  1. I took my nine year old nephew to his first wrestling show at New South in Hartselle. I promised him when he was three I would take him like I did his brother. The show itself was pretty good. But honestly I rather be at home, I hate crowds and have severe anxiety, I was four nerve pills in just to function. But it was still an amazing experience because I got to see wrestling thru the eyes of a child. To Connor (my nephew) everyone was a star. He was angry when the bad guys cheated and jubilant when the good guys won. He was not comparing young guys to hazy memories of the past they could not compare to. He ran up to every wrestler and got his arms signed. Cheeseburger made two fans last night in me and the Con Dog. Connor begged me for a mask so I got it telling him that was his big purchase. But he wanted a shirt from Cheeseburger so much. So I got it and he threw in an 8X10. I saw the current indy wrestlers in a new light. Not these punks trying to usurp my memories. But guys with my old passion who want to make new memories. The whole trip kinda put me in the hole before April even started. But it was all worth it.

  6. I was going down the wiki rabbit hole the other night and got to Bullet Bob Armstrong's. Something tells me that if you were to look up the person who last edited his wiki, you'd see a username that looked something like O.Kru. Either that or wrestling One Man Kru in 2008 was the highlight of Bob's career. And that happened on my birthday no less.

  7. I really hope the PCO vs WALTER match on Mania weekend is a big enough hit that "underappreciated 90s hosses" replaces "flippy British guys who can't sell" as the big indy booking trend. I could really go for an Ice Train dream match indy run.

  8. Breaks my heart to see such a terrible winner like Gino Aurriema lose. Maybe his starters ran out of gas from playing 38 minutes in all those games this season they were winning by 80 points. But hey, they got to pad their stats.

  10. Per Awful Announcing, Loyola reaching the Final Four means that the Missouri Valley Conference will be receiving $8.5 million, which the NCAA will dole out over the next six years. Over that stretch, that's $140,000 per year, per team. That's more than they get annually from their TV deal with ESPN.

  16. I've always enjoyed Kobashi the least of the Four Corners of Heaven. Some of it is the fact that I just love the other three so much, and some of it is that he's way too big and musclebound to make me believe that he's a scrappy underdog type, but it's mainly that he's a perfect example of an early main-event "moves" guy and I've never dug that. Once he started winning singles matches his moveset became big, messy and distracting. Proto-Meltzerism? It's the same beef I have with Manami Toyota or to a lesser extent Hayabusa. It should be noted I prefer NOAH champ Kobashi to orange Kobashi, even if I may not prefer the matches.

  17. But wasn't that everyone in the roster? 3 people got ""over"" in the pre-reboot 205: Neville, Tozawa and Gulak. Neville got his fair share of challengers, but Tozawa had a pretty mediocre feud with Kendrick and a very short feud with Gulak. Gulak the poor bastard, never won any feud ever, and became the highlight of some very dark times.

  18. The next page I went to was The Studd Stable's wiki entry which led me to Jerry Stubbs'. Apparently he took credit for the Mr. Perfect gimmick as he was known by that moniker in Continental. https://web.archive.org/web/20090221030329/http://www.wormwoodchronicles.com/overtheropes/stubbs/text.html

  20. Yeah, the airplane spin headdrop dealie is the Panic Switch and she calls the modified Lotus Lock the Yellow Fever. And I agree that the hold looks a lot better when applied to an opponent who is face down on the mat and Su wrenches the arm up and back into the grain of the shoulder.

  21. My only complaint about Ready Player One was hearing an american voice coming out of Simon Pegg's face. It was unsettling.

  22. I saw it this afternoon and as someone who really enjoyed the source material and is way too pedantic about book-movie translations I had a similar assessment. The character development and a few key scenes could have been better, but overall it was a really fun movie. The stuff they changed, especially the three quests, all sat well with me and were similarly entertaining.

  23. Ready Player One was outstanding. Really, really fucking good. Exceeded my expectations. I had my doubts with all of the trailers, but Spielberg delivered. Got weepy more than once whenever I'd hear the Back to the Future chimes. Is it different from the book? Yes. Does it deliver on what the spirit of the book is? Absolutely.

  25. I was one proud papa yesterday. My kids' school does nine-week award ceremonies. Basically recognizing academic and personal achievments that kids accomplish every quarter. My kindergartener always gets a bunch of them for her progress in reading and math. Well, they each got a very special one yesterday. My 2nd grader got a "Most Improved" award for all the progress she's made socially. She's very shy and has terrible social anxiety. But, she has really blossomed a lot this year. When she started at the school in October, it was a struggle for her to get anything out without a lot of prompting. But, now she participates regulary in class discussions and always has a lot to say. My Kindergartener got her usual truckload, but also got what they call a "Character Award" (basically for being a good person) and was the only one in her grade to get it.

  27. Also, I've run out of things to say about the run Roddy has had the last six weeks or so (televised times) Between NXT and 205 Live, I think he's currently had more really good to great tv/ppv matches than anyone else in the world the last two months, if you let me count those shows as TV.

  30. Nagata and Nakanshi are part of old stable called team Japan along with Fujita and Kendo. Kai grew up with FMW and did some deathmatches while back. But his chest was already pelted by AJPW guys and Go years ago. I'm not sure Zeus will ever win the TC, he is basically Gotoh/Yone of AJPW. Anyway in news, Mutoh surgery is a sucess and he will come back to the ring.

  32. It was great! Also, it’s the first time I really noticed the films portray Ichi’s blindness as a disability. I mean, he still kills everyone and saves the day, but there are several times when he’s actually hindered or disadvantaged by his vision. Usually, he’s super-abled.

  36. Sure. I haven't seen enough Kobashi so I voted the last option. But from what I heard I'm not surprised that many find him better than Bryan.

  37. Doomsday Clock is such a weird beast. There's about fifty times more care put into it than anything I've ever read from Johns before (except for maybe Blackest Night). You get the sense that every word on every panel was meticulously thought about and it's true with the art as well. The word I'd use is "craft." You almost get the sense that he knows the teacher is watching or something. That said, I'm not sure I'd call it worthwhile. Or necessary. Or enjoyable. It's impeccable but almost because they know how misguided it is. The central conceit is so broken that all the craft in the world basically gives you a gold plated toilet in the end. But it's a gold plated toilet where a Rorscach and Saturn Girl escape from Arkham together. So I mean, what the hell, right?

  38. The amount of complaining from pro players that are going to have to learn how to actually tackle really emphasises how much work there still is to do at youth football levels as far as proper skill training goes.

  41. I remember talking to my cousin, who used to bounce in nightclubs and has been in or around as many fights as anyone you'd ever meet. I remember someone claimed they were going to break someone's jaw, and I just looked at him and asked, "How many broken jaws have you witnessed?" He looked at me, thought it over for a while, and said, "one." He then told me about the time when he was in a huge brawl at a club and someone fell down and someone stepped on his jaw and snapped it in half. I say that to say this...it takes a lot to break a person's jaw. If that dude broke her jaw, put him under the jail.
