  5. Wrestling I watch weekly: AEW Dynamite Paradigm Pro's UWFI Rules contenders series After that, really just anything I come across on IWTV that might be good. Thank you @Greggulatorfor bringing attention to that thing you brought attention to. Just when I think that company and its adjacent pursuits couldn't dig lower, they hit a new subfloor of shit. I haven't watched anything from them in four years and see no reason to start up again now.

  12. I'm re-watching Captain Marvel right now and this movie really got way too much hate. It's not nearly as bad as people want to make it out to be. Bad as The Dark World or Iron Man 3? Absolutely not. Good as Winter Soldier or Iron Man 1 or whatever else? Probably not. It's mid-tier at best, but it's certainly not BAD. My only complaint is that the CGI when she puts on the mohawk helmet thing is kinda wonky. Infinity War had the same problem with certain things (Banner in the Hulkbuster armor, chiefly among them). Brie Larson can be a little wooden at times, but she's not anywhere as bad as, say, Keanu Reeves (sorry Keanu fans). I've never done this before, but I think I'm going to do Infinity War/Endgame back to back next.

  14. I got my vaccine via my frontline NHS job. Make sure you take the day off work the next day. Working an eleven and a half hour shift after that wasn’t a good idea. Also, our useless English government has to tighten restrictions again. Christ knows how given it’s a national lockdown, but who am I to question the logic of a Prime Minister who laughed at the idea of a two week lockdown before being forced into a four week lockdown and then a national lockdown a month or so after the four week lockdown ended. Seriously though, if there’s a way to try a Prime Minister as a criminal for sheer awfulness I’d love to hear it. Boris Johnson is an absolute wanker. ETA - and apparently he went for a seven mile bike ride. After telling everyone else to stay at home. The sheer hubris...

  18. Yeah, and I think the piling on of "you must have done something wrong" is a little unfair. People who don't leave their house except to get groceries or people who went to go visit their mother once in six months end up getting it, as well. A lot of it is kind of bad luck plus behavior. These wrestlers are, at least if we can believe the companies now, tested more than the average workforce so hopefully the Covid police don't come down too hard and hopefully everyone is fine.

  20. Honestly, I really don't understand why more wrestlers these days aren't watching stuff like French wrestling or European wrestling for ideas for spots, etc. Some of those pins and counters are way better than just some shitty roll-up we see thirty times a week on RAW.

  21. To go one step further, I'll pass on seeing anyone extra in AEW right now. They have a big roster as is. Like, Jay White is the probably the crown jewel out there right now and he'd be an incredible hire, but how do you sign someone like that and not strap a jetpack to his back and shoot him into the World title picture? A World title held by a heel. I suppose having a Jay White is a nice problem to have and a problem TK wouldn't mind happening, but as a fan and viewer invested in current storylines, it all feels like shitty timing. I'd love to have Jay White, but I don't want to interupt ongoing storylines. As always, if this were an Io that were available, I'd say give her any amount of money she would want. Same goes for Sasha, Charlotte, Bayley, Rhea, Dakota, Storm, or Belair.

  28. I have a feeling he is asymptomatic at the moment otherwise there is no way they would put him on TV (via Zoom) tonight. Usual caveat that his symptoms can change AND that the WWE doesn't necessarily make the wisest decisions

  32. That weirdo tag match with these two against each other in the other thread led me to this. Abdullah chews on Mick's hair and throws a fireball at the end. Obviously, he could have a great promo without saying anything.

  33. It's Cena. This was the year Cena was begging for a WM match, lost in the Rumble, 'used his position' to get into Elimination Chamber, lost again, and then called out Taker and got ghosted.

  35. I think it's fascinating that a key change in all of pro wrestling happened when I was 7 years old watching Mid-Atlantic Championship Wrestling. Johnny Valentine, Wahoo McDaniel, and the Super Destroyer basically created Strong Style. Make it look real, lay it in, be very big. It deeply affected my views of wrestling. God, watch this match. It is textbook Mid-Atlantic strong style.

  36. Kevin Feige on episode counts for Marvel Studios TV shows: "We're looking at it as developing them as either six hour-episodes, or nine or 10 half-hour episodes," he reveals. "So, for instance, WandaVision started that way and Falcon and the Winter Soldier as 30 minutes, but because it's streaming, it's Disney+, and the rules have blurred over the years, yes. Some can be 23 minutes. Some can be much longer than that." "But She-Hulk, for instance, is being developed as 10 30-minute episodes. Some will be longer and some will be shorter. Loki, Falcon and the Winter Soldier is being developed as six 40-50-minute episodes. "Feige went on to add that Moon Knight is also going to fit into the same category as The Falcon and The Winter Soldier and Loki.

  40. I think that's right, so long as the motivations and attitudes make sense, AEW doesn't have to rely as heavily on standard face/heel delineation. However, I'd argue that the truly great matches in North America tend to come from solid good vs evil setups, or at least good dude vs jerk, that allow for some catharsis and AEW has robbed itself of some of these journeys by having things a little too nebulous. Take Cody's back and forth style over the course of 2020 that was so frustrating to me. He's wrestling for these big, emotional reactions but he doesn't want to do the proper leg work for them. I'm listening to him on Jericho's pod because I hate myself and he said he didn't want to appear on Dynamite between losing the TNT title to Brodie Lee and the dog collar match. Chris had to talk him into coming in earlier than that and showing that he had faced his failure and learned from it and was a more focussed and dangerous wrestler now through wrestling instead trying to convey that all with a dye job. He wants to be a sympathetic babyface then acts like a bully in matches, telling stories at cross purposes and negating both. So yes, they can get away from strict black and white rules but it's not that easy.

  44. WWE lucks into good stories sometimes (Becky getting her nose broken, Kofimania) and at least they have the good sense to run with those sometimes. I think Kevin Owens and Chris Jericho teaming leading up to the Festival of Friendship was also a well done long term story. As for AEW, you're leaving out the Omega/Page run which includes a nice rivalry with the Bucks, who had their own redemption story in the meantime. I'd put the Best Friends/Santana and Ortiz feud to have been really good, and all the brawls between the Inner Circle and the Elite weren't just Cody. And it's not entirely fair to judge them on the same standard since it's a company in its first year of operation which happens to be in, let's say, interesting times. Yeah, the big angles involved the big stars, you cracked the code on that one, and I'll give you there have been some stop and start angles (or just stop) but I think you're underselling some of the undercard angles. Hell, Brandon Cutler and Peter Avalon had a pretty good thing going on Dark for months. If that's not your kind of wrestling I get it, at least they're trying even at that level.
