh out his character and lore is with Tony Khan. He's someone you put the World Title on when he's healthy.

  12. Oficiales vs. Cerebros just barely steals it from Danielson/Jericho. Everybody bleeding + intelligent baking sheet pro wrestling was fun, really appriciated Cerebro Negro Jr.'s babyface work, but I wasn't sure it was gonna overtake until the finish. The dueling martinetes and understated stretcher jobs post-match were so tasty. Pretty sure there was a hair match callout at the end and yeah I'm down for that too.

  13. I have so much 1988 WWF to watch. I had to hotshot this tonight, but here we are. Clayton vs Lycan overdelivered. Zack was doing some small things (like grinding the face on the pin) very well. He sold the punch the whole way through too. I saw more from him here than I have in any of his matches so far. You kind of spend Elevation now wondering who's working out with the BCC and who's not and Clayton actually wouldn't surprise me after this one. They didn't replay his finish. Funny, that B3CCA got a tiny bit of shine but then got absolutely crushed on the spear. Ian and Menard were a bit rough to start but they would be rather well in sync by the end of the show. The Shafir promo was unfortunate but she has to get experience somehow, right? That Private Party vs MSP match was just tons of fun. It had a sort of party feel to it, celebratory almost. I wouldn't want fifteen minutes of it with a commercial break but for a three minute competitive squash, it was a hell of a thing. That's my sweet spot for spotfests I guess. I liked all the cartwheel stuff in the Skye vs Chica match but yeah, this is why we have Skye beat Jade NEXT year and not this year, right? I badly want to see Dalton Castle/Boys vs Chaos Project. Luther throwing Serpentico as Dalton threw the boys. It's magic waiting to happen. You could have them fight off a hundred ninjas even! Possibilities are endless. I hope Jora's working with the BCC. Nice little finishing tease on the chicken wing. Mascara Dorada vs Serpentico was a really fun few minutes. The spot where Serpentico went sliding out of the ring and Dorada immediately hit a moonsault to the outside was nuts because Serpentico barely had time to position and plant himself and he still based perfectly for it. That's one of those things that didn't register as a big moment, but when you stop and think about it, the skill and gumption involved is just nuts, right? Can we get Dante vs Dorada now? Butcher and Blade are basically the babyface 97 Faces of Fear. It'd be nice if they play them up as faces just a little bit longer. Maybe have them save "new champion" acclaimed from a Gunn Club beat down and immediately turn on them or something.

  23. Not sure if this should go here or in the main thread, but Malakai Black issued a statement on instagram concerning his current situation- “All. Firstly thank you all for your messages, know they are being read and appreciated. With all the turmoil going on in the landscape of Professional Wrestling I took the time to think of my words but also needed to wait until conversations between mine and AEW’s camp had come to a conclusion. Firstly, I dislike reading parts of my private conversations between myself and AEW in regards to my mental well being on the internet. These conversations were private and not meant to be shared with the public. As by now most people realize I am a very private person and do not feel the need to have stuff like this out on the internet. If you’ve been following me longer than a cup of coffee you’re aware I’ve spoken about them prior but would like to be the one deciding when this finds it’s way to the public and not through someone else’s mouth, as with anything through the lips of someone else: that story gets distorted. Secondly, to be in line with the above, they also need context: I did indeed ask for my release, the last 2 years of my life have lended to a lot of set backs. Both me and my wife have been affected by uncontrollable actions from the outside that resulted in loss of life, medical set backs, career jeopardizing, the suicide of a close friend and a close family member almost losing their life, then experiencing an injury that I was sure was the end of my career. I spend every week going through several sessions of rehab, dry needling and therapy just to be able to walk and compete. Now this being the tip of the iceberg and with the combination of the promises in my professional field that were not upheld which resulted as a combination of all of these to a complete demoralization of life and career. This decision had been in my mind for the past six months. It’s hard to really put a finger and say ‘this was the moment it all went wrong.’ But I can tell you after many years that I have learned from a rational point of view to see when I need to hit the breaks; which is what this is. Perhaps once my mind settles on certain things and processes the last 2 years a bit better I will convey (via a different platform than written out) what the exacts were that happened, and have a more informed conversation about them. For now know that I am good, and am taking, for the first time in 22 years, a few months to recalibrate the last 2 decades of my life. Lastly, I have read a few narratives online in regards to my ‘release’, mental health and my personal life that I can summarize swiftly; if it didn’t come from me, it didn’t happen. Stuff about conditional releases, stuff in my marriage or using said mental health to leverage the other when as I said before that part wasn’t even going to be part of the public conversation are false. My marriage is fine, I am fine. It is just time to make sure those things stay that way. Once again, I appreciate your support and we will see each other soon enough. MB”

  25. I really enjoyed the combonation of Daddy Magic and Ian Riccobani. Never heard of Ian, but he did a pretty good job. Daddy Magic and I had a moment, as we both went 'What did she do?" when we heard B3cca served community service. Loved Danger Kid and Aggro! I've never seen Dalton Castle & The Boys before, but I'm instantly a fan, he's definitely now in my boy stable.

  29. Since 96/97 has been taken many times over, I’ll take 1983. Use Shreveport as a base to hit up all things Mid South in OK/LA and could make the quick trip to Dallas for WCCW, Houston for Bosch. Irish McNiel’s tapings. Seems like a good time. Could catch very early WWF boom and JCP on TV. It’s all good.

  35. Rick Rude (c) vs The Ultimate Warrior ---------@SirSmellingtonofCascadiawas right, this is a good match! We start off with a package detailing the history of this program. I'm already wary because at one point, Rude piledrives Warrior and it's a herculean effort to get him to go up. Later, they're, I guess, doing a gimmick where Warrior carries his jobber prey back to the dressing room, and he just drops this jobber in the entranceway with zero care at all. Neither gives me warm feelings for how this match is going to go. Also, at one point in the package, Warrior tries to press slam Rude from the ring onto Andre on the floor and Andre just says "fuck this, boss" on the catch and Rude eats floor. Not to say I can blame Andre, since, in his deteriorating health, catching 200 plus pound Rude from five feet above would have turned him to dust like Thanos snapped his fingers. They start the match with Warrior no-selling all Rude's stuff and returning fire on him. "That's a smart way to do the shine," I think to myself. "Just have Warrior do the bare minimum and let Rude do the work. Hide Warrior's lack of skill." BUT THEN Warrior tosses Rude out of the ring and hits him with a VERTICAL SUPLAY and I'm like WHERE THE FUCK DID THAT COME FROM? Warrior takes over on offense and this match vs their awful Mania 5 encounter are night and day. He's doing more than just turnbuckle whips and bearhugs. His offense looks good. He's not clumsy or dropping Rude on his head. This is really good! There was a scary part for me when Warrioir hit Rude with two turnbuckle whips and I was deathly afraid he'd go back to a bearhug. But he didn't, so cool. Moves Warrior did in this match that I forgot he could do: sweet-ass powerslam where you catch your opponent running (I thought he only did that in the Wrestlefest game!), running powerslam, another vertical suplex in the ring! And more. To be honest, though, Warrior still needed to tighten up that clothesline. I can't check the WWE history page because it appears to have been hijacked by people selling black market dick pills. Can someone tell me who Warrior worked on house shows between Mania and Summerslam? It's crazy how much better he got from show to show. Did he just work Rude for five months, perfecting the match? I could believe that, because Rude is so fucking good. Rude gets the heat cutting off a Warrior top rope move -- Warrior had hit one successfully earlier (!) -- and then the heat is all restholds. Which I can forgive because Warrior needed to get his wind back after that sprint of a shine. Warrior does fuck up on a Rude piledriver attempt, though, neglecting to grab the legs and just hanging there. So Rude, just strong as fuck, just horks him up a little higher to save his life and hits a Ganso Bomb. God DAMN. Speaking of which, again, don't let the old heads bitch about how nobody respects moves anymore. Warrior took TWO piledrivers here and neither was the finish. Finish comes when Roddy Piper (ugh) comes out and shows Rude his pasty white ass, allowing Warrior to SUPLEX RUDE OFF THE BUCKLES and go to his finishing sequence for the win. This would have been better without the interference, but they needed to transition Rude to Piper for the houses. Again, this was a really good match and so much better than that god awful Mania 5 match. I can definitely see Vince watching this and getting a massive erection figuring Warrior for his top guy down the road. I really do need to know how he improved so quickly because I wouldn't even give Mania 5 Warrior my fifth-tier belt. Now I can't wait for the next Summerslam as, apparently, it's Rude/Warrior in a cage. Four matches to go. My god, the next three undercard bouts before the main look awful. Luckily, they total in time just a little longer than this one. Still, I reserve the right to do a game day scratch and FFWD. Depends on how I'm feeling. Thanks again for reading!

  36. What a stark contrast to around when Danielson came in. I might be misremembering, but wasn't it the fact that the locker room was so tight lipped about Brodie being one of the reasons Danielson decided to come to AEW?

  40. It was, but at the same time I wonder if that was the intention of the comment. I kind of read it as Colt talking a lot of shit about legal action and when Punk threatened the same in return, Colt then brought up the shared bank account as a reason to dissuade Punk from it. Maybe I just interpreted it wrong. The whole thing just seems very odd. The Elite seem like a pack of spoilt brats who like to talk shit and Punk seems like a guy who can't handle that sort of thing anymore and has zero tact. I don't condone the rant and what follows, but looking at things from his perspective, as an actual major star coming in, he could have been the stereptype of a guy who only works main events, never loses and never shows weakness, but he's worked with younger talent, made them look good and has brought new eyes to the product while outwardly promoting a positive image of the company. If he'd genuinely tried to be the team player and then this shit started, I could see why that as a guy already known for having a quick temper, that this might set that off. The Bucks have openly said that they push people's buttons to get a response, going back to the Booker T thing over a decade ago. Or the shit they used to do on Twitter, but they do strike me as guys who really don't like it when people bite back at them as well.
