  1. Honestly, in kitchen work, it's harder to find a non-user than a user. Just before I overdosed last year, I was hiding in the bathroom doing all sorts of hard drugs before smoking sausages for hours and then closing the bar down with all the regular customers. I think that the nature of this type of work just draws this type of behavior. Doesn't help that a lot of us are felons and that's the only real job we can get. Add in long hours and the fact that our days are a series of high stress situations during rushes and then huge down periods and then another rush, rinse, wash, repeat and drugs and alcohol become a common way to blow off steam.

  2. It’s weird seeing people complain about Page being positioned in the inaugural title match. ”AEW needs to make their own stars and not rely on WWE cast-offs... but I don’t mean *this* guy!”

  3. When I moved to Colorado in 2006, I swore "No more blow." Then I got a job DJing at a Strip Club so that went out the window. The toilet lids at that place saw a lot of action. And to bring it back to wrestling, I didn't announce in typical strip club voice. I growled and gave promos and used a lot of Dusty/ Superstar/ Rude, etc. lines. " She looks good and moves even better, she makes a burlap sack look like a cashmere sweater...make some noise for the sexy Deja!" might have been said more than once.

  4. For the uninitiated I recommend reading Kitchen Confidential by the late, great Anthony Bourdain (RIP my friend). It'll fill in any blanks you have. Re: Your friend Eddie, some of us are just lucky I guess -- one of my best friends was a stone junkie for years (of anything, but particularly dope) yet has worked at a bar now for two years and stayed clean the whole time, while also heading a recovery group. I don't know how it's possible. His ex ODing probably had a lot to do with it but still.

  8. Looks like a work, honestly. The guy sells the attack with this slow floating underwater sell like a jobber on WWF Wrestling Challenge would. Looked cool none the less, but WCW’s fake fan attacks looked more believable.

  12. I'm of the belief you should once in a while tinker with the formulas of match structure/finish, just to keep fans on their toes, and to let them know that the things they expect aren't always guaranteed. Okada winning with a roll-up is great, as would be ending a match before a hot tag a couple times a year. Fans would probably be upset in the short-term, but it would pay off in the long-term.

  18. I know I've said it before, but I still can't believe they gave up on EC3 that quick. A guy built like that who can talk, with a modern Million Dollar Man gimmick? Seems like someone Vince would have pushed way too hard way too fast.

  20. I'm the minority, but I loved his Impact run and thought he was great his whole time there. And that's why it's depressing that he has been so utterly wasted ever since. I feel similar about EC3

  23. There are quite a few wrestling hotbeds / tourist destinations where they could theoretically run TV 3-4 times a year and draw strong. Off the top of my head, Chicago, NYC/Philly/DC, North Carolina/JCP region, New Orleans/Mid South region, Vegas, and of course Toronto. Plus various spots in Florida, Cali and Texas. And then fill in the blank dates and build underserved markets.

  24. Ehhhhh... If you’re a big company, and not a small regional company like ECW, or ROH, then if you’re going to run your first show in New York it better be at the Garden. That’s a statement right there.

  27. Yes. I loved the Super Inframan as a child. Yes. I love it even to this very day. Yes. Princess Dragon-Mom and She-Demon are super hot and sport the best 1970's platform boots ever not worn by hookers. Oh and: "For success it is essential you have THUNDERBALL FISTS~!" "I CAN HAVE SUCH A THING~?"

  28. This is kind of random but I was watching tv with my wife the other day and there was a newish Chinese movie playing. I had no idea what was happening, because the subtitles weren't in English (I live in Myanmar), but noticed Chin Kar Lok. Completely blew my mind that my wife knew he was. I didn't believe her at first, but then she threw out, 'Yeah, he has a brother who makes movies too." Mind blown because she is not big on Chinese movies, or action movies, and Chin Ka Lok didn't have that many notable roles in bigger movies( I can only think of DM2 off the top of my head). Zero idea what she would know Chin Siu-Ho from(Fist of Legend?), or how she knew they were brothers. Anyway, to bring it back on topic, seeing him reminded me of Operation Scorpio / Scorpion King. That probably would have been my pick had the contest had I thought of it at the time. Won Jin's role/performance in it pretty much carried an otherwise lackluster film, and I've always been a sucker for the Chin bros.

  29. I get that, but it isn't like they have so much history there that they have to pigeon-hole themselves by going back to a mid-sized arena out in the sticks. They've already clearly outgrown it.

  30. To add, I worked there for seven years, full time for four months and part time for the rest of the time. As a wrestling fan, it didn't take me long to realize I was in the most similar business I'd ever get to. Selling fantasy as reality to marks we all hated for the most part? In a low rent part of show biz ? I learned all that shit on Saturday morning TV.

  33. This is Eric Moreland. His salary this season was $17k and played 5 games. Thanks to Toronto's victory, he's about to get a 2029% bonus. (All players on the winning roster earn a $345k bonus.)

  34. For concerts, they'll barricade off the infield and put plastic "flooring" down where the seats/fans will be. I have seen the stage itself fuck up some grass before but that doesn't happen often.. This is a Wrigley concert in Chicago, for example:

  35. I'm reminded of the time UFC moved UFC 232 to Los Angeles due to Jon Jones drug testing shenanigans at the last minute, and Meltzer complained that they should've run the event in two cities because "Vince McMahon did it once before in the 1980s."

  39. I could see ticket sales for live events/TV following a similar pattern to NXT, on a larger scale, where the tickets are hot for their first time or two around, but interest drops slightly as the novelty wears off.

  40. I don't think anyone wants to tie themselves to ROH long term right now if they don't have to. MLW and AEW are clearly better options. I feel bad for Lethal, but he'd get a good deal somewhere if ROH went under.

  41. I'll be damned - there actually is a story to Miracle Fighters. I was totally ready to have my pick get torn to shreds but glad you got some enjoyment out of it. It's one that always stuck me with me because of the absurdity of it all. The sequels are more of the same with diminishing returns but I've always got a kick of Yuen Shun-yee's roles in the films.

  42. Thought this was a pretty great episode that went by quick with lots happening and feuds/angles progressing. Opening tag was a lot of fun, Sabu was on fire for awhile there. Havok being back is a solid addition and I love the trio of her and Su with Mitchell. Desi Hit Squad vs The Deaners has been a pretty entertaining low card tag feud. Great win for Madison Rayne who looked excellent here as she has this whole return run, glad to see her kept strong and in the mix. Nice to see Sandman for a couple minutes. Another very good main event which has been the case for the last several. Elgin's had all pretty awesome matches so far. Dig the overall look/atmosphere of the setup for the NY shows here.
