  1. I didn't see the PPV yet. Miz and Morrison have been a snooze. But The Miz is maybe second only to Jericho in finding ways to get back into the mix of things after dipping down to the mid-card for a little bit. Not everyone can be in the main event all of the time. But knowing how to keep yourself interesting when you have to move down a level for a while is one of the most important skills a wrestler can have. He's invaluable to the WWE. He really is. It really is ridiculous how many guys he's put to the most over they ever were in their careers. He's one of the best promo guys in wrestling history. I don't think that's hyperbole at all. He does an (ugh) awesome job at mixing in the supposed real-life issues with storytelling that leads to an actual match. He's not an upper echelon in-ring guy, but he plays a cheap-shot heel character perfectly. He definitely doesn't look out of place when in the ring with the best of the best. It's funny. One of CM Punk's main issues when he quit WWE was that he wasn't going to get a WM main event match and took petty snipes at how The Miz had one against Cena. The Miz has lapped CM Punk's WWE career several times over by this point. Plus, Miz is maybe the most unlikely person to ever get to where he's at in wrestling. He went from a Real World refuge and truly terrible when he first started to one of the most well-rounded wrestlers of his generation. All-in on a Miz main event push, as long as he's a heel. Miz's one weakness is that he's absolutely terrible as a face. I think that's the difference between him being a HOF guy (he is) and an inner circle type. He's a step down from Cena or Daniel Bryan or now Roman Reigns. But he's still better than 95% of everyone else who has ever been in a WWE ring.

  2. There was some “best US wrestler of the 2000’s” discussion in another thread recently with agreement that Bryan and Styles are the obvious picks. My contentious statement is...how’s it not Cena? I get Bryan/Styles on pure volume of great matches, and I get that Cena didn’t draw all the WWE money, “the brand” did, but in my opinion this top 5 tops or matches any other candidate’s resume: - Bryan Summerlam - Brock Extreme Rules - Punk MITB - Umaga RR - Michaels Raw or Styles Summerslam Take that tippy toppy work and then add in that he was the top guy, merch seller, etc and I don’t see how he isn’t at least in the discussion.

  4. Hell, I still am. For fuck's sake, the guy is so generous he threw away the last year or so of his career to reteam with his buddy just to make sure Vince didn't give Morrison the Curt Hawkins treatment. He deserves a reward...

  8. Yikes. Talk about a bad hot take. Name one Miz match that was as good as Punk vs Cena at Money In The Bank. The Miz is near the top of list of the most bland boring characters in a company full of them. And his ring work is even more bland. He's had almost no character progression in 10 years now. He's the poster boy for why today's WWE is ice cold. Punk was over with live crowds. Punk could work. Punk could talk. Punk had an aura. Miz is great at outside media. He's a pretty good promo when he's allowed to talk for himself (The Bryan stuff). But he's not good in the ring at all and he has ZERO aura. Could you imagine Iron Sheik vs Hogan being on top in 1994? Or Andre vs Hogan on top in 1997? Yikes. Can we rename The Thunderdome to The Hamster Wheel? Fits current WWE much better. Because they put these guys on a hamster wheel where no one progresses or gets hot and we end up in the same place over and over again. Case in point, Survivor Series this year is in the exact same building on the same exact date where Miz cashed in on Orton the first time. Riveting.

  11. More details, from the official announcement: "During autumn of this year, the first 4 wrestlers of this group will be announced, who will be called to revolutionize the AAA lineup. On the one hand, we will have the technical wrestlers: Aracno and Leyenda Americana and, on the other hand, we will have the tough wrestlers: Terror Púrpura and Venenoide." My español is a little rusty, but it looks like it's going to be luchador versions of Spider-Man; Captain America; Venom; and a large, erect penis.

  13. CM Punk is rolling into WrestleMania as WWE Champion after what was probably the most financially/creatively successful year of his career. His reward is a feature match against Chris Jericho, who has returned from a sojourn that including a stint on Dancing with the Stars and being a talking head on a lot of nostalgia VH1 shows like I Love The 90's. Jericho is in the lighted jacket, JeriTroll phase of his career. As such, he's decided to make Punk's life a living hell by making him the subject of a Filter song. (Or depending on how old you are, Harry Chapin.) So, I should note that Punk ran into Johnny Ace backstage who's enjoying his team's victory. And to screw with Punk, he makes it a DQ Rule Waived for the championship match. However, count outs are still allowed, in a bit that would annoy me later on in the match. So it's weird, they start out super slow, and it's after a few minutes that Jericho's plan is revealed. He's basically going to troll Punk into getting DQ'ed and lose the title that way. Jericho forgets that Punk is from Chicago, a city that is basically a troll on everyone else. Just look at the casserole they dare to call "pizza." Second half of the match is when Jericho decides he's actually got to win this match and needs to put in actual effort. So they go pretty balls to the wall, including a fucking sweet counter of a super-huracanrana into the Walls. Eventually, Jericho gets too aggressive and gets put into the Anaconda Vice. Jericho manages to break it once, but once it's in a second time, Punk squeezes the fuck out of Y2J, and makes him tap like a Canadian Gregory Hines. In a sweet bit of trolling retribution, Jericho's very upset at having tapped out and sitting in the corner. Punk sees him there, and then goes to pose for the crowd *in the corner Jericho's in*. Very cute. Punk would hold on to the title until the following January, when some idiot named Dwayne beat him. Jericho wouldn't get another main event program for a while after this feud ended and would end up dancing with another opponent next year. --- Brodus Clay is out to call his mother and... the only reason I mention this is because of the WrestleMania debut of Naomi. As soon as I actually saw her, I checked out. Life is too short (and I was too tired) to watch Brodus fucking Clay pretend to be a dinosaur or whatever. If I wanted to see that I'll turn on Fox News! (OOH...Political!) End of Day 86.

  14. that would've been awesome though Psycho Reactionary Bob Backlund's one man war against the New Generation & Bret would play even better against HBK and the Proto-Attitude Era, and the Cross Face Chicken Wing was a superbly protected Great Equalizer.

  15. Even if Otis lost the cash in at least he had the shot. The fact that you have a ppv built around MITB and Otis wins the main event only to lose the case speaks volumes. If you didn't have WWE Network why would you buy the MITB in the future knowing the winner could be screwed out of the reward? It's one of the stupidest moves WWE has done all year. Also Miz? Why him? He's in a tag team now. At least Tucker and Otis were sent to different brands. Speaking of stupid decisions, lets build up a heel stable, only to have them dominated in every match they have been in. Sounds 2020 to me.

  16. Roman/Jey isn't about moves or technique. It's about the family saga built around simple brutality. Not having live fans helps the feud because they're great trash talkers. It ramps up the personal dilemma that much more. Their cursing fit the moment. Were some of the beats repeated from their CoC match? Yeah, but they amped up the viciousness. Using the strap was a great touch, something different without stepping on the next two HIAC matches that were more weapon-heavy. They used it perfectly, with whipping and submissions. It's the best story being told in WWE. If wrestling is a soap opera on testosterone, Roman-Jey hit on all cylinders. Watching Roman descend into becoming a sociopath who has even a veteran in Heyman shaking in fear is incredible. Having the Usos quit and throw in the towel for each other was tremendous. Bringing Afa and Sika in to crown Roman was the icing on the cake. For me, it all clicked.

  20. If the brands were combined Roman Reigns would be the champion and all the other discussion would be surrounding the I.C. title. McIntyre had a solid run but him, Orton and The Miz are not really in The Big Dog's league right now. I think that's my issue. They are trying to tell me these people are world title material at a time when Roman is on the same event and it's night and day.

  28. You know what, he's right...The way Cam Newton dresses is what we should be focused on. People are in such a rush to tell on themselves. If you watched that game today, and the only criticism you could come up with was how Cam Newton dressed on the way to the game, you are terrible at your job. Cam was bad, and you could have put used all that energy talking about what he didn't do well on the field. Except, you want to talk about how he dresses. Alright, just don't expect me to take you seriously as a human being.

  31. Brandi's value is her connection to Cody. They have chemistry together and she provides Cody with something to fight for and something to protect. She plays well into that and can generate actually sympathy in that instance. We saw that in the whipping angle and the Dark Order attack. Her without Cody has been universally terrible and nonsensical. The Nightmare Collective was never cool. Awesome Kong was obviously broken down and the scalping gimmick never went anywhere. She was in Andre the Giant territory not being able to get up or down. Mel never even got a little over and still isn't. Luther pointed to his own head for months and added nothing to the group. They were never good or interesting. Stop it. So to AEW's credit, they dropped the unit on Dark where most people wouldn't see it. Brandi was just with Dustin and QT now. Okay, fine because Cody had three other managers, two best friends and a dog to take him to the ring so I could see why that space was full. So then they add Allie to the group as the obvious turncoat except she never turns on them for months and months until, she just walks out on stage in her old gear. Clearly whatever this was supposed to be got dropped because everyone realized it was dumb. But lest we forget, before Allie can "turn", BRANDI started to turn heel by being obsessed with her own action figure. That also got dropped eventually with no pay off because they have great long term booking. But before that, Brandi tries to save Cody only to get choked out by Ana Jay to have her own section of the Dark Order feud. Which is where she should actually be in a supporting role in Cody feuds. They've since blown off the Cody portion of the feud (where Brandi took out like 6 guys at once because I hate my life) but are evidently continuing the Brandi portion based off her cooking and drinking show. She's also trying to court Red Velvet into her 'group' and I don't know why she needs a group at all as she has chemistry with no one other than Cody. It's been three dropped angles, one angle continuing after the main event players are out of the feud and between 3-4 turns of indeterminate origin. It's shit.

  33. The story was when he came clean, his wife made him tell everything and she snitched on Lex (and I think Rick Steiner) and his wife told the other wives about the affairs. So that's the only time Sting did the turn on Luger first.
