  1. I can see it now. A trickle of blood on his forehead. Referee Drake Younger stops 9 guys from doing highspots while he slowly puts on his latex gloves. The crowd chanting Fight Forever! Just like the good ol days.

  3. Lars Sullivan does Muso for a finish, and as earth's last Takeshi Rikio fan I just want to let it be known that I appreciate that.

  8. Ember getting the title three shows too late makes me wonder if Delirious is booking the NXT women's division now. NXT champion Roderick Strong is probably my worst case scenario, so I expect it to happen. I realize it's a long time to hold a pointless grudge but he still strikes me as unsafe in the ring and I still haven't forgiven him for nearly ending Doi's career. Almas is far more interesting than he is, in the ring and in character.

  9. They didn't even need to- the Brooklyn match was total annihilation to Ember Moon as a threat. If Ember won in Brooklyn? She's a worthy champion and good choice. If Ember lost dirty like in Orlando? She's the uncrowned REAL champion, and this is just righting a wrong. If Ember lost clean, but DIDN'T HIT THE ECLIPSE in the match? Even THEN she's a worthwhile champion, because the whole story of the match was "Asuka knows Ember Moon's Eclipse is the deadliest move in NXT, and if Ember hits the Eclipse we have a new NXT Women's Champ and the streak is over." Ember lost. Clean. And hit the Eclipse. And it was kicked out of. That was total annihilation, and puts one of the biggest asterisks in wrestling history on this title reign of "Yeah, you won- but you didn't go through Asuka to do it." (By contrast, even the other two established women wouldn't have that problem: Nikki Cross took Asuka to the limit with Asuka only barely getting up at 9 and dropping at 11 in the Last Woman Standing match, and if Peyton Royce won, "Yeah, but you didn't go through Asuka" would be a FEATURE, not a bug.)

  10. Asuka presenting the belt to Ember was a perfect way to remind everyone of that.

  11. Undecided how I felt about the show. Lars/KO was really fun with both guys coming out looking like beasts. Black/Dream was decent, but had at least two moments where a guy with a striking gimmick kicked his opponent in the head and had it no-sold. Women's match was fine, but Ember was the worst choice of winner. Nigel highlighting all the times she'd come up short previously just screamed "our champion only has the belt because Asuka went to the big league" Drew/Almas was MotN. Really great showing from both guys. Really convincing nearfall. Loved the spot where Vega failed to down Drew with a rana, he puts her on the apron like a gentleman then catches an Almas tope with a big forearm to the face. Really excited to see where they go with Almas as champion. Main Event was really fun. So many nutso spots. Thought the 3 Sanity members were the stars of the show, real Dain showcase, but everyone in the match played their role. Cole was the least impressive, but I'm not sure if that was because they were playing up that he was an opportunistic coward or because he's just not very interesting

  12. If Almas was winning the title anyway, Vega's mini-Frankensteiner should have been the finish. That was probably the highlight of the whole show.

  13. I loved how TNA would do things like run AJ vs Sting and compare it to the the 88 Flair/Sting match with Sting now being in the veteran role and it being a chance for AJ to establish himself like Sting did. Except AJ was already their defending world champion. Like he must have had ten different "he just established himself as a top guy" moments in TNA.

  15. -There were two nearly inseparable friends I knew in high school: one was very much a jam-band bro, the other a Juggalo. So I guess what I’m saying is Death Juice makes all the sense in the world to me. A tiny bit surprised they won, but Juice is over enough to make it feel immediately appropriate. -Goto getting the clean fall over MiSu means he’s challenging for the NEVER title at the Dome, doesn’t it? Put Shibata in his corner—and let him cut off some interference with just one kick—and you’ve got a nice moment, I suppose. -Chaos approved!

  18. So I assume that all of the belts that Lambert showed was stuff that Cornette let him borrow. Although I do know that Dan is a huge wrestling fan. I did love the idea that fans are stupid because they didn't know that Rip Hawk was Ric Flair tag partner in 1974. Most of the people at that show barely watched wrestling much less wrestling from the 70's That CRASH training ring has to be top 5 in the dirtiest disease ridden things in many years. Ian Rotten looks at that ring and gets nervous. And god only knows what Konnan does with strippers in that ring

  19. Gotta love that's it's completely impossible that Finn just likes Triple H, and that he clearly must be 1. kissing the boss's ass, and 2. passive aggressively throwing shade at Adam Cole. Jesus.

  21. Ohno/Lars was good fun. Dream/Black was great, easily the best either has looked in NXT. I only wish Dream won. Women's 4-way was fun. Drew/Alamas took a while to really get my interest, but I was digging it a good deal by the end. So happy Almas won. Wasn't expecting that at all. I hope he keeps the belt until WM time where he loses it to Gargano who is then murdered by a returning Ciampa. Thought War Games was pretty good. Even the shitty camera work didn't ruin the match for me though fuck could it have been so much better. Thought the big men were the MVPs with Dain in particular getting a great showcase in. Wolfe was insane for the super German suplex through the tables. Felt sorry for him with all that damn blood. I liked Rikio.

  22. Poor Matt Riddle, for missing out on this. Poor Michael Elgin, for having to team with the dude who is clearly going to take his spot.

  23. Bulls stole one from Charlotte last night to get their coveted THIRD WIN OF THE SEASON. Kemba Walker scored 47. Kris Dunn, the last game, was named a starter. He answered that by scoring 3 points on 1-11 shooting. For the Charlotte game, he was coming off the bench again annnnnnd decided to 10-16 with 7 assists. Please play like that forever. He had some killer crossovers last night. Here's a highlight that shows Kemba's last shot to FOR THE WIN. He beats two guys but THE FINNISHER COMES THROUGH.

  25. Catching up on Impact and trying to figure how long ago was the Lucha Underground tapings because Taya there looks like half of what she is now. I don't mean that in a fat way. I mean that in a she could probably squat and bench more than the entire X division way Eventually we are going to get to the point where 80% of their TV shows will just be NOAH, AAA, and CRASH matches which isn't necessarily a bad thing

  30. That story is FANTASTIC! 'Hey, do those chops. The people of BARNESVILLE, PENNSYLVANIA are crazy for Giant Baba,' and Okada doesn't blink and says, 'Okay!' It takes a very wonderful person to accept that proposition without a massive inkcloud of mistrust.

  42. I think a lot of what made Hela work was the resolution of Thor and Loki's father issues. Both of them had complicated relationships with Odin, so when it comes out that he wasn't always the man they thought he was it acts as a bit of a shock. Hela was the daughter Odin wanted when he was younger. Thor and Loki are the sons he wanted as he grew older. It's very much a conflict between these two periods of Odin's, and in turn Asgard's history. Which is why the ending works as well as it does. Hela wants to return Asgard to the bad old days of bloodshed and conquest and doesn't care what the people of Asgard want or need. She sees the throne as the thing. Thor cares about the people and understands that they're the part of Asgard that matters and so burns the history of conquest and starts something new for them. Given that these movies are so much about the relationships between Thor and Loki as well as Thor and Odin, Hela and the arc she provides acts as a great counterpoint here. Not every villain needs to have protagonist level development to be a success.
