  1. Watched Wrestling with Shadows for the first time in forever the other day. Bret's wife reading Hunter the riot act remains one of the more underrated wrestling moments.

  6. Bennett is a good utility player. He wrestles basic WWE style, can cut a good promo and him and Maria have been doing this act for seven years or so. Honestly, WWE is the best fit for him of all the companies he's been out. The dude was built for nine minute TV matches with a commercial break. His journey is hilarious that he's managed to be a pushed act in ROH, New Japan, TNA and now WWE (sans developmental) based on basically his wife being hot. It's pretty inspiring. The WWE gets it, which is why he's promoted as being whipped.

  7. Really enjoyed the 6 man tag. Trevor and Octagoncito have good chemistry. I'm not sure why Borash keeps saying Demus is from AAA when he's never been there as far as I know. The triple threat and Drago/Sammy match were good too. It was sad to see Sammy do a 630 to crickets. Impact is on an upswing right now with the talent they have. Just need to get the titles off Alberto and back on Lashley.

  13. In all honesty I feel way closer to this Spider-Man because I grew with Bendis' 10 year run on Ultimate Spidey. Raimi's movies have this old timey feel to them, like old comics. OLD because you guys are OLD!

  16. I think Weidman deserves full credit for both. In the second fight, Weidman had a pretty dominant first round on par if not better with what Chael was able to do with Anderson. Now, you can question Weidman's victory over Vitor because Vitor was a completely different fighter when he returned from that hiatus to finally get that title shot. He wasn't facing a fighter who had any sort of chance against himself outside of the first 30-45 seconds.

  18. So I stumbled upon a Netflix movie called Russell Madness. It's about a dog who becomes a pro-wrestler with the help of his trainer who is a talking monkey. John Ratzenburger and Fred Willard are in it. John Morrison is also in it.

  22. We get a very special RAW-SD crossover event next week with the 10 bell treatment, Mark Henry reading poetry, a whole lot of people crying, and lots of variants of Mi$$ You $hane signs in the crowd. SD's team beats RAW's team at Survivor Series after Bryan sneaks in after a ref bump to stop an Angle Slam with a running knee. AJ Styles for the win. One of Shane's kids is World Champ and the others are Tag champs at the end of WM 40something. But the company still winds up in the hands of Vince's daughter and his doofus son-in-law.

  23. I LOVED Dijak in ROH and he just felt like someone who would be perfect for and so much better in WWE. I think the PC/NXT will be great for smoothing out some of the rough edges, telling him what to do, when to do it and, more importantly, what not to do (His last ROH match built around him repeatedly trying to get his opponent to shake his hand was one of the dumbest concepts I've seen in pro wrestling in a while).

  24. Awesome triple threat w/ Sydal/Ki/Fantasma with some creative spots, loved the finish. Sienna looked great as usual. Opener and main events were both pretty good but short. Guevara's 630 was cool.

  25. The big question about the Bullet Club possibly splitting up... WHICH SIDE IS CHASE OWENS ON?! It really is awesome to see so many guys elevate their game the last year or two. EVIL was such a generic dude in ROH and early on in New Japan. He's now positioned to take on the Ishii role in that he's hard as nails, can believably beat anybody in the promotion, has great matches, but is lacking the look of what New Japan has been running with in terms of top, top guys the last 10 or so years. SANADA was a journeyman who was fine but starting with last year's G1 upset over Tanahashi, he's shown that he can be a guy that New Japan builds around long term. He's not there yet, but he's 29 and improving at a rapid pace. Look out. Juice Robinson to me was your typical WWE midcarder. Really good character work, decent if not forgettable in the ring. Now he's married the character work with high end in-ring performances and personality. He's so sympathetic and lovable. He's another guy that could be a fringe star. Hiromu made himself a star in Mexico through willingness to do the craziest of shit. Back in Japan, he's got one of the best characters in wrestling as the crazy Japanese punk from pretty much all of the mangas (he even talks like these characters from animes) and with the addition of DARYL, Hiromu is one of the best acts in the world. Big Mike was a guy I barely tolerated from his ROH and PWG days and is now a super gaijin hoss. Not quite Dr. Death level of awesomeness but he's capable and just needs that nudge in terms of booking. I would love it if he adopted the homicidal backdrop driver but I'm sure Tanahashi/Okada/Omega/Naito would rather not take that. I know he does the Burning Hammer as an ultra death move these days, so is there really that much of a difference? Naito was my least favourite New Japan major player before going heel and now look at him. I don't think I've ever seen a wrestler turn the switch like that. Just remarkable. And now you look at the guys coming out of the dojo and it really boggles the mind. Kawato looked so fucking good today. Kitamura is a beast. Green as turtle shit but he's going to be special. Ohka is the oldest 25 year old I've ever seen but he's a really solid foil for Kitamura. Henare before the injury was super impressive. I can't wait for him to return to action. Jay White has turned into a very good western style indie worker who will do big things in New Japan on his return. Umino looks really good for somebody who's just starting out. I was concerned a few years back about New Japan's long-term health once Tanahashi started to decline. Looks pretty okay now.

  26. I dunno, Korderas thought it was funny. He kinda seems like the kind of guy who wouldn't sue even if Vince hurt him, as long as his medical bills were covered. He tells a story about WWE in Japan where they didn't have enough hotel rooms for the refs/ring crew so he had to stay at this tiny little hotel that didn't even have room in the room for his luggage and how Shane McMahon found out and got them rooms with everyone else and Korderas is thankful for Shane for fixing it, and never complains about WWE and the hotel screwing up the bookings in the first place.

  29. Sometimes I think he's just a bit...obtuse. That he expects so much of everyone that he tends to forget the little things, like just how little experience Strowman had at that point because he expects perfection every time. And then I read this story from Jim Korderas' autobiography

  36. 900K is more than I'd get if I got fired. I know in comparisons to other sports it isn't fair, but in comparison to real jobs its pretty normal. Its a capitalist country, most people that are no longer useful to the company they work for get fired and may get a few weeks severance if they are lucky. What else would an NFL team do. Now I'd understand if the Player's Union went for guaranteed contracts, but Carolina did what was best for their business. Now the fact people willingly play a sport they are almost guaranteed to get a life impacting injury in is another story, but Michael Oher made 33 million in his career so I doubt money is his concern right now if you asked him.

  39. Night 2 thoughts: - Kojima vs. Juice: Holy shit, this was AMAZING. I can't stop raving about how much Juice has improved, and aside from the IC title match vs. Naito, this was his best work to date. Also, how about Kojima finding the time machine and bringing it at 2000s level? ****1/4 - BIG MIKE vs. Tama Tonga: I like the story they're telling with Tama Tonga seeking respect. This didn't really click for me, though. **1/2 - EVIL vs. SANADA: My choice for Match of the Night. I loved the stable-mates heeling it up on each other, and each guy bringing something very different to the table. I've really enjoyed EVIL in a few singles matches now so far this year, between this and the two against Tanahashi from the spring. As for SANADA, this was the first time I've been blown away by him. I love @Oyaji's comparison of EVIL to Ishii and SANADA as the flashy star, because that's exactly what it looked like. SANADA as "It." ****1/2 - Yano vs. Okada: Great fun. Yano is, to me, the perfect comedy character. He provides that different presence needed on cards with so much intensity, but at the same time, can believable win big matches. Fun stuff, and I'm glad Okada didn't need the Rainmaker. *** - Kenny vs. Suzuki: Suzuki is the single greatest heel in wrestling right now, period. The only other person in the running with the same sort of thoroughly loathsome presence is Bobby Roode. If they're serious about an Omega face push after Long Beach, this was the perfect first opponent to put Kenny in there with. ****1/4 I loved seeing Fale come in and destroy TAKA and El Desperado. I'm quite excited to see what direction the Bullet Club split goes; my original assumption was it would just be Kenny and The Bucks, with Cody leading the remaining BC. But after this show, with Fale's save getting a huge reaction and Tama Tonga working quasi-face against Big Mike, I'm starting to wonder if they want split evenly into two entirely different groups.

  42. Remember when Ontkean tried to emote after Josie died? Boy, that was rough. I'd also much prefer Harry over Frank, but I'm not going to pretend Ontkean was a good actor. He played a simple-minded small town sheriff well. When pushed beyond his limitations, it was embarrassing. Granted, I've never seen Forster have to lose his shit in anything. He's always very low key.
