  1. I've said it before and I'll say it again, we don't deserve Malcolm Bivens.

  7. I'm really hoping Danielson and Moxley team up to form a dojo and it's just like Cobra Kai with Moxley as Johnny and Danielson as...Daniel-san (FUCKING PERFECT). Bryan trying his damnedest to teach youngsters the fine points of grappling arts, only to get exasperated when Moxley is teaching them about barbed wire and bulldog chokes, would be the best.

  10. There was that Chris Candido story (that I'm poorly paraphrasing here) where he said that he wrestled Ahmed who hoisted him up in a suplex then just let him go and he fell on his head and Candido thought to himself "Well everyone makes mistakes" then he did it again to him next match and Candido went backstage and said something along the lines of "That guys sucks!" and Ahmed found out and came after him and said he was going to kick Candido's ass and Candido replied along the lines of "Yeah you're bigger than me and you can probably beat me up but this is fake fighting and at fake fighting, you suck!"

  11. I'll admit, I'm mostly soured on Lesnar and most of what constitutes "part timers" these days, but at least LEsnar admittedly moves the needles and I've said it before, this is one of my favorite versions of Brock(him winning the rumble, not so much). But Goldberg? I feel like every time he is trotted out to undercut someone's push, etc, there is a collective groan of disgust from the audience. If you have to pull him out of mothballs to do 2 moves horribly, he doesn't need to be in the title scene, he doesn't even need to be close to it. If he had a sell by date, he's well past it (I'm biased though as I'd argue his sell by date was the late 90's, early 2000's). I'm with you on Fuck Hogan Natural, but I'm also adding Fuck Goldberg too, lol

  12. Not gonna lie, I loved Ahmed as a kid because I thought the Pearl River Plunge was the coolest move ever. Him coming back and joining NOD really killed him for me though like dude Farooq tried to KILL YOU. And always....

  14. Best Use of Shane in AEW in my opinion: Have him Madusa the World Cup on Dynamite and enter the Owen Cup. Wardlow pulverizes him into the mat in the first round. Transition him to a backstage job as Eddie Kingston’s sole producer when he’s in the booth on Dark.

  15. The backstage segment with Martinez, Britt, and Hayter was like 90 seconds long but so effective. It hinted at/progressed towards three matches. Martinez vs. Hayter, Hayter vs. Britt, and the final goal of Rosa vs. Britt. That Baker is so terrified of and petty towards Thunder Rosa is really good heeling and long-term groundwork laying for Rosa finally dethroning her (we thinking Double or Nothing or All Out?). If Hayter weren't just Britt's heater and got more singles wins like Wardlow, you could really push that she could be the next champ but there's too much unfinished business between Rosa and Baker for it to go any other way. My guess is DoN is Hayter after Baker dumps her for Martinez or Hayter has enough of Britt's shit, then Rosa beats Baker at All Out.

  16. i'm like two bottles of wine in and i'm trying to tack on thoughts to my old google doc of a Unified Theory of Modern Professional Wrestling. i want to get all academic w/ this shit, or maybe all 95 Theses, but all i got is the narcissism of an intelligent but distracted millennial and a community college degree in theater~ Professional wrestling must be predominantly understood as a performance art and predominantly presented as sport. Understanding or presenting professional wrestling entirely as performance art or entirely as sport goes against its very nature (and in a post-kayfabe environment is either impossible or pointless). The primary storytelling goals of pro-wrestling, as dictated by the nature of the fictional objectives of the artform, are that of philosophical and moral beliefs being argued via violence - particularly retributive violence. Belief that the main purpose of professional wrestling is athletic exhibition is a fallacy. The fallacy is primarily derived from professional wrestling’s use as wish fulfillment amongst adolescent males. Professional wrestling cannot be properly criticized without considering the gradual shift between the audience's kayfabe/post-kayfabe understanding of the artform. Parts of professional wrestling that are heavily tied to the audience’s understanding of kayfabe, i.e. heel heat, audience expectation and desire, movesets, implication of outcomes, etc. can only be properly criticized when taking into account the intended audience’s knowledge of kayfabe. Successful professional wrestling criticism must be able to differentiate between quarter-hour segment-based serialized wrestling television + the match-driven format of house shows and PPVs. A majority of wrestling criticism - notable Meltzer-derived criticism - is fundamentally flawed because of this and because of its attachment to the previously mentioned bias towards professional wrestling as athletic exhibition There's a bunch of this kinda stuff. Unfinished thoughts about the dissonance between three types of viewers - a live crowd, someone watching on TV live or w/ no context, or someone watching "historically". The idea of the literal vs. the figurative? or the presentational vs. representational? As it pertains to reality vs. realism vs. the unrealistic. Like OH MY GOD every time I watch really good lucha libre I think about those three things. The context between pro wrestling / real sports & an audiences' knowledge of said context (very pertinent w/ a post-kayfabe audience trending nerdier & more female). yadda yadda I just get lost in this particular sauce sometimes. And I'm glad I raised myself on old Workrate Reports and stuff like Segunda Caida because there's just so little understanding or discourse about this stuff with the majority of the wrestling "fandom" (I got a lot to say about that concept, too). Even super-mainstream forms of entertainment and art have people that talk about this, film and music being the obvious ones - whether it's a young person's Lindsey Ellis & Anthony Fantano, or mainstream pre-internet types like Kurt Loder and Roger Ebert, or me being a kind of analytical dweeb that gets a ton enjoyment from reading old Pauline Kael & Robert Christgau. Maybe this is all a broader critique of criticism and how people (maybe always have) just seek out opinions that agree with their initial feelings. I don't know where I'm going with this but the idiot kids on reddit deserve something better than Meltzer and Cagematch. We gotta lay some philosophies out 'n shit~

  17. Whoever it is, please spare us the cliche “I was overlooked up north Brother” promo. “‘I’m free now.” “The boys in the back up there would be here with me if they could.” “It feels great to join the best WRESTLING COMPANY in the world.” I’m good without all that.

  21. People shit on him now about how unsafe he was but we've had Tamina and Nia Jax and other unsafe and unrefined workers since that were much less Charismatic and over and make him look like Nicholas Warren Bockwinkle in comparison

  23. They've said that because Western fans wouldn't really get "desu", they were sticking with Death, since she says "desu" constantly while using it to mean "death". And Yoneyama approved Death for English speaking fans. Also Fukigen is in Katakana, not Hiragana. Look at the official Stardom website. Gokigen was also Katakana.

  24. This is incredible. A complete sprint all the way through, big guys with BIG gas tanks just plowing into each other at 2x speed for 15 minutes with no let up, and everything is STIFF. At one point Tenryu has to take a breather and Hansen just keeps pounding away. An absolute gem of a match that might have cracked my top ever list. If AEW or any other federation could pull a six man off like this, everyone would wet their pants.

  27. Really hoping for something different creatively, I always heard rumors back in the day that the Vice City follow up would be set in the 70s. I’d really like to see that, or even the 60s, maybe in a return to Vice City, or perhaps a mid century view of a city in decline like Detroit. Maybe I’m too willfully ignorant but I’d rather not see a game set during or around the pandemic and the ugliness that is the American sociopolitical landscape, just give me subtle hints at it and social commentary from a more cleverly disguised perspective. Also I really hope they open up the mission structure more. Nakeyjakey did a great video you can find on YouTube about RDR2 and how the openness of the world completely clashes with the on rails mission structure.

  28. I am finally able to watch Dynamite. I am pretty behind. The Mox/Bryan story has a really good beginning. A fun feud tease with a good plot twist. The Kings of the Black Throne vs Pac/Penta match was just not for me. I hate the second for the Death Triangle and his black gloves. The match itself was fine, save for this ref who does enforce tag rules, which I hate. I think Dan Lambert is a great heel. But I could care less about Brandi. Snooze button. I really liked a lot of the Ruby Soho versus Nyla match. Ruby is not the best natural athlete. But she is arguably the most natural actress/actor in pro wrestling. She is so good at how she reacts to everything and is a fantastic seller. She is perfect for someone like Nyla. I hated the end though. They just went a little too much. It would have been great if Vicki’s interference led directly to the finish as opposed to the rough sequence with the top rope stuff. Fun angle with the Cowboy and Murderhawk to set up the match. The Jericho slow-burn heel turn getting into a feud with Eddie is pretty good. Eddie Kingston needs to get the world title before it is too late. I have tuned out the Punk/MJF mic-work segments. But I do like this feud a lot of the young prick against the living legend. CM Punk in Chicago is the best crowd reaction possibly ever. The Punk punching MJF slingshot stuff was such great 80s stuff. I love everything about this match. It feels like some Tully Blanchard defending the TV title against Ron Garvin or something like that. The first match I remember watching as a child was when Randy Savage beat Tito Santana for the IC Title. Savage win with some kind of foreign weapon usage. I was hooked from life from there. A few years ago, there was an incredible and legendary regular season basketball game between Golden State and Oklahoma City. In terms of significance, there was not much. It was a regular season game between two excellent teams. But the incredible ending and atmosphere and everything made it a perfect first basketball game for a kid to watch. This is not the best match of all-time. But it’s an awesome match with a great story and two very clear characters. It builds to the dramatic spots perfectly. MJF is a great heel and knows how to make all of his selling and gestures play to the very back of the arena. My son is too young to get into wrestling yet. But, man, there is a six or seven year old kid out there who watched Dynamite and this match and is going to be posting on message boards about this match a few decades later.

  29. Who would be the worst possible signing that AEW could bring in as their huge surprise? There are so many options! Enzo Amore? Velveteen Dream? Marty Scurll? Lars Sullivan? Bully Ray? "Auntie Vax" Nia Jax? Michael Elgin? Alberto Del Rio? Taichi (without Miho Abe)? My top choices, just in terms of what would pop me, personally, considering who might be available: Tucky (to team with Bear Country and dominate AEW's trios division) 2 Cold Scorpio (as Flash Funk) Kizarny (seezo heeze ceezood ceezut preezumeezo eezeen kizarneezy about how they never used him right "up North") Chris Masters (to have a Hercules vs Billy Jack style feud with Dark Order #10 over who has the best Full Nelson) Damien Sandow (to do for "less talented Miz" what he did for regular Miz) Trevor Murdoch (to team with JD Drake, possibly as "The Murdoch brothers" in matching Dick Murdoch cosplay gear), (Oh! and maybe John Wayne Murdoch could join them, in the trios division) My actual dream pick: El Hijo del Vikingo (because El H del V in AEW would be too much fun) And one last one that might possibly only surprise and delight me: Kotoge, Harada, and Tadasuke (to reprise Momo no Seishun in AEW's new trios division)

  30. Just imagine if it's Lita. She comes back for the Rumble, accepts a high profile Saudi booking, does TV to hype the Saudi booking, and then jumps to AEW before the match happens. And then goes on TV to talk about how the WWE-Saudi deal is disgusting and everyone supporting the company should be ashamed of themselves.

  34. The only issue with Jay is that he'd make MJF look mid by comparison. Jay is absolutely the most valuable commodity in wrestling, fantastic worker, fantastic promo, great person, can work any style. For AEW, he'd be even more valuable- he has history with Hangman, Kenny, and Mox. Jay/Page was the Lollapalozza blow-up match for both of them back in 2018.
