  1. I can't be the only one who thought you were talking about the Alabama Jr. Heavyweight champion at first, right?

  2. As the DVDVR message board leader, I'm telling you all Miz is a better professional wrestler than CM Punk.

  3. Could say the same about Brian Kendrick or Paul London. I think all of those guys had a hand in changing the landscape in what has become the modern WWE. Without that initial spark from that crop of guys Punk & Bryan could never have changed the business in the way that they did, especially at the top of the card. Punk was lucky in a sense that he had Heyman chewing agents ears off and going to bat for him against the majority that thought he would never amount to shit.

  5. Especially considering you can get in the door at Takeover for less than $15 right now on Stubhub where the cheapest Survivor Series ticket is over $90. The work event that was keeping me from buying tickets just got canceled, so I'm definitely looking into cheap Takeover tickets if for anything to say I was in the building for a Wargames.

  6. Did this Book/Punk story happen around the same time Punk was the self-appointed DVDVR leader? The Miz being a better wrestler than punk is straight up LIEEEES. I think people try and shit on Punk because of his superiority complex, when in all actuality he was really good at his peak. Miz's best work pales in comparison to Punk's series with Joe for example.

  8. Ask him how it felt to know he could have kicked CM Punk's ass, if he only could have been bothered to exchange or actually make an effort. Ask him what it's like to have Dana White describe you as a fucking idiot, and fire you.

  10. Even then, I'd go with the hot take there: I'd argue Evan Bourne was more important to the "rise of the indies" than CM Punk was, even if he was just a midcarder. CM Punk was a comet, he made it from the indies to the main events, he was a once in a generation superstar, like Daniel Bryan. That's just it. They were generational talents, and if Punk/Bryan succeed, that doesn't necessarily mean the indy talents will succeed...and when guys like Scotty Goldman turned around and failed miserably, that would argue that "nope, being an indy name does not necessarily mean you're a surefire star anymore. Maybe Punk/Bryan are just that good." By contrast, the success of Evan Bourne to become a very good midcarder, but never a star, might have done more for indy names, because that success would turn around and say the real message: "WWE isn't just signing people to be main eventers, you know. They need to fill a roster up and down the card, top to bottom, and fill a number of niche spots as well as the main event"...and there, Bourne's success could prove "Wait a minute. Instead of hiring some trainees who aren't very talented and using the failed experiments in the midcard, where no one cares about them...why don't we hire a bunch of really good independent talent, who already have a cult following, and make THEM our midcarders, in the process giving us better midcard matches and assuring that we can ignore the midcard booking [because their fans already are ride or die for them and will cheer them just because they're THIS GUY/THIS GIRL"?

  12. Punk was an all-time great at cutting promos and was absolutely a pioneer for the indy guys in WWE - that said, his ring work has never been as good as it has been made out to be. Overrated is definitely the word for it.

  14. I love NXT more than air itself. But man, how amazingly bad would a mix tape comprised of official Takeover anthems be?

  15. I feel like the people who talk up Bayley having her own Nick show and such have like... not watched her cut a promo at any point over the past couple of years? She's been at best passable on the mic, maybe she was better in NXT but on the main roster this is one of her main weaknesses, not strengths. Cena she is not.

  16. Most exciting event in NJPW's calendar year is about to begin and here are the teams: EVIL & Sanada Taichi & ZSJ Suzuki & Iizuka Killer Elite Squad Hangman Page and Yujiro G.o.D. Best Friends Juice & Finlay Yoshida & Shota Umino Elgin & Cobb Makabe & Henare Ishii & Yano TenCozy Nakanishi & Nagata It looks like it is going to be single block like Jr. Tag League as well so 13 matches for each team. Only actually exciting thing in this tournament is this:

  26. I just need to know all of Rippa's pet peeves and I'll be the new Rippa's Bane of the board. I'm immune for life from any Phil Schneider chicanery due to giving him tons of free matches long ago. Rippa's still primed for my blend of inanity and pathetic puns.

  27. Just a sample of the verbal beatdown that Becky Lynch is putting on "Ronnie" Rousey right now. If they ever have a face to face segment they are going to need a ref stoppage for Rousey

Its not that I didn't know the Queen would give me one it's A) I finally visited the Queen in her court after her missing her every previous time B) I don't doubt this game's ability to dick me over All in all - a productive couple of hours in the Dreaming City as I got a whole bunch of Triumphs, found either my last or next to last cat and got a 600 LL mark

  29. Intentionally throwing trash someone else will have to clean up on the floor just to make a point to as third person who also won't be cleaning it up is kinda dickish. I think Punk was a really great promo and very good wrestler who could've been a great one of he had been a little bit more athletic and coordinated, but whacha gonna do?

  30. It's fun seeing the Alpamare Waterside the few times Cesaro does in WWE:

  31. I miss Claudio Castagnoli with hair, long sideburns, bedazzled suits, and "HEYYYYY". At least on the Halloween edition of SD, he broke out the Alpamare waterslide. If WWE is ever serious about pushing him as face, using the UFO is the way to go. Seeing the Ricola bomb again would be nice. It was the Cesaro bomb in nxt when had a first and last name.

  32. One of my favorite “little things” that NXT does well is the opening intro. In addition to ending with shots of the champions, they seem to constantly update it with little tweaks, like right now towards the end they have a shot of Ciampa with a crutch, followed by Gargano with a crutch, and then a close up of Black’s face seething. It’s the sort of attention to detail that makes the lack of such things on the main roster more frustrating.

  33. Bayley was very popular with children. At least at the NXT shows. There are still little girls that dress like her to this day at the live events.

  34. Bayley should have a deal with Nickelodeon and/or Disney by now. Her ability to get over with young viewers makes her Cena-like in terms of face value. Why they are not milking this is one of the reasons why the product is so stale. They are throwing millions of dollars away and by the time they realize it Bayley will have lost that look.

  37. The silver lining is Nikki is on SD rather than the barren wasteland that is Raw. Nikki being the whistleblower in NXT's biggest summer angle is the perfect send off for her. She's done pretty much everything (besides winning the women's title, but that ship sailed) there is to do in NXT. She's done her time, she's 'bout to get paid.
