  7. Man, I wish I was around for that. That must have been the coolest. I remember one time Bill Banks was running trivia in there and I won like a t-shirt, but it was like 97 or 98 so my mom lost her mind at the suggestion that I give my real name and address to a stranger on the internet

  8. Scott was 46, actually. And he was a really great guy. As I said in the book thread, he was a very close friend and mentor. He helped me get a stringer gig for the paper he worked at. I learned a lot about writing in a very short amount of time. Tonight, we were planning to go to the Reality of Wrestling tapings with his son and another of my coworkers. We'll be still be taking his son. It's going to be a little bittersweet. Thanks for all the kind words about Scott. I know his family has been taking comfort in how much he was admired by so many people.

  9. We should also remember that the flag code says the flag should never be used as an articule of clothing. So let's ask all those who have an issue with Gabby what they think of the women at the Budweiser tent at the 4th of July NASCAR race wearing American flag string bikinis or the Duck Dynasty guy who wears an American flag bandana.

  28. I read Titan Sinking recently and it covered this. I believe it's ok to quote a small portion of the book, right?(if not, mods please remove) "In the weeks leading up to the Wrestlemania showdown, an increasingly concerned Bigelow confided in Taylor that he didn't want to be embarrassed and told him that it would be in his best interests to take his training for the match seriously. Taylor had no intention of looking foolish either and he agreed, spedning hours at a time being put through the paces and learning the bare minimum required to put together a semi-decent match. He worked with Bigelow on desiging spots, listening intently to the veteran wrestler as he was told what to do and how to do it. Bigelow was more confident in their ability to have a reasonable match when it came to the day of the showdown, but before the bout he still took Taylor to one side and warned him that if he screwed up or tried to make him look bad, he was going to forcibly call an audible(change the finish) while they were in the ring." "Bigelow knew the pace needed to slow further in order for Taylor to survive the encounter without losing his wind. Even though Taylor was a world class athlete and had been at the top of his profession, Bigelow was well aware from talking to other ex-footballers turned fulltime wrestlers that bein in ring shape was very different to any other form of conditioning. "Let's take it easy," he whispered, before turning Taylor over into a double leg hook submission hold known as the Boston Crab." From that, it sounds like he worked hard at it, but it doesn't go into any detail into how long he trained.

  29. Whoever beats Asuka becomes a made person, which is why I don't think Bayley should win. She's already got on foot out the door to the main roster so she doesn't need the rub. Asuka should totally go dark and evil and destroy Bayley. Let her rule over the women's division until someone new can de-throne her.

  31. Zayn/Neville was a highly anticipated match too. They had mostly been kept apart, looked better in the ring than everyone else in 2014 NXT, had lots of drama surrounding whether or not one of them would turn, plus Sami finally "winning the big one." Also, I disagree with the idea that Nakamura needs to be more serious. He's already shown he can go in the ring to the point where people buy him as top guy/legit threat. His goofy stoner charisma and laid back charm is what sets him way apart from everyone on the roster, no reason to change that if the crowds are hot for it. It's weird to see people suggest that someone who is successful with an atypical WWE main event personality needs to be more like every other WWE main eventer.

  37. Tajiri is goddamned amazing. Like a lot of guys are not the same wrestler they were going in ten years. Tajiri is better than he was 20 years in. Dude did better chain wrestling than ZSJ and made it look legit. I am so fucking glad he came back eventhough I think the wrong guy won, but Metallik is meh, I guess. As for Cedric Alexander...hold on...I got to take a minute. That is what the fuck I am talking about. And I've been following him since he came in with Caprice Coleman as a tag team. I've been high on Cedric since his Rodrick Strong feud and I always wanted him to get the appreciation he fucking deserved. Then I saw his match against AJ Styles at PWX and then his Triple Threat match with Andrew Everett and Trevor Lee. I was fucking hooked and kept wondering, "How isn't this guy not bigger in the indy scene?" Then ROH decided that they like Adam Page more and put that generic motherfucker over Cedric. They buried Cedric for two years. Yeah, he was an awesome heel, but they treated him like TNA did AJ Styles everytime he was in a faction. Fans kept mistaking him with ACH and I am like how? I get the lighting at ROH shows makes black people look like Mr. Po Po getting a tan, but how? Cedric is just as good as AJ Styles and got none of the attention. He was the Daniel Bryan of the Indies and it was bullshit. The indies prided themselves on giving guys that never fit the WWE mold opportunities, but they sure as shit let Cedric down. Especially ROH who keeps putting over old veterans who no one wants to see anymore for newer fresher talent. Like how the fuck is the convoluted stupid spring board and handspring finisher guy with the Cumberland Gap in his mouth still champion? Fuck Delirous and whoever else has been booking ROH or these bullshit Indy promotions for the past few years. You missed out! Okay, I am done being petty. This match was amazing. Typical Ibushi, but Cedric sold like a champ. There is one thing Cedric learned after years of shit indy booking is how to make losing look fucking good. The master of the moral victory. That facial expressions after the brainbuster, and headkick combo was A1. You can see the desperation in his face after every kick out. He looked absolutely fucking broken. I honestly wanted him to hit the Lumbar Check only for Ibushi to recoil out the ring somehow(giving the logical excuse on how he would kick out) just to see the despair on Cedric's face. He isn't goofy with his selling. He isn't over the top. It was great story telling in a 15 minute match and that is all anyone can ever ask for. At the beginning of the match, they were marginally into Cedric, but Cedric came off as the fiery underdog babyface that you cannot not get behind. You could have went into this match not knowing a goddamn thing about Cedric, but you were pulling for him. Cutting 22 pounds was the best thing he has ever done in his career. I seriously hope to see him in WWE TV again or at least on promotions that will treat him like the star he always deserved to be treated like. I am so fucking proud of this dude. Great match from both. This is my MoTY candidate only behind Kevin Owens vs Sami Zayn because as much as I stan for Cedric, I am not fucking crazy. That was some good shit right there.

  38. Ciampa surprised me. Like I never expected him to have that in him. I have seen a few of his matches before NXT and he was not that impressive. He was just a physical American Puro guy and that was cool. I never thought he had the capacity to tell the story that he told in that ring. Like we see so many straight monsters and thugs in wrestling, I don't recall one who has the sympathy for an opponent that is his friend and best man. Like he remembered that Gargano is not just some opponent that he can just tear into. That is his friend. And I never thought Ciampa had the subtlety in him to pull that off. Bravo. Great match. Gallagher is cool. Much more appreciated than ZSJ. He did not completely bury that other guy and it was a good exhibition. Someone mentioned why people drag ZSJ, but uphold TJP and Gallagher when they pretty much embody the same style. TJP's entire character revolves around looking as technical as possible and as convoluted as possible because his character is a show off. He is not about being meticulous or efficient as he is about looking cool and looking good. This works against him because, as shown in his match, opponents simply escape his holds when he takes too much time and they don't let him go overboard with transitions. He is telling a story in that ring. Gallagher is sporty and every hold has a point. He does not meaninglessly transition between holds for the sake of doing so. He only does so when he lost position. Every hold is earned. ZSJ just doesn't do either. Of all the matches in the first round, his was the one that was a straight up squash match which made his opponent look straight up incompetent. Even his finishing hold was a useless transition because ZSJ already had the dude beat and just added that additional flourish because "it looks cool." But seriously fuck ZSJ.
