  1. No one hate-watches WWE, it's worse - it's hope-watching. Hope they push your guy, hope they don't fuck up so and so on the main roster, hope they don't punish someone for getting over without permission, hope the right guys go over, hope Vince doesn't get bored with your favorite, hope the creative gets better, hope the finishes make sense...

  3. Oh man. Dropping "Matt" from "Matt Riddle" because they don't want people searching for "Matt Riddle" and seeing what he may have done instead of just, you know, taking him off of TV. And then finally following through with making wrestlers drop their additional revenue streams. Fuck WWE. Fuck Vince McMahon. He's a dumb, out of touch, despicable old man.

  4. In the Plague Times, I have a whole lot of time to spend watching pro wrestling. I watch New Japan. I binged on the G1, and loved it. I watch AEW. I have time to keep up with BTE, skim Dark and follow some of their other assorted web content. All of that helps me enjoy Dynamite and the PPVs even more, and it helps the various story lines make more sense. I just love AEW and New Japan. It makes me happy to watch their stuff. There's also an endless amount of stuff to watch online, and there are some excellent curated lists on this very site such as the Wrestling Machines, Blood Sucking Freaks, and Clubberin' threads. There is more good stuff out there from current NOAH, All Japan, DDT etc etc... French Catch, '89 All Japan, various indies... a bottomless cornucopia of classic matches... even with my Covid-mandated extra free time, I can't possibly keep up with it all. You want self-righteous? How about this: Why, oh why, does anyone still bother watching WWE? Troll-style booking, asinine stories, that unbearably manic in-house editing style, and the knowledge that you are supporting that absolute soulless monster Vince McMahon? There are SO MANY far better options. Even though Bryan Danielson still works there, I can't even be bothered to hate watch current WWE. I will check out the very very very occasional YouTube clip (such as the El Gran Gordo thing) if a friend specifically recommends it. I'll enjoy a classic WWF match or two on YouTube or dailymotion from time to time if I get the itch. You couldn't pay me to sit through an entire hour of their current programming. Not even RumbleMania season can draw me back in any more. I also sincerely believe I am much happier for it.

  6. How many people here have stopped watching WWE altogether? Stopped subscribing to the network? I'm curious. Deleting Facebook has done me wonders mentally, and I'm sure not watching WWE anymore has helped as well. That sounds self-righteous, I know. It is true, though.

  9. Outside of reading the reviews here and in the Observer, as well as the occasional highlight on YT, I have no interest in WWE. It's been the same old, same old for far too long -- main-event scene loaded with aging part-timers, generally bad storylines, a glut of wrestlers on both brands with nothing to do, titles that are meaningless, etc. I cringe every time the WWE opts to remove a wrestler's first name from their intros or go to the "soap opera name generator" to re-christen a wrestler. Honestly, the only real successes at the moment could be Roman and the Hurt Business, and that's probably because their work is being scripted "outside the bubble" so to say. I've watched AEW pretty much from the beginning? Is it perfect? Of course not, there is no "perfect" wrestling promotion. It's made its fair share of mistakes. But AEW has given wrestling a shot in the arm. The in-ring product is different (it's not "generic WWE" -- you get a little bit of everything on each show). Wrestlers, announcers, referees, etc., seem motivated and enthused about being there and giving a flip. The former WWE personalities there have rejuvenated (Moxley) or re-invented (Jericho) themselves. They are willing to take risks, whether it be Elite-Inner Circle in the football stadium, Jericho and MJF singing showtunes, etc. They are giving opportunities to wrestlers who were either castoffs or potential "NXT lifers" and they, for the most part, are delivering. During my lunch break, I watched the third Avalon-Cutler match. This was great, and I was into the match from start to finish. Both gave it their all and put on a heck of a match. And that's the thing -- I always got a kick watching 80s/early 90s WWF house shows and seeing two perennial jobbers having a match (I was all in for Iron Mike Sharpe vs. SD Jones). That was their reward for making the main eventers look good -- a chance to have their own showcase matches. And Avalon-Cutler was Iron Mike-SD multiplied by 50. AEW made you care about Cutler, Avalon and Leva Bates, even though none of them could win a match. And as time wore on, the fans were hoping at least one could win and were excited to see them try and break their losing streaks. Imagine that -- a group of enhancement talents arguably had one of the best feuds of the year, and it's because AEW wants you to care about every single wrestler and personality on its roster, and those three wrestlers want you to care about them by putting on the best matches they can. We haven't seen that in the WWE in more than 20 years. Same thing goes with Impact and NWA. Every wrestler and personality on their rosters get opportunities to shine and try to win interest of the fans. And both companies are willing to take risks to help their talent get the shine (Wrestle House is a good example). That wouldn't happen in today's WWE. Thanks to good scouting and hard work, AEW, Impact and NWA have found "diamonds in the rough" that have won over many. We praise and get excited watching the likes of Ricky Starks, Jordynne Grace, Orange Cassidy, Best Friends and Thunder Rosa. All three promotions can do a match or storyline with an "old fogey" and pull it off without looking stupid (Rock n Roll Express, Tully Blanchard, Mike Jackson). There's a lot of originality, and that's something I enjoy seeing. With WWE, just reading the results gives me a headache -- Orton is the headliner AGAIN? Nia Jax has sent Lana through a table every week for six weeks? Enough already!

  10. I'll say this right now, Vince McMahon makes me sick, but there is pretty much no fucking way on this earth I will unsubscribe to the WWE Network, due to the older stuff it contains now and in the future. Now, I could find a way to watch French Catch or AEW on TNT, but I still would probably not give this up. I've got more than 30 years of my life riding on this bullshit, and it still gives me a special feeling in my tummy. The main roster may be pretty much dead to me, but for a wrestling fan from Finland the deal of WWE Network is simply too good to pass up, and this is how I feel about this issue. And I've made it clear before that I'm not on social media. This is the only place I frequent in. Everyone should GTFO Facebook and go to Niko's Discord!

  11. I cancelled the network last may (day 1 subscriber) and never even think about renewing. For awhile I would dvr raw and smackdown and read the spoilers to see if there was anything good but I stopped that a very long time ago. I still read most of the spoilers though just to have an idea of what’s going on. There’s no way I could name all the champions off the top of my head.

  12. I drove Tracy Smothers from the Cleveland airport to PA for the Steel City Wrestling title tournament. We stopped at my apartment, and his small college (Carson-Newman) was actually playing football on ESPN at the time. We drove to Bradford, and all the way, he kept saying, "It's all good, Jeff." He was just so happy to be driving to a wrestling show on a Friday instead of working an office job. Nineteen years later, Eric Bischoff dropped out as my announce partner for the main event of the New World Rising Internet PPV. Who took his place? Tracy Smothers. What did he say? "It's all good, Jeff."

  16. Because I enjoy it and in the past, have liked coming here to talk about it. But I don't want or need the self-important, holier than thou attitude that comes from doing that around here. Being called dumb, a sheep, and sometimes worse. If you or others find no pleasure in it, that's fine. I'm not here to convince you otherwise. I wish the same courtesy was extended in reverse.

  20. hard to argue that there are not people here that appear to hate watch WWE, given the vitriolic posts with every news story or TV thread. (Not that they don’t have valid criticisms, of course, but that’s a tangential issue.)

  22. I anticipate the classic content each month way more than I should. Some months such as Prime Time Wrestling, ECW Super shows, WCW TV have been incredible. I've been cool with the WWF Superstars also. But the Velocity, Confidential, has been meh especially with so much more that could and should be added. Having said that I anxiously await the November upload and pray for something good.

  23. Exactly. To be frank, Chuck Taylor does not have a great (or even a good) body by pro wrestling's unrealistic (but also understandable) standards. Joey Janela, either. Hell, Eddie F'n Kingston also doesn't. Who gives a crap? They all - particularly Kingston - bring other, valuable, stuff to the table. It's pro wrestling, not bodybuilding.

  27. I unsubscribed from the Network, but Mondays is one of the nights I'll play Valorant. I have a dual monitor setup and since I spend plenty of time dead, I'll usually have YouTube or YouTube TV on my other monitor. Since it's Monday, sometimes I'll turn on Raw until I'm like, "what the fuck is this bullshit?!" and then I'll watch woodworking videos on YouTube.

  30. Nobody should be clearing Paige to wrestle again. She broke her neck twice. If she returns to the ring, there's a legitimate chance that her head will literally fall off in the middle of a match.

  31. Oh by the way, I really need AEW to do a 20-man elimination tag team match with all the teams. So we're talking something like Young Bucks (Captains), Private Party, Jurassic Express, Best Friends and SCU vs FTR (Captains), Lucha Bros, Proud and Powerful, The Butcher and the Blade and Dark Order.

  36. Regarding a wrestler AEW should be signing for their women's division: Not sure what her visa or travel status is, but whenever things are all clear, lock her the frell up to a major contract ASAP. Back in the 00s, I was a big fan of Matt Sydal. Loved his matches in ROH. At the same time, guy is 37 and not a spring chicken anymore. He's not like a young plucky high-flying baby-ace you can build a division around right now. Considering that Eddie Kingston isn't even ranked and is fighting for the AEW World title soon, you needed to give him a strong win over an experienced veteran, and Sydal happened to fit the bill. Sydal getting destroyed by Kingston right now doesn't really hurt his reputation or name value beyond what it already was when he started doing some shots in AEW.

  38. I was cheering so hard for Henry in that match and legitimately surprised he won. But the next night on RAW we got one of those insane wwe logic things. Cena came out to issue an open challenge for anyone that wanted a shot at his new title. Henry comes out to accept the challenge. Whoever the authority figure was comes out and says you have to earn title shots, the belt isn't on the line, blah blah etc. Whatever, can make a mini program if you wanted. Instead Cena just wins iirc, but post match Henry gives him a beat down until Ryback runs in. Shocking swerve, Ryback lays out Cena and... Is booked in a title match with Cena for the next ppv. In WWE logic, the guy that won at WrestleMania and respectfully accepted an open challenge hasn't earned a title shot, but the guy who lost and then sucker punched the champion is number one contender.

  39. like many others, i'm a fan of the WCW C-shows. i've been watching some from '95 recently. Obviously 95% of the matches are gimmes, but, once in a great while, they put on one of the "Sharpe vs Jones" matches.... and i'm transfixed. holy shit. who's going to win between Bobby Starr and Eddie Jackie? I HAVE NO IDEA! i have GOT to see this one. i like to think there's some kind of "jobber hierarchy" and these guys are fighting to move up their own rankings.

  44. I’m just pleased Spider-Verse got here. It felt like it would, and it is easily the best super hero movie made this decade to me. But I was worried after the giant Marvel drop there were just too many anti-Superhero movie folks for it to break this high. But top 10 is a pretty incredible achievement for an animated super hero movie, even if it was the best animated movie of the decade.
