  1. Sid rules. Said it once, will say it again until all the motherfuckers understand. Any one of us could stab a coworker, and we'd get fired for it. Sid stabbed a coworker and got fired for it. Then they hired him back and made him world champion. Twice. While the guy he stabbed still worked for the company. All hail King Sid

  3. Is there any possibility that the opening match of the first AEW show could be Jushin Liger vs Brian Pillman Jr?

  5. RE - Joe v Necro, at that time I was lurking around the CZWfans board and the hype for that match in the lead up was incredible. Ian Rotten was at the peak of his powers in terms of Indie dream booking. I don’t think I’ve experienced a more fun few years watching indie wrestling than those around 03-06. You had great Mike Burns booked CZW cards with the PWG and IWS guys, the CZW v RoH feud was shortly afterwards, IWA was holding insane TPI and Strong Style tournaments, PWG was in its infancy. Even KOTDM 03 holds a special place in my heart. There’s some really great stuff during that whole period. One of the weirdest things to come from this match is that Necro changed up his style and done more straight up brawling and ended up in RoH. Around the same time Ian started putting on shoot style technical matches with Hero. Some crazy stuff. There is some great stuff buried in the sands of time from around that time. GCW seems to be the spiritual successor to that whole era.

  6. There's a solid argument to be made that Cobra Commander is the least odious person in this.

  7. Sid’s in his own category, man. Everyone loves Sid! On the 20-80 baseball scale dude had an 80 look and 80 charisma. Sure he had 20 wrestling skills but no one cares about that. One of the best squash match wrestlers ever. I seem to recall in the earlier days of ye olde IWC that was a lot of anti-Sid sentiment. These people were idiots.

  8. Extremely well produced video this week, the highlight being Joey Janela’s old school promo complete with props to get a point across. Made me like Janela for the first time. Same with Darby Allin’s piece. Had no idea about him being a skateboarder who filmed himself to get noticed by MTV, and Tony Hawk. Most interesting thing about this video is the fact that there wasn’t much swearing. Which means these look like tests for how they’ll do promos on TNT.

  9. There was a lot of anti-Shawn Michaels sentiment. You'd see little kids wearing his merch and women go crazy for him, but adult men weren't cheering the guy that pranced around like a male stripper. New York is always a smart mark heavy crowd, so there were likely people that knew about Shawn's backstage bullshit. Plus, Sid was just a monster badass and made the fist bump cool.

  16. A lot of the Sid hate from that time period seemed to be more in the in-ring style of the time. One of DVDVR's best qualities that always kept me coming back is: DVDVR seems to be the one wrestling community in the IWC that truly gets that "too much of a good thing makes it bad", and subsequently the corollary of "wait a minute. If we used to get too much of this one good thing, and now it's slowed to a trickle in favor of a more trendy style...then that probably says that the guys still doing this style are probably really good and deserve a second look." Most places, it was usually "aww fuck, ANOTHER hoss? Give us some more X-Division type guys!", and it never quite became "aww hell, ANOTHER Johnny Kickpads guy? Give us a good power wrestler or two!"

  17. They had the best wrestling podcast of all time. I don't care where they go as long as that comes back.

  19. In a revelation I’ve had today. WWE TV has become the new TNA for me. In that I don’t watch it 75% of the time but I enjoy listening to John Pollock’s, or Bryan Alvarez’s continued misery of reviewing it on their respective audio programs.

  20. One of my favourite wrestling themes. I miss that MGS entrance. Felt special when WWF/E returned every two years from 1994-2002.

  21. I can always tell when there has been a sale on them because my mom will stop by and bring me like 10 boxes. I'm not sure where she got the idea that I like that specific cereal (I'm a Raisin Bran, Life or Crispix guy typically) but since that's generally our only positive interaction these days, I don't have the heart to tell her I never eat them. Last year I was living in a 3/4 house/sober living community and would leave them in the community room along with some other groceries for guys who were struggling. Since I've moved, I usually just stock up and go to one of the homeless shelters or soup kitchens in town and drop them off along with anything from work that I can donate.

  23. "Why will no one come and fight me???" I don't know, Aleister. Maybe because you stay locked in a back room instead of going to the ring like everyone else. Just a thought.

  24. Someone who used to work here attempted to stab a coworker and didn't get fired for it. They did leave voluntarily a little while afterwards, but that was an "if I threaten to leave, they'll beg me to stay and then I shall be invulnerable forevermore" ploy that backfired quite spectacularly. The bosses were new and didn't want to admit they'd made a bad hire, so they gave certain twatheads far too much rope. Wasn't as bad as the time the boss walked in on a new trainee in the toilet. It was really embarrassing for everyone, she was shooting up with heroin and forgot to lock the door.

  25. Going to a three matches in the hour format has really helped, in terms of letting us see what the guys can do. Four matches in an hour, even if one was sub three minutes, just felt squeezed, with promos and entrances and 'welcome back to the shows' as well. It's why WoS Wrestling didn't work. RevPro's TV was three matches in an hour and that was great.

  26. That makes more sense. At first I thought it was some schlub having a nap and dreaming about the Four Horsemen.

  27. And you thought current WWE was awful! We should start a fund to make Rippa review new PPVs to fund dyslexia therapy, or housing the homeless. He would come to my house and poison me in my sleep but I'll be damned if I don't love some negative DVDVR. It's just too funny. Actually, Dolfan deserves to balance the karmic scales here and review one...

  29. I am loving the main event for next week's card. How diabolically clever is Selina to put the two guys that have given her so much trouble in a match AGAINST each other in a Falls Count Anywhere / Loser Leaves Town match? I can't believe the book would break Mance and Sami up just after they finally came up with a name for themselves (MID-WEST MEGAPOWERS~!) so we'll see what happens. I'm already calling for the match to be thrown out due to run-In so that both guys can remain on the roster. Low-Ki and Ricky Martinez are going to beat the shit out of each other and I am also looking forward to the Flamita / Rey Horus match. I am totally stoked about Lawlor vs. Fatu in the main event for Kings of Coliseum, but why is Lawlor depending on the Von Erichs for his back-up? Low-Ki, Worlds Biggest Tag Team, and Lucha Brothers are among the short list of enemies so unless CONTRA does some heavy recruiting, they're already heavily outnumbered. Jacob Fatu channeling Bernie Mac (I'LL BUST YO HEAD T'IL THE WHITE MEAT SHOWS~!) was Number One and The Best.

  30. It's great that the team behind the game is paying attention to the negative feedback though it would have been best to just not show anything yet. That or it's like the Sonic movie where somebody actually thought this would be good and got a dose of reality. Either way I hope next time they show it it ends up a lot better. But I'm better off just getting Ultimate Alliance if I want a console Marvel game.

  35. I agree and disagree on this one. I thought it was rather well written. It just also came off as having no idea why Mr. Freeze works and strikes a certain cord with fans. The thing is this isn't a Snyder problem. This is a problem many writers who try to use Freeze have. They either don't grasp or care that what brought him into prominence among modern fans was his story and personality from BTAS. Take away that tragedy and gravitas, and he is kind just another boring ice villain.

  36. I've only revisited Rises once, and it was somewhat better at home with subtitles, but fuck that movie has the worst sound design and editing of any big budget movie I've ever seen, even without getting into that stupid fucking Bane voice. I just rewatched the first two not that long ago actually.
